Do you own an IPS monitor? If so, would you recommend it over TN?

Yes. IPS is probably the least shit general usage display technology we have right now.
Don't get me wrong, it's still shit, but not as shit as TF, VA or OLED.

For one you can look at it (ips) at any angle and the picture will still look good.

Yes, no
If I use windows to project from PC to UHD smart tv a 4k video file will I get the 4k image or will it output my native pc resolution..?

>tfw went from 60hz tn cuck -> 144hz tn cuck -> 240hz tn cuck
I mean, my laptop is IPS, but I've never owned an IPS monitor.

ips is way better desu. i'll never buy tn again

OLED would be the best if it weren't for burnin
TN is good for cheap high refresh rate monitors, but it's shit, similar to late 2000's IPS displays

IPS is the best

OP here. Considering this as it's the cheapest I can get. Hot takes?

I use an IPS panel for most things, but a 144hz VA panel for gaming.

I switched from a pair of HP1940 19" 5:4 screens to a single LG 34UM68-P, which was over $600 at its initial price.

I saw no difference. People told me it's because the HP had an exceptionally good TN panel. I call bullshit, because this IPS panel is supposed to be 99% SRGB, an ancient HP monitor would've been nowhere near that level, yet I saw no difference.

So if the TN panel is good, there is absolutely no reason to go for IPS.

VA is by far the absolute best you can get without any doubt whatsoever.

>i'm a retard and don't notice anything so everyone else must be too
wewlad, what a world you must live in

well I mean if the difference is subtle enough that he didn't notice prob better to just go with the cheaper option eh?

I prefer 144hz tn, color doesn't mean much to me, I like having smooth motion. I'd go 240hz, but I'm trying not to spend too much money currently.

Again, just because HE is a fucking retard doesn't mean everyone is.

MOST people notice the difference if they're not a fucking boomer moron.

Especially if you've ever used highly color accurate displays before.

Or are directly comparing the panels side by side.

You see, user, if you put the panels side by side and compare the colour accuracy under a light microscope, there is a slight improvement in the IPS monitor's colour. THIS is why you spend $100 more! Doesn't it make sense?

It's funny how usually the more insistent they are on calling someone else a retard, the more they appear themselves to be one. Usually two arguments are made against TN in favor of IPS. Color fidelity, and viewing angle. Now excuse me for the potato quality picture, which was made five years ago on a cheap phone, but I believe this one puts at least the viewing angle issue to rest.

The HP1940 I switched from did not warrant the switch from TN to IPS, and I'd like to believe that any TN panel should be at least on par now with a monitor that was made well over a decade ago, regardless how exceptional it was then.

Is this the dell U2518D? Are you happy with it (backlight bleeding, etc)?

Why do you think he opened the curtains?

How could you ever exceed 144 fps?

it's a u2417h and it's fine. there's a very small amount at the bottom left corner and upper left corner

Anyone with a Samsung CFG73 have experience with the purple overshoot I hear about constantly? Seems like a good media/gaming monitor to pair with my IPS editing one

It depends on what you want, like most things.

Do you value off-angle viewing (or large displays)? Do you value color accuracy?

More importantly, do you value those over, say, response time? Then go IPS. The tl;dr is basically:

>High-refresh and quick response time
Go TN
>Color accuracy and viewing angles
Go IPS
>I want the world but compromise is OK
Go VA

>Picrel
Now translate that same display up or down. IPS is always superiour in ALL viewing angles, thats the point.

And if you're retardedly obsessed with muh blacks.
>OLED

>he posted it again
fuck off

No it fucking isn't. There's your fucking proof right there. Part of the brightness on the right picture comes from glare, because the lights are turned on in the room for that picture, while the left picture was taken in total darkness, so the camera would pick up easier on unevenly backlit spots. The panel produces virtually identical pictures at an angle so extreme, you'd never use it that way.

IPS is fucking meme.

Honestly OLED is legitimately the best. The response time is supposed to be insanely fast, color accuracy has the best potential, and obviously you can't beat the contrast. We just have to work out how to stop the burn-in and prolong the life of the diodes.

OLED is definitely the future, but not worth the price right now I'd say.

What you have to work out first is how not to oversaturate the fuck out of every picture.

Honestly TN is legitimately the best. The response time is supposed to be insanely fast and obviously you can't beat the refresh rate. We just have to work out how to increase viewing angles and get better accuracy.

>IPS
>21:9
>QHD
>glossy
>100+hz

Does it exist?

Yes and yes, but IPS still suffers from terrible flaws and we desperately need a serious upgrade to become common and affordable without horrible drawbacks.

Very comfy user, looks like you live in Virginia or something haha. What headphones are those?

t. TN incel poorfag

close. they're sennheiser 558s. had them for 4 years now and no issues.

she* :3

Yeah I have one. Does it look better? Yes. Does it look $250 better? Eh.
