1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.

First for Debian GNU/Linux Stable + Xfce is maximum comfy.

Yeah, a good directory structure has been working so far but it doesn't help with rediscovering and being able to add searchable tags and descriptions to the files would be nice.

XFCE is bloat

It's called Xfce, retard.

Why are there so few free (as in freedom) video games?

Attached: 15313187211390.jpg (216x209, 15K)

xfce is bloat

New Manjaro KDE install keeps freezing up after about 4 hours uptime. htop shows CPU spikes up to 75% per core during this time. RAM below 2GB. What do?

>gets it wrong again
The video game industry as it is now is powered by vendor locks and consumerism, neither of which grows well on freedom land. Some people try to argue that cheaters would destroy freedom respecting online games but that can only happen in poorly designed systems. Small communities ran by people are much easier to moderade.

>arch

she said manjaro

kys I would rather use

They are the same.

What software do you guys use to organize and rediscover your porn? Mine is mainly videos but pictures too. I would also use it for normal videos.

wtf? Richard Gnu Stallman is a fucking nazi?
I hate windows now

toybox

@68975455
no

Why don't we make some free (as in freedom) video games user? You and me.

stop playing games
stop watching porn

I'm not really into gaymen but I can help with ideas.

And some programming if it is network related.

OK total n00b here. Where should I install programs? Whats the best practice? /usr/local/ ?

Yes. /usr/local or /opt/

How should I waste my life then? Pls explain.

Stop posting and go watch jordan peterson self-help videos.

thanks for your help faggot

@68975538
you are welcome

thank you

Also, /opt/ is best for software that is not split into /bin, /lib, etc.

i try to develop an app for raspberry pi for the first time. do i have to develop in a linux environment?
i would prefer to write in windows environment, but i can set up a virtual environment.
so far im thinking i should use pycharm and QT-designer.

Why is there no single good Desktop Environment.
They all have their hangups imo
how hard is it make something that just works and looks pretty while being minimal and light

Attached: download.jpg (245x206, 8K)

It's usually easier to develop on the target platform but it depends on the programming language. Python and qt are pretty good at cross platform so you should be fine.

>how hard is it make something that just works and looks pretty while being minimal and light
Have you tried?

Finally got around to installing polybar, can someone post a vice config that I can copy? I'm using i3, if that makes a difference.

Attached: TR4PP3D.jpg (720x895, 245K)

i just upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 and dear hecking god is gnome ugly and slow
how do i make this bearable

xubuntu

Is there more to this story?

im more concerned that it wouldnt work at all after i deploy it on the pi.
do you have any wisdom on that part?

Depends on what the program does. Can't you at least test it on a linux vm?

No.

I meant GNU/Linux.

cant update if your dead

it samples pictres from the camera, crops faces and send the picture to a server.

im just setting up now and i would like to know in advance if it would be compatible so i wont have to scrap it in case it doesnt...

file manager + locate command
just make sure stuff is properly named or atleast organized by folders

literally the best desktop is something minimal like i3 or dwm

dwm seems hard to install
and if i change the headers i have to recompile it?

dwm is easy to install

t. non-programmer

It would be nice to be able to add ratings, tags and descriptions.

Noob question. I have download some software in the form of tar.bz2 and unarchived it. It's now a folder of 10 files. How do I proceed from here to install the software? Using Lubuntu.

There should be a text file with instructions, such as INSTALL or README. If not try ./configure && make && sudo make install

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......ha

Attached: 1543296459241.gif (540x540, 279K)

is hydrus network what you're looking for?
otherwise the autistic way would be to do something like adding the ratings/tags/descriptions in a text file in the directory and using some combination of cat/grep/sed/awk

hydrus is shit.

How do you automate decrypting a luks volume,mounting it, running an rsync command,when it complets it unmounts,runs luksClose.
I dont want to use crypttab or fstab, i want it to be compeltly done within the script.

man sh

Does not explain anything.

>man social skills

decrypt(volume);
mount(volume);
rsync(volume);
unmount(volume);
luksClose(volume);

What tells umount and luksclose that rsync compelted?

No need to compile and you could easily have found this info by yourself. I think you have o run monerod then use the monero-wallet-cli. Haven't used in a while.

That would be very autistic but I'm almost doing it.

There is any good CLI music player that can read CDDA? It doesnt matter what I do, CMUS will always crash trying to read my CDs.

mpd and some interface probably.

im trying it out myself as a test and its not really hard to do i just dont know how functional it would be for actual use

can someone tell me the benefits of arch? i never used linux but i kinda like the simplistic not bloated idea of arch is it a good idea to go with arch instead of another distro?

The benefit is being able to brag on the internet.

No, seriously, if you like it then install it, you have nothing to lose. Worst case scenario you install something else on top if it.

Attached: 1538724736097.png (1920x1080, 1.84M)

the only benefit of arch is for bleeding edge software or for the AUR which i think is a little overrated
arch is not as simple as you think it is, debian would be more simple than arch while still being minimal enough

I really want something like AUR because its super convenient but it's also counter intuitive to go through the trouble of installing arch just to have convenience

Attached: joukamachi_no_dandelion-04-karen-best_friend-thinking-serious-cute.jpg (1280x720, 51K)

>go through the trouble of installing arch just to have convenience
What trouble?
10 commands is hard?

noobuntu ppas are pretty much he same.

And I could also compile whatever software I want from source, no trouble whatsoever

Attached: gif.gif (1280x720, 795K)

arch isnt convenient
the AUR isnt as convenient as you think it is

She is going to get murdered.

Manjaro aka memejaro.

Anyone got a good magic sysrq cheat sheet? If not I'm trying to find general linux-related cheat sheets (like editors, debuggers, etc)

The benefits of Arch are bleeding edge, everything being on your package manager, and not having your system pre-installed with loads of useless shit

Is tlp placebo?

What's the best way to remove unnecessary packages? I installed a bunch of shit in haste and now I want to clean things up.

search in your bash history for the garbage you installed
use sed

Whats the best Open Source Music Player for Arch-Linux?
Are there any good DAWs for Arch?

depends on your package manager

no

There are many good music players for GNU/Linux. What do you want from them? What is DAW?

>Whats the best Open Source Music Player for Arch-Linux?
if you want something that works similar to itunes or foobar, try these, in no particular order: amarok, clementine, rhyhtmbox, deadbeef
>Are there any good DAWs for Arch?
ardour, lmms

user-kun, it's been so long since we've hung out. Do you want to play some games? You still like me, don't you??

Attached: a5a3bad053e9e55cf992e0ce2dbe4a95.png (600x375, 244K)

No, I've been asking you for 33 years what's in those candies and you still refuse to tell me.

Sorry I'm gay now.

Sorry I'm on the spectrum now

thanks was looking for an alternative to ardour since that programm is absolute trash will try lmms
>amarok, clementine, rhyhtmbox, deadbeef
any of these similar to aimp?

>pretty on the outside
>shit on the inside
>does literally anything and everything to extort money from me, it's never enough
>high maintenance, whenever you want to "update" yourself I always have to drop what I'm doing and pay attention, you never consider my needs
>spies on me
>whenever we're together you just let yourself go, becoming fat and slow over the coming years
You were never good for me. I've moved on.

>now

>pretty on the outside
no

10€ and I will install it for you

How do I create a suid binary that starts a shell?

install pentoo

manjaro

GPL all the things!

>the trouble of installing arch

ur so 1337, pls no hack

>ur so 1337
i can both read (the wiki install guide) and have motor functions (to type out the commands in said wiki install guide)

system("bash -p");
