Oh is THAT what OP's getting at? I can't say I get that much use out of my GPU, but I didn't buy top of the line and certainly needed SOME modern gpu. My Ryzen gets occasional use with all the poorly-optimized garbage I'm running at the same time, couple potentially have gone cheaper.

I can definitely feel the difference between my work computer and home computer. Though a lot of that might just be the SSD. Though my project files are on the HDD, there's probably a lot of caching on the SSD-side.

Have you OC'd yet? You can get pretty far just using the stock cooler.

I bought an 8 core cpu to browse Jow Forums and watch Twich.

I actually have a good cooler on my 1700X. Ryzen gen1 just doesn't OC well enough to warrant interrupting the stock boost settings. I was able to get 3.8GHz on all cores but it required stupid voltage. Where as with under volting, I can maintain stock boost easy with temps staying sub 59C even at 100% load.

I still prefer vim, the ease of downloading the spf13 distribution and having something that just works across both Winblows and Lincucks with shared swap files and configurations is really nice. I don't care to spend the time configuring emacs.

Sonarr, Radarr, Nzbget, Plex, PS2 emulation. I don't really play any modern games despite having a gtx 1070.

My PC is a glorified media server.

Ah, I don't really care about running too hot to be honest, I've found that even with fairly hefty voltages and high temps by the time the processing unit dies it's generally worth upgrading, so right now I'm clocked at 3.9GHz, on my 1600, generally around the 75c range when running at full load, but it seems to handle it just fine.
