I had an issue where windows defender was literally using 16gb of ram. Installed some proper antivirus and turned it off.
What does that have to do with anything?

It's rare, but I've seen hardware device drivers consume massive amounts of RAM for seemingly no reason. Make sure ALL your drivers are up to date.

Your shit's fucked, I use FF with 200+ tabs on a PC with 16GB RAM and I hit like 33% with a lot of other shit running. Sounds like you've got some garbage program with a memory leak or something.

I had the same issue and I found out the fix was to disable something in services.msc but I can't remember which service it was. I think it might have been the DNS client.
