My mom was offering to get me an oculus rift for Christmas, I was just wondering if it would be able to run properly off of my laptop.

I have a 3-4 year old Lenovo Thinkpad.

Yeah, but just make sure to install Gentoo

plz be bait

if not then post your specs/model

I have trouble running it with a GTX 1080 in Skyrim on Medium.

no, it will run like shit
you're basically running two 1080p monitors at 90hz each iirc

Sorry I'm not great at tech, but here's an article about my exact model.- pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2408289,00.asp

VR seems really cool but if it won't even work on my laptop I'd rather not waste her money.

>Bugthesda game
Found the issue

Oculus Quest is a better choice.
Just wait for next year.

No
>Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics 520
Double no

Again I'm not a tech guy so sorry if I'm talking gibberish, but is it possible I could plug in a flashdrive or something that would make it powerful enough to run the oculus?

Yeah, it doesnt even have a dedicated GPU. You might be able to get away with running certain low powered tech demos but even that might be painful.

It wouldnt be worth it to have your mom buy because even if she did get it and you saved up for a new computer there would probably be a newer version out.

Sorry user ;-;

if you really want a VR headset you can get a oculus go. it doesnt have 6dof but it is nice.

Unless you have a thunderbolt port, which ctrl+f tell me you don't, then no, you're shit out of luck m8.

Would I be able to play games on the Oculus Go or would I be limited to vr porn?

No. VR requires very powerful gaming hardware. Your laptop is nowhere close to capable

Tbh any VR games would be extremely painful for your system

The best thing is to tell her to buy u a new pc (build the pc yourself) ...and then if u want buy an oculus rift….if u want my advice Don't give ur shekels to that jewish fag shekelberg

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I'm gonna either have to decide on a glorified vr porn station or think of something else I'd want for christmas.

You would be able to play any of the daydreams game that android as but thats about it. Some of them are really cool but they arent as extensive as their pc counter parts.

i forgot that they do have a stand alone vr head set that does have 6dof (meaning you can move around in the vr world) called the lenovo mirage or something like that. But its still limited to android/day dream

no problem dude! have a good one.

Ask for stuff that your relatives understand, eg a monitor since they're similar to TVs
(Because if you ask for a graphics card I doubt they'll get you a good one.)
And then you can save up for a decent system, ryzen 2000 series chips are pretty cheap.

ask for stuff that actually matters like good clothes or cologne bruh

Hahahahhahahahaha! Confirmed bait.

if you're not running it with a 1050ti (or equivalent) or higher, don't even bother dude. you want to do VR right and build your rig around it instead of getting some shit experience

if you don't want to build a computer, just wait for the oculus quest. it'll be out in the spring and is exactly what you want

VR is a fucking meme anyway.

t. Rift owner that's used it for

Genuinely curious, how is VR porn?

Couldn't tell you, never tried it

then why the hell did you even buy vr?

Turn off the in game anti aliasing and just use steam super sampling. I can run it fine on my 970.

I will say though, games/demos where there are people near you have a chilling sense of presence; they feel like they're the same size as you, it's pretty unsettling. I can imagine that it opens up a whole new dimension in porn, I just haven't felt the desire to try it personally.

Because it's a genuinely new interactive experience, and I wanted to try it out. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely cool, I just don't think it's worth owning one at the present time.

Then it's a blurry, unplayable mess. You need at least 2x SSAA to make shit not look blocky and hard to recognize.

It looks awesome, but like everything VR the content is really lacking.
All the VR porn videos are pretty much the same, all mainstream stuff.

IMO not worth getting an expensive VR headset for, but cheaper phone based VR like Samsung Grear VR are worth it for porn (but then that's all they are good for).

How is it blurry if you turn off taa? That's the shit that makes it blurry. Plus it gives you more performance with it off so you can turn up the super sampling.

It's blurry because everything is low resolution. You need to be downsampling to get an acceptable image, otherwise you just see a bunch of pixels. VR games are designed to avoid this, but if you try something like playing GTA V in VR, you can barely drive because everything on the road looks blurry as fuck. You NEED SSAA to make it acceptable, but even then it's still too low resolution.

Yes but in skyrim people complain about the bluriness because they leave taa on. With it off every thing looks fine but you still get the pixel effect from foliage unless you turn ssaa on.

say no
