CPU
>CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums
>Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming
>R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-9700k/8700k - If you have a $2000+ budget and pairing with a 2080 or better
>R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

RAM
>Always choose at least a 2 stick kit
>8GB - Bare minimum/Light desktop use.
>16GB - Standard amount
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula

Graphics cards
>RTX 2000 cards; cheap models usually low yield processor. Aim for factory OC versions for best performance
>use your due diligence with cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans. They may be cheap, but won't get high boost clocks like better models
1080p
>RX 570/580/1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options
1080p@144hz
>Vega 56/1070ti best value, Free/G-sync monitor highly recommended
1440p@60-75hz
>Vega/1070ti/1080/2070
1440p@100+hz
>1080ti/2080
4K
>Upscale from 1620-1800p. Or 2080Ti, but awful value
OpenCL use
>Vega 64

Storage
>Backup before using StoreMi
>Consider a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Display
>Always consider FreeSync w/ AMD cards

Y-you okay user?

My case is 10 years old.
with things like GPU's and CPU coolers getting fucking massive, I now have real trouble fitting everything inside it
I had to physically cut out a big hole into the HDD dock to put in my 1070ti
I'm getting tired of this shit.
Want a new case. Been so long I have no idea what to get.
NZXT pieces look very nice but I'm not sure about the window (PC is under the desk so I don't ogle it anyway)
Can I get some pointers?

Fractal design r5

so are va panels still shit for gaming?
see alot of va gaming monitors right now.

thanks

How is this build? Looking to completely overhaul my battlestation. Monitors aren't final. In fact I might not end up replacing mine quite yet. Res and panels are fine, they're just mismatched and I hate it. Might drop to two ultrawides just for the shit of it but find it easier to just use different monitors at the moment than tile shit. Can imagine it being a nightmare with games, even with windowed mode. In any case, total budget for monitors is around $1500 if anyone has recommendations. I can't drop below three monitors unless ultrawides are actually good for multitasking. Don't bully my CPU cooler, he's a good boy. I will not reduce the number of fans either. Thing is going to sound like a fucking jet taking flight and I will fly on its back to Mordor. RAM is necessary for my workload, and I don't believe the total wattage is accurate. I plan on upgrading the GPU next year anyways, perhaps to dual 2080 tis or whatever the next release is. Might go for Dual Navis if benchmarks are good. Headphones aren't final, but from what I see the pair I have on there are pretty great. pcpartpicker.com/list/CYXbfH

what in the name of fuck...

I'm so fucking mad they completely phased out 5.25" in all cases and there is no goddamn case manufacturer that would bother to put an HDD hot swap bay into at least one of their mATX cases.

What the fuck am I supposed to do with all my hard drives?!

is this a good amount of paste? im fixing my shittops thermal issues and ive only applied paste to cpus with heatspreaders. its arctic mx4

k thanks friendo

If you want something relatively compact that can still hold quite a bit inside, check out NZXT if you like glass sides (H series) or Fractal if you want better options with solid side panels (Define series). I think their designs are cleanest, but some people also like Phanteks and Corsair cases.

>install ltsb
>700ish MB ram usage on the first boot and 27 windows processes
>decide to try ltsc because its been several updates since release

What the fuck Microsoft, do you really hate everyone doesn't you?

Attached: 1542580048533.jpg (491x405, 69K)

why is mini-itx so expensive?

You pay a premium for going small. It is harder to engineer something to be more compact while avoiding problems with airflow among other things.

WHY THE FUCK IS MY R5 2600 SO HOT
WHEN AT LIKE 8% USAGE MY CPU IS 40 CELSIUS
ITS AT 3.4 GHZ

HELP

Attached: 1457653238667.gif (512x288, 1.08M)

its AMD user, they make it hot to remind you of India
dont be racist

buy an optical drive and buy windows legit you fuck
:^)

I have a legit copy of windows i brought from x99 to Z390 and I didn't do anything but sign in to my microsoft account I had used on my other motherboard.
Says it is activated just fine.

maybe you should learn to apply thermal paste?

>>
fucking windows 10 i can´t even greenpost reeeeeeeee

Cooler master mastercase 5

Would if I went for the industrial line. But yeah, I know. I think the Define R6 has soundproofing too, so there's also that. Tempted to go for the Thermaltake Suppressor F51, but it isn't in stock anywhere Then I'd have even more fans.
Christ what a nightmare. Hoping to hell I don't need to stick with Windows 10.

>realize your mobo needs windows 10
PClet here, dont all mobos/computers require an OS of some sort?

Technically your OS is only supposed to be tied to a single motherboard, so if you upgrade your motherboard and CPU, you may need to purchase another operating system.

