what really irritates you when see someone else's desktop

WOW NICE, can I do this in Windows too?

When they have the bar on the bottom.

>linux DEs have to look like Windows to be usable, usable layout to do some work that is, not usable enough to fully use the machine.
topkek

What really irritates me is how you are ok with the taskbar being on the bottom with center clock.

>what really irritates you when see someone else's desktop
Icons on desktop.

This
Also, time next to power menu on top right is the only place that feels right to me. Centre reminds me of gnomeshit design.

I know this is a shitpost but how retarded do you have to be to put the time in the center and take away valuable space meant for your task manager

Get a 21:9 and ask this again.

>just pay more money for this meme lmao
retard

Who are you quoting?

>needing to watch the time
Wagie detected. Are you earning money quick enough for the bossman?

A horizontal taskbar/dock on a tiny ass piece of shit screen. Like that picture of yours.

Mein negger

a fuckhuge start menu
and now, apparently, the clock in the middle

thanks, myself

when they don't use the short date code of yyyy-mm-dd and they don't use a 24h clock with leading zeros.

>panel on the bottom
Into trash

windows.

and it was far far better, because of the underlying technology that it took to create it (oo, that being 'smalltalk') .. microshit took the impression, wrote it in C. It was horrible, deteriorated shit from day 1.

when they have icons other than mounted volumes

of course, apple took to oo, smalltalk implementation, that being objective C & they managed to get 'quality', reliability, extendability, coherence. something that the gates brat and his druggy idiots never did understand. Pure regresssion from day 1. The lowest standards in the business from that little "elite".

real programmers see it out to the end. Gates walked way, from his MESS. ... it was always about one thing, not software - $$$. real programmers are able to design

thats what people need to understand -- the GUI could not have been created without smalltalk, without OO. It was simply impossible, far too advanced. Gates et all took that massvie step and stripped it away. They regressed the original technology & now here we are, 2018. The whole public reliant on a buggy '90s'' mess that they cannot advance. No coherence, no design, ever. Fuck microsoft.

vertical taskbar
center clock

what is that DE?

Anime wallpaper.

>center
>not actually in the center

was about $$s, control, exclusion. retarded human progress. 'the lost years' idiots .. ppl here stating 'XP was perfect' need to read up about the xerox suite, the real technology, the DESIGN, the advancement. Gates took it, stripped it all away. Idiots. But that is how it is in the "cash economy" get to the cash, get control, nothing advances on further than you, on your shitheap. the only ballgame on the block. Fuck Microsoft

daily reminder that everyone had to change the look and feel that they copied from Xerox to avoid lawsuits, including Apple and that everyone was also really designing blind early on from seeing demos at Xerox and not actually having the machines

admittedly, this is a bit moot since Windows from 95 takes more UI conventions from Apple's System 7 than anything else
it's deteriorated since then, but that's because MS hasn't put as nearly much time and effort as when they made the Windows 95 UI (which, as much of a System 7 clone as it is, at least went through proper user testing to make sure it was a good, usable clone and not some half-baked knockoff shit)

yeah but what about smalltalk, the methodology the design -- the fact that producing the gui in smalltalk was relatively easy, as it was part of a coherent advancement of language (design, strategy). Whereas knocking the lot off In C, copying the impression was a mess, unmaintainable, from day 1. Such a large thing, as it took that approach, took the invention of smalltalk, to make the GUI possible. Gates, the brat, unqualified, inexperienced, was incapable of understanding such technology. It was a con-job from the start, a cardboard copy. /thread

no one used smalltalk for anything at the time because it was heavy and slow
the xerox machines were like $20k starting price, glhf making an actual user experience in smalltalk on commodity 80s hardware

apple implemented smalltalk

docks

apple implemented the OO
winshit is a mess because it is cobbled together in C, without any structure, language advancement. without any ideas at all. They abandoned the technology that made the GUI possible & it shows. Their software base is un-viable.

gates when asked what his biggest regrest was stated "winfs" .. what he was actually saying was that he regretted not having implemented, the capability of implementation, understanding, systemically, organisationally, an advanced structure, of any kind (from day 1, he failed in that). That interview of gates some years ago, when he had walked away (not a programmer, couldn't solve, it, couldn't fix it). His software a mess, the companies, biggest 'issue'. No platform (their attempt at a kernel abandoned in 2015 after a decade , $$ blown). microshits serial "biggest product failures in human history", serial, every single one. Walked away, abandoned it. The company hobbled by their software now "loves linux"
