Because AMD has been around as long as Intel, and throughout its almost half century of utter irrelevance there were multiple points where it looked like they're gonna take over, only to fizz out and sink back into irrelevance for another decade. The big money is in enterprise and shit like that, not gamers, so while AMD is surviving until they win over the people using Intel in their servers Intel is still going to be ahead. That and AFAIK Intel generally has a much more diversified portfolio instead of relying on the success of only a few things. AMD CPUs are doing well, GPUs not so much, and the console business is likely slowing down.
