CPU
>CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums
>Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming
>R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-9700k/8700k - If you have a $2000+ budget and pairing with a 2080 or better
>R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

RAM
>Always choose at least a 2 stick kit
>8GB - Bare minimum/Light desktop use.
>16GB - Standard amount
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula

Graphics cards
>RTX 2000 cards; cheap models usually low yield processor. Aim for factory OC versions for best performance
>use your due diligence with cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans. They may be cheap, but won't get high boost clocks like better models
1080p
>RX 570/580/1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options

just went from 8gb of RAM to 16gb of RAM

what now?

EVGA 2070 black edition or $50 more and get the XC ultra?
i heard the black edition have a gimped chip

Open more browser tabs.

Return it since you dont need it.

The XC Ultra is a slightly stronger chip, but note that it will take up more space than the black edition (3 brackets vs 2) and that it does NOT come with a DVI output while the black edition does.

best 2080 cards? any 2080 cards to avoid?

Can I get a rating on my first build?

Tired of laptop gaming. Saved up $3k of wageslave bucks. This is the first time I’ve done this stuff, so I’m a complete newfag to pcbg (have spent a week studying the basics, but I’m pretty shit still).

Looking at future 4K, but sticking to 2k right now because I’m poor and can’t afford a monitor over $1,000. PC will be primarily for gaming, but I’ll also be using Premiere, Photoshop, and Autodesk Maya.

Lads I've got a 2600x and a 1070 SC, how much power do I need for this? Am I going to limit myself with a 550 W PSU? Will it fuck with my ability to overclock my rig?

I want to upgrade my 1600 to a 9700k but I keep hearing that I'm going to regret my decision so much when Zen 2 releases. Is there any truth to this? Is Zen 2 actually set to be the revolutionary 7nm 5ghz processor that the shills claim it's going to be?

Attached: 1544669406655.png (640x480, 347K)

Looks like you're spending far too much on the GPU for what you're doing. Can probably spend 400 less and still run 4k fine.

Im looking to make a server for my home, would I need a graphics card of any kind and if so what is the cheapest one I can get that will meet requirements for streaming video or hosting small game servers like minecraft or garrys mod?

Attached: iridium_2018-12-15_17-15-59.png (436x198, 16K)

What gtx or rtx would you recommend?

good idea. already got 100 sankakucomplex tabs open

>Can probably spend 400 less and still run 4k fine.
No, not really. A 2080 will barely get you 60 FPS in most modern AAA games at 4k resolution. He is getting a G-Sync monitor, which is a good idea given he will have trouble getting higher FPS as things stand. If you want 4k with good frame rates, you are looking at a 1080 TI or 2080/TI.

I think so but I don't know. I'd like it if it did. I hope you don't call me a shill (but I guess I don't care that much).

>1440p@60-75hz
>Vega/1070ti/1080/2070

Should this be combined with an i5, 2600, or i7? Thinking about starting a build and I'd want to get a solid 60FPS on 1440 resolution for the next 2-3 years with overclocking.

Check out benchmarks like this one.

Are there any good brands for 1080ti and 2080ti? I understand the market is inflated right now, so should I stay with a 2080 and upgrade to ti later?

2700X

Best monitor size for 2K?

2080 is pretty much a slightly better 1080ti. It's mostly fine for 60fps 4K. Just get a G-Sync monitor and you're fine.

27 inches imo

Any suggestions?

cryorig H7 for 36$ or 2 fan variant for $44?
also if I get the 2 fan version will it use 1 header or 2?

2 fan
youll connect the two fans via a splitter to the cpu fan header next to the cpu

so just 1 fan header? and does it come with the splitter?

yes just 1 fan header, and it should come with a splitter, ive used 2 separate air coolers and both have come with one

What should I do for surge protection? My house got struck by lightning once and I lost all my appliances. I don’t want that shit happening again.

surge protector strip obviously
get a UPS, pretty sure any decent one also acts as a surge protector as well

They sell surge protection power bars

What’s a UPS?

