CPU
>CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums
>Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming
>R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-9700k/8700k - If you have a $2000+ budget and pairing with a 2080 or better
>R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

RAM
>Always choose at least a 2 stick kit
>8GB - Bare minimum/Light desktop use.
>16GB - Standard amount
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula

Graphics cards
>RTX 2000 cards; cheap models usually low yield processor. Aim for factory OC versions for best performance
>use your due diligence with cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans. They may be cheap, but won't get high boost clocks like better models

Why is Ryzen shit at drawcalls and why is CPU usage so much lower compared to Intel? What is holding back AMD from fixing these things?

Is custom loop water cooling a meme? I read around that after a while, in prolonged load use (1+hours) the water will heat up to the point it's hardly a big difference over air. Is that true

You can look at the block diagrams and make some educated guesses if you understand what types of operations you're doing.

when are the 3000 series Ryzen chips coming out? I think that's when I'm finally going to bite the bullet and build a new pc.

~4-8 months

8 months is a long time :(

yup, they haven't even announced really any details about it.

You might get some news at CES, but I sorta doubt it'll be a product launch or even announcement of the launch.

A heating system cannot cool below ambient air temperature without refrigerant or evaporative cooling. Big air cooling setups are pretty damn efficient.

While true, you're limited to the size of the heatsink MUCH more than you are the size of radiators.

I can stuff 2 or 3 radiators in a large case, but really the heatsinks max out at around the NH-D15 size, you'll never really find any heatsink offering much more surface area than that one.

Wtf, envidia makes APUs now?

and when will AMD's new 7nm GPU come out? Q4 2019?

My guess would be summer or fall.

Certain operations will perform better on intel due to it being able to run more effciently on certain pipelines due to registers, cache speed, etc, etc.

If you know how the program you're running hits the CPU specifically, what operations specifically are being done, and the way your CPU treats them, you can predict which CPU will have better performance for your use-case.

I cant actually find a fx-60. will an fx-62 work?

Comes with curved monitor. This computer was bought for $1k new according to multiple websites and the monitor is around $130-180 new (owner saysbought for $220 though). How much is this worth used? They are selling for 600 which seems like a good deal.

Attached: 00Y0Y_4f99dvU3P2d_600x450.jpg (600x450, 31K)

Decent deal, just know that the 1700 is not really the best gaming CPU for higher framerates.

It's solid for most games at 60fps with a good GPU though, like the 1070.

>new 1070 for 299euros
should i do it?

Which 1070?

zotac mini

You wont really be able to OC it.

what if i dont plan on OC it?

Probably fine, will likely run hotter than a larger card though. Even at stock clocks.

Then you're saving some money, compare with euro sites to gauge how much, go for it sure, it'll last you a few years of decent gaming

Rebbit site saying those 1070's are worth 400 alone and even during this graphic card inflation which makes it worth even more now. I know this thread was like 11 months ago though.

>tfw waiting on paycheck and hoping it comes in fast enough to get one of these monoprice 1440p/144hz monitors

c'mon, damnit

>imagine being so poor you have to wait to get paid to buy something
>let alone spend it on a monitor

its 350-450 on the regular sites. i mean its cheaper than some of the 1060 6gb versions
im just going to hit the order button

The more effort you put into something, the more satisfaction you get out of it. That monitor's going to feel great.

Sniping is a thing. I remember how somebody tried to pull an iPad from me an I won just by $1, but that motherfucker raised the price for me almost to the limit I bet.

Half the time it's a mate of the seller. Always bid what you're willing to pay for something and never look back, if they outbid you they just wasted their ebay commish.

desu I should have stayed at work until it was done or just not been a jew and raised my limit to ~150

I'm losing my shit over this that isn't giving expected performance:
>8700k (w/ Noctua D-15)
>1080ti Strix
>Maximus X Formula mobo
>16gb ram
>Win 7

Runs games really slow. Red Orchestra 2 has an almost stable 60fps with dips in dense areas. CS:S and TF2 run really laggy like 20fps even on lowest graphics which my toaster runs faster with. No overclocking (besides XMP RAM) is used. "Monitor" is a Sony TV for now. (Yes, HDMI is in the GPU)

Another weird thing is that when the PC gets turned on, it loses power for 5-10 seconds then restarts/resumes booting back on again. But if I turn off the ASUS lighting on the 1080ti, then it turns on normally without interruptions.