Generally though windows will activate just fine regardless as said here

Why am I getting static in my headphones? It's only when I use the rear port (the front is fine), only really happens when I load a new web page or scroll through one, and still shows up when I have sound muted. Is it my GPU or PSU?

hipster tax

How do I convince my parents leaving my desktop running for 3 weeks won't cause a fire? Can it catch fire?
The desktop will be running some machine learning programs, but the GPU temperatures peak at 85 Celsius and CPU temperatures at 58 Celsius.
From what I read, fires can be caused by faulty PSUs (mine is EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply) or by dust accumulation.

there are people who never turn their PC off but there is a difference between 3 weeks on idle and 3 week under what seems to be pretty high load
PSU's have a bunch of overload failsafes though

So, I had been thinking it was the RAM that was messed up in my build but it was the SSD all this time. I tried to go through Amazon to get a replacement but those fuckers said to go through Samsung for a replacement. I don't know if I should try again to see if I can get another Amazon agent who will do it or try to call Samsung.

>Can it catch fire?
Highly unlikely but still possible.

>windows on 7200rpm HDD
>game on SATA SSD
vs
>windows on SATA SSD
>game also on SATA SSD

Is there any difference solely in terms of gaming performance? The only thing I can think of is .txt, .ini's, and game saves for some games saving to "My Documents" on the HDD that Windows is on.

You didn't take out the plastic before installing the cooler genius

I have a different idea. Just turn off the case leds and she won’t even know it’s on.

what video game music did they listen to

>windows on 7200rpm HDD
Why would you do that?

YARR YARR

>upgrade to 144hz monitor
>go from sr 3200 to sr 4126 in two weeks in overwatch

why didnt you fags tell me itd be this easy?

Whats a good price on a 1070ti?

I'm scared to try and migrate or clone my Windows installation to another HDD, or SSD in this case. I have bad luck with drives. Is cloning an HDD with Windows 10 to an SSD really that simple? I don't want to have to re-activate Windows or have my settings all fucked up.

Why are amd gpu prices so ridiculous? Didn’t the crypto phase settle down?

i got a strix for 360

How long ago? I just got a 144hz monitor and I need a gpu to back it. Is it worth buying used for that price?

late nov
>used
no

All gpu prices are ridiculous?

>Overwatch

A brand new 1070ti is going for ~$380 right now.

Attached: 1499057102069.jpg (485x602, 199K)

Should I get a sound card if I want to record music or is the one built into my motherboard good enough? I'm going to use an audio interface if that helps you guys at all.

Thanks I should've bought during black friday Ill search for a brand new one for under 400$

>2018
>sound cards

Attached: 1515749774674.jpg (600x520, 31K)

the interface IS the sound card.

There's literally nothing wrong with that

I think you do want a sound card so that you can overdub and hear yourself through the earphones over the track in real time. Otherwise, I’ve always ran into latency with onboard sound.

Not him but what plastic? I didnt remove any plastic but my thermals are ok

There is a plastic covering on the heatsinks generally. If you don't remove it, your CPU idles very hot.

Okay thanks for the help anons I've realized I'm retarded.

Use Core Temp or HwInfo64, speccy is wrong.

>40 CELSIUS

Motherfucker that's not hot at all for that CPU.

>Order new rig on Cyber Monday
>Everything is supposed to have arrived by this past Tuesday so don't pay attention to when/where my packages are
>Ram doesn't arrive, check package status, says it's still in California even though I live on the east coast
>Have to call them to make them try to find it
>"We'll call you back in 24-28 hours"
>Still haven't been called by today so forced to call them back
>"Oh sorry sir. Looks like we've lost your shit"
>Have to call Newegg and inform them my package has been lost
>"Ok we're going to file a claim. It's going to take 5-10 business days to do that and then, if you're approved, take 3-5 business days to get it delivered."
>tfw the biggest, heaviest, most bulky item was delivered first(the case) but I'm looking at like 5 weeks to get my fucking ram

Speaking of Direct Contact heatpipe coolers...

I'm going to be using an Arctic Freezer for my 2600X, and the instructions say to put a thin line on the flat part of the heatpipes? Is that really the best way to do it, or is the pea on the CPU's heatspreader still the best/not much different?

Blz respond, I have a x470 Taichi which should have a decent sound setup. I don't want to have to buy a USB sound card to get rid of this static

I've use Acronis several times with no issues.

HELP
my disk(pic) died and I want to upgrade it
what connection type is this?
ATAPI | SAS | Serial ATA | MSATA | PCI-E | NVMe | M.2 2280 | U.2 ????

Attached: 1544842891518.jpg (2592x1456, 1.43M)

I just use a credit card or any plastic card and spread that shit evenly on the CPU then put on the heatsink. I'm not leaving bald spots by just dumping some blot or strip anywhere.

Have you tried disabling microphone boost in your sound settings? Yes, I'm being serious.

Anyone know what the lowest power single board "pc" is for watching movies and surfing the internet? The Raspberry Pi seems just a tad underpowered, but it is only like 5v 2.5a 12.5watts. I have a netbook that runs at 36watts, but it is so fucking old that WinXP on it can barely run youtube and takes forever to load any webpage with flash.