Is it safe to assume that every AMD motherboard can support ECC? I read somewhere that only intel limits that on their chipsets

universal power supply, its a battery that you connect to your PC, and you connect said battery to the wall. if your power goes out, the UPS will power the computer so that you can safely shut down your computer, or complete the update, etc, since your computer getting turned off while its updating or while your hard drive is writing is very unsafe and can fuck your computer up. Some of them have built in surge protectors

MPG27CQ is what i have

What is 2k? 1080p? It depends on viewing distance.
rgb.com/sites/default/files/articles/viewingdistanceresolutioncomparison.jpg

So can anyone recommend a 1440p 144hz IPS /VA monitor. Preferably curved with freesync. And non-Korean.
I know its asking a lot. But surely this exists SOMEWHERE.

2k is 1440p

Help a retard out please
>sk hynix 8gb ram ddr4 2400mhz
Are these trustworthy? They're quite cheap compared to everything else with less mhz.

theres no IPS versions of 1440p 144hz freesync curved, there IS an IPS version non curved of that monitor
if you want curved, the best options are the Samsung - C32HG70 or the smaller C27HG70

it really isn't.

2k is 2048x1080, which is realllllly fuckin close to 1920x1080.

2k is DCI film standard.

anything that says 2k for 1440p is just marketing bs to take advantage of the similarity sounding to 4k.

The 4k DCI film standard is 4096x2160, whereas consumer 4k is 3840x2160, just how 2k DCI is 2048x1080, consumer 2k is 1920x1080, not 2560x1440p.

i responded here

god i wish that were me

Is there any problem with this build?

>poozen

>Not getting the meshify C

>getting a meme case that can't fit high-end parts

I read it's quite a bit louder because of the open design and I don't like how the top doesn't come with a lid option, just the shitty looking mesh held down by some cheap glued magnets. Open top seems a meme according to most temperature tests.

>cant fit high end parts
>fits the NHD15 and 2080ti strix just fine
um...Jow Forums???

The only thing it can't fit is a bunch of HDDs and optical drives, if that's your thing.

If you buy taller RAM and want a high end air cooler you'll be fucked with the Meshify.

Yeah, got 32GB RAM instead of only 16. Fell for the 8GB is enough meme.
That won't happen again. I should be fine for the next 6 years.

How tall is this RAM you speak of? The case can fit even the most high end coolers without a problem. The maximum height for an air cooler in that case is 172mm, which means it can fit the biggest Noctua and Be Quiet fans on the market.

G.Skill Trident Z sticks are 44mm tall

unless you do heavy video editing and/or streaming that was quite unnecesary, anyways you should be fine for at least a decade with those 32gb

you can raise the fan on the cooler like 10mm easily and itll seat any ram

Which would make it too tall for the Meshify.

>feet
>inches
fuck off

Is it smart to go for the Dark Base 900 Pro rev.2 for the quick charge and qi charging?

>just wait

BUILT FOR BWC

how much would it sucks to pair a 570 8gb with an i5 8400? theres a cheap used one where i live i cant pay for 1080ti

Yeah, it's a bit much, but I don't plan to upgrade again in the next 5-6 years.

It's one month. I'm sure you can wait that long.

>one month
lmao, fantasy

So I 've got it narrowed down to MSI Optix MPG27CQ and Samsung C27HG70.

They both seem about the same except and for the same price. Same specs and whatnot.

The CES is literally in a month.

no, its absolutely not one month

>CES is where all new processors are released
whatever lets you sleep at night

a lot of people on Jow Forums are from the us. but you can always use google lmgtfy.com/?q=5 ft to m

Never said that you daft cunt. I'm saying you should at least wait and see what's about it before you make a decision.

