Mostly just fuck around in it. Play around with the themes in Windows 3.1. Store some text files from textfiles.com which I enjoy reading within a retro-looking interface. Also have installed Deskmate in that same VM, as well as the After Dark screensavers, Doom Ultimate, Sim City, ASCII Invaders, Nethack, and Borland Turbo C, which I occasionally use to write programs for DOS. Sometimes I like to do various mods, like that time I created a startup menu with CONFIG.SYS. It's a pretty fun system to play around with, though it has no real practical value.

Well, you can also build your own microkernel OS if you learn C and assembly for your platform of choice. If you don't know how there are tutorials online. Every kernel starts as a smiple program and expands from there. I'm building my bootloader mostly in FASM and the rest of the code in C so that it'll stay portable if I ever want to port it to anything other than x86.

Visit aelinik.free.fr/c/ to start with C. It says you can learn in 24 hours but it'll probably take you like 72 hours over the course a few weeks to really grasp all the content. I don't have a lot of experience with development on Windows but I definitely recommend getting a Debian or Ubuntu installation going with GCC and VS Code, or another editor of your choice. That's the easiest way to write, build, and run your code.