I just need something that can play movies and do internet which choking on itself and is as low watts needed as possible. Due to reasons. I have $100 to spend.

I'm looking at this list,
all3dp.com/1/single-board-computer-raspberry-pi-alternative/
But, I'm not sure what is best.

Attached: 1544644377749.jpg (600x315, 75K)

Dude, it's a stinking average usual SATA3 drive, the power and data plugs just happen to be designed to be on the same connection in that particular laptop.

sorry I'm noob, I'm shopping and have these options

SATA is short for serial ATA. That's what you want.

thank you

Okay, I'm ready to give up and take this shit to a professional in town. I thought it was the RAM so I RMA'd that and got new RAM yesterday. Then I thought it might have been the SSD, so I pulled that out and installed Windows to the HDD but I'm still getting crashes. So, I suppose that leaves either the motherboard, CPU, GPU and PSU as there possibly being something wrong with. Also, I finally caught it happening a little while ago, the PC restarted out of the blue, no BSOD, nothing. Just doing nothing and then restart. That's not even taking into account the BSOD I'm still also having. Some of them were "Critical process died". "Unexpected kernel mode trap", "page fault in non paged area". I can't remember all of them.

Can anyone look at my build and tell if they can think of ANYTHING that could be causing this?

pcpartpicker.com/list/BxZJ29

Thank god I stayed away from poozen so I dont have to deal with all this mess

This smells like a very shitty driver, not a hardware fault.

Make sure you're running the latest UEFI version. If you're still facing issues, ditch Windows and install the latest version of Ubuntu or something.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/BxZJ29
550W seems a little on the low side, IMHO. But your BSOD messages don't all seem like they could be related, so IDK.

>someone is having issues with windows
>must be ryzen
wowee i sure hope i can be as smart as you one day

stop fucking poluting these threads with unhelpful shit when people actually want help you fucking mong.

s'lied, stoo much

>he clean installed windows twice
>must be windows fault
nice try poojeet, I like how everyone itt that has issues with their pc's either running hot or not working at all have ryzen. And then we have shills like you turning a blind eye and say "you are just unlucky bro!"

google.com/search?q=windows 10 instablity

I suppose every result from that search result will be Ryzen related then? Windows is garbage tier software. So much so that even their own devs admited. So much so that MIcrosoft has to port their shit to Linux to stay relevant.

> everyone itt that has issues with their pc's either running hot or not working at all have ryzen

>best selling cpus in all western markets for over 6 months.
>pc gaming is growing more popular bringing in more noobs
gee, i wonder if these two facts have anything to do with more people asking for help are using ryzen

as a sidenote, 40C is not running hot. its a normal operating temperature unless you live in antartica.

fuck off, you tard.

exposed dies needs either more paste or the spread technique
your pic is plenty and will cover all the die with ease

>550W seems a little on the low side
Only because you burgers would put a fucking 750W power supply in anything without even thinking about it twice.

That PC draws no less than 370 watts from the wall socket with the monitor.

Ive been really out of touch with everything this past year and I just realized all the cryptos have crashed pretty hard. Are gpu prices finally going to return to normal now that the minerfags are dead?

Look I get that you're trying to make up for your hilariously small penis but can we stop it with the internecine shit-flinging and have productive discussions?

Would that be a driver that Windows downloaded automatically or one that I had installed myself? Should I try to do a clean install disconnected from the network and then install the chip set and graphics card drivers via USB?

Are you talking about the BIOS? I had tried to update it via some software that the manufacturer provided to update it inside Windows but I don't know if it actually did anything. I may have to see if I can find a flash drive laying around here somewhere. As for the power supply, when I was picking out parts, I ran it by some people here and they said 550W was fine. How large of a power supply would you have suggested I had used? As for Ubuntu, I may have to try it eventually and see if it works.

>Would that be a driver that Windows downloaded automatically or one that I had installed myself?
Could be either. I could suggest to read through the BSOD dump files using nirsoft's bluescreenview, trying to find common DLL files across BSODs that could point to the driver, but those errors you got are so fucking diverse, and your PC is shitting itself so abruptly and unexpectedly, you'll never be able to pinpoint the culprit by doing that, because I bet it will list half your DLL library most likely starting with your network. And don't believe ridiculous power supply suggestions, 550W are more than enough for that computer.

fuck
correction: no *more* than

Yeah, I wouldn't trust OS based utlities for flash updating your UEFI. You should be able to just download the latest ROM from the manufacturer's website, stick it on a flash drive and update it from a utility in your current UEFI.

Ubuntu should help diagnose if your problem is Windows or actual hardware.

I mean, your PSU shouldn't be causing the issue, it just doesn't give you a whole lot of headroom for future expansion/overclocking. I personally wouldn't put less than 650W on a gaming machine.
For future reference, here's the best PSU calculator out there: outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