>just wait a month to see whats its like before you wait another 4-6 months before itll come out
whatever you say bud

I would trust Samsung over obnoxious gaymer brand

How is this? It IS supposed to be low-end barely allowing me to do stuff decently, and it's not that expensive.
AMD RYZEN 3 1200 4-Core 3.1 GHz
MSI A320M PRO-VH PLUS
1050ti EVGA 4gb
EVGA 600 W1
Crucial DDR4 8gb 2133mhz
Seagate 500gb 7200 rpm/3.5 (Probably getting a ssd instead)

when's the next gen of G and CPUs releasing lads

please respond

I didn't think I needed quick charging or qi charging on a case until I saw this. Every other case I see just has a few standard USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. Nothing cool or new.

Definitely spend a few more bucks on the SSD. Other than that it looks pretty dece.

just guessing: april 2019, amd. (I don't know and I am not an expert.)

may 2019 tbqh

smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00429N19W/

this is fine

Mine it's pretty silent. I don't have my case close to my face, though.

Surge protectors and UPS's wont do dicks for a legit lightning strike on your house.

You need a proper lightning rod and grounding system for your entire house, no tiny UPS will be able to handle the surge caused by a legit lightning strike. Surge protectors are really meant to protect from your power company having a surge on the lines, not a direct lightning strike.

An actual lightning strike will be in the realm of hundreds of thousands, or even millions of joules.
Most UPS's and surge protectors are only rated for ~1000 joules, and consumer surge protectors really only go up to maybe 5000 joules. Nowhere near enough to mitigate a real lightning strike.

The NH D15, which is 165mm tall and only has 32mm of space for RAM below the fan would have clearance issues with those tall RAM sticks in the Meshify C. However, you can get a similarly large CPU cooler like the BQ Dark Rock Pro 4 which is 163mm tall, has 40mm of RAM clearance by default, and would have another 9mm of space to move the fans in case you have taller RAM. Unless your RAM is 50mm or more, you would be fine. Of course, if you aren't planning on getting a giant air cooler, none of this matters and the Meshify C would be a great choice.

Yeah, I don't want make compromises because of a small case.

Last part for new build arriving in two days. I can finally retire my 6 year old potato. I'll likely spend the first two months gaming, then I'll use it like my current PC, hording weeb shit and kinky trap porn. Monday can't come soon enough!

I would not say that you should, just that for some people the case would not be a compromise. If you have to have a large air cooler, then by all means get a more spacious case. I was just giving specifications about that case in particular for anyone interested.

Very few people seem to talk about this though. It's always "Just get a Meshify C" while at the same time promoting giant air coolers over liquid cooling.

where are those AMD shills when you need them..

The UPS will burn first before your components do. Believe me.

use a proper UPS should still isolate everything, and SHOULD be destroyed in a way that anything plugged into it is fine, but again, if it's hitting your house, your fridge, microwave, etc is all fucked.

Far better to spend the $2,000+ to get a professionally installed lightning rod and grounding system for the house's electrical system.

You are right and it is a good point to bring up. Anyone getting a giant air cooler should read or watch reviews and look at the specifications online so that they know what to expect. RAM clearance is definitely an issue with many larger air fans, however there area options that mitigate the problem if you are willing to make compromises. Getting a larger case is one compromise (whether you see it that way or not) as is getting a fan with angled heatpipes (like the Mugen 5) or one with smaller fans. Big air coolers should not be bought recklessly or you will probably find our you have a problem when you're building.

I have a CM 690 II from my previous build, is it still up to date?

Attached: cooler-master-cm-690-ii-advance-with-transparent-side-panel-original-imada3fvv4gh2k5q.jpeg?q=70.jpg (776x832, 63K)

do it. amd shills are completely deluded. ryzen is better than intel in the poorfag and mid-tier budgets, but a 9700k is a totally different story. not even le zen 2 reddit numale magic will change that

I mean, most of those UPS are just used to protect 2 or 3 things top, like PC and monitor.

I like AMD more than Intel. I'd buy amd if I had to buy a computer in the next year or so. But most of the computers I've used in my life have been intel, and I wouldn't say I'm an amd shill.

That's my point, if your idea is to protect against a direct lightning strike, a UPS is retarded, you're only protecting a handful devices instead of your entire house.

No, not really, but keep using the case if it still gets the job done for you.