Also related, the 1080ti has an ORANGE glowing led before logging in to user, while my brother's 1070ti glows RED before logging in (Win10). So far my brother's 2700X + 1070ti + X470-F PC runs any given game smoother and exceptionally well.

Any idea what would be the problem here? GPU, CPU, and PSU all seem to be the culprits but I'm absolutely bewildered and upset about this... I used this PC for 6 months and I just can't stand this disappointment anymore...

Attached: 1521992525927.jpg (6666x6666, 727K)

There's always another bargain to be had, keep hunting and you'll find something as good or better. Check craigtree and face-market too.

>isn't giving expected performance
Enjoy your endless intel secutity patches

Swap cards with your brother, see if that fixes it. If so, your card's fuckled. If not, do the same with PSU etc.

Do cpu,gpu,ram tests

I saves up and finally bought a new monitor. 144hz 1080p 24", XG4202. I didn't find it had enough wow factor for the price so I returned it and got a 27" 1440p 144hz. Now that was the result I was looking for!

Enjoy it mang.

>tfw just bought 28" 4K 60Hz monitor

idk if i should return for 1440p 144hz

I don't know where to post this but I can't turn the leds on my new gpu
I have this card evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-5173-KR
and only the side leds light up
Send help

What LEDs? The card only has some white illumination on the side, nothing else.

Speaking of patches/updates, I haven't downloaded any Windows updates since installation of Win7. Is that any relevant?

I'll do that with a techie. What else should I test besides GPU and PSU?

Attached: 1543692303873.png (900x900, 556K)

4K is a meme desu, most people say they can barely tell the difference between 2K and 4K at normal viewing distance, and the fact that you can get high frame rates at 1440p and not 4K without absurd hardware makes it a dreaded double meme.

Front plate leds

Attached: 1c7bd95c-2a5c-4676-a210-d131b36d09d4.png (998x437, 460K)

If that doesn't do it, I'd suspect the motherboard

>I haven't downloaded any Windows updates since installation of Win7.
Lol

What is the best am2 processor? Don't say anything phenom because i have a no name motherboard i will not be able to find bios updates for.

>I haven't downloaded any Windows updates since installation of Win7. Is that any relevant?
fucking kek

what's the difference between a GW2760HL and a GW2760HS?

It's a generic image of their shroud, not all cards have the lighting.
You can try removing it and check if there's actually a LED beneath it.

Based on the specs yours only has a white logo on the side, nothing else.

Well, if that's the source of the problem then I'll fucking download all 500 or so updates right now. I was just concerned about the mini-telemetry patch they included in one of the more recent ones.

The only differences between the two panels are minor.

Looks like the HL panel has better low blue light.

HS has
>Low Blue Light

HL has
>Low Blue Light Plus

HS uses 50W
HL uses 47W

the only other difference is the HS can do -5 degree to 15 degree tilt.

The HL can do -5 degree to 20 degree tilt.

besides that they use the same panel.

>It's a generic image of their shroud, not all cards have the lighting.
Not really, FTW version says RGB and some other stuff
That image is only used by 1070 ACX 3.0 normal and black editions (I have black)
I will check for the actual leds tomorrow though

that's what I am thinking of now. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1070 Ti and play mostly first person shooters. I would want a higher refresh rate in these games more than resolution?

Also, if I make the switch, is it worth it to get G-sync with the 1440p monitor?

1440p 144hz is good, but you're not going to hit 144fps in most games and gsync is retardedly overpriced and has worse monitor choices.

You might be better off just getting a 1440p 60-75hz monitor with an Nvidia GPU.

Run a free benchmark like Fire Strike

Just got another 16gb of ram, now there is no more stutter on high vram usage. The gpu was reserving atleast 8gb every time and i guess the remaining 8 wasnt enough for the system

I need a motherboard and case, preferably micro atx and white case. Help me!

>ancient game on low settings cant even mantain 144hz
wtf

I messed with my bios and broke my mobo. It was an old gigabyte socket 1155. So now I have to buy another mobo with everything compatible. So new CPU, new RAM and new ventirad. I have a perfectly working GTX970 and won't change it.

What do you think of this list ? Will the 970 GTX hold ?

Attached: Screenshot_20181219-225416_Chrome.jpg (1080x2220, 414K)

Price are in Swiss currency.

Where's the best place to buy an OEM windows 10 key whether the price is $10 or $30 doesn't impact the probability of the key working right?

Bad. As an example, the i5 7500 = i3 8100
Kaby Lake is terrible value at this point. Your options are Coffee Lake (like i5 8400) or Ryzen (R5 2600)

What's your old CPU? If it's not dead, you might just be able to buy a new mobo

This gave me a cold chill mate. Yesterday I was playing around in the BIOS of my 1155, pushed bclk too high and it got stuck in a reboot loop, I then tried to clear the bios and at first it wouldn't work, thought I broke everything. Thankfully the bios switch button worked and I managed to clear the first one as well, though now the bclk value just disappeared from the bios.

Is it worth upgrading with a 6700k and a gtx 1070 yet?

ebay

I don't want something too expensive. I play mostly indie game. Witcher 3 was the last graphic intensive game I played and it was fine on max setting with my 960, core i5 old gen and 8 go of ddr3.

What would you advise then ?

I don't remember it's a core i5 socket 1155 so I don't think it would be ok on new mobo. It's hard to find a of a 1155 mobo.

Well I tried a bios update because it was suggested by some dev of a game I couldn't launch. I updated and then everything went to nightmare. I tried clear cmos, removing the battery, holding the power button to trigger bios backup. I even tried shorting pins on the mbios chip and nothing worked. I always get the buis splashscreen, 3 beep at 20 seconds interval and then black screen. Keyboard doesn't work even the ps/2 keyboard.

>It's hard to find a of a 1155 mobo.
Just buy a used one. Again, be advised, the i3 8100 is the same thing as an i5 7500

But 8100 is 8th gen so it needs more modern and expensive mobo right ?

Have you looked up if your motherboard has a dual BIOS mode and a switch for getting to the backup one? Worth a shot though it probably won't solve anything.

Attached: ppLMpoK[1].png (541x195, 9K)

>so it needs more modern and expensive mobo
No

There is 2 bios chip but I haven't looked for a switch. I'll try that. Thanks. I know Jow Forums isn't a tech support board. I also posted in /wsr/.

>Witcher 3 was the last graphic intensive game I played and it was fine on max setting with my 960, core i5 old gen and 8 go of ddr3.
That can't be right unless you think that 50fps with dips to 40 is "fine"

They're expensive and price/performance wise terrible compared to a bequiet!/noctua and triple fan gpu heatsink. They very quiet and undeniably superior in actual performance though. AIOs are debatable because the pumps are loud, the interface between the heatspreader and IHS can have issues, and they use lower end hardware in general.

The price of entry has gone down considerably though.

>tfw recently bought a 1060 but a 144hz freesync monitor is on sale
should I return the 1060 and get a 580 + the monitor or is it OK to use the monitor with the 1060 until I upgrade in the next 2-3 years?

>freesync monitor is on sale
They're... always cheaper. You should have gotten the RX580/590 to begin with.

I remember fondly those weeks when I was in high school working at a butcher shop and saving every penny to get an Xbox 360 and the first Gears Of War. That was the most satisfying experience related to gaming I've ever had

yea I know but the 1060 was only 230 cad
the cheapest 580s in Canada only got to around 260 and those were the ones with shitty coolers I believe
the monitor is the XG2401 which I read is one of the best 144hz monitors out there so I'm thinking of doing my 2nd option

Why not just ask your parents for money? Are amerifat families so fucked up?

Oh. 230 CAD for a 1060 6Gb is pretty cheap.

How's this?
au.pcpartpicker.com/list/7gpLBb

Indeed they are fucked up. My dad was murdered in Chicago when I was 5 and my mom was a dysfunctional, nervous alcoholic for the rest of my childhood. I had no one to buy shit for me, so I had to save up

>order ncase m1 end of november
>pay for express shipping
>gets here last week on wednesday, marked as delivered 2 hours later
>usps lets some random fucker sign for it instead of handing it off to the apartment management or leaving it in the mailroom
>checked every neighboring business, no one got it by mistake, nor did anyone recognize the asshole's signature that signed for it
>have a bunch of parts just sitting because the case was the final part
>because the dipshit usps carrier gave it to some random fuckwit and marked it as delivered it looks like I'm lying

Really fucking hope sfflabs can either refund me or just reship it. Fucking absolutely pissed someone management to steal it and the dumbass carrier couldn't even just hand it off to the management.
