The only rasonable thing to do would be a strict "go f** yourself" as soon as the so-called SJWs start nagging.

But usually it goes down ike this:
1) SJWs starts a shit campaign ("Project xyz is sooo evil,stop supporting them!!")
2) Project maintainers think the lesser evil will be a code of conduct.
3) SJW people manage to get the CoC-make position (this is crucial to their strategy; often you can hear a lot of arguments like "hurr, how are binary cis people supposed to speak for us poor harrassed masses?")
4) Maintainers think: "Oh well, it's only a piece of theoretical ideals, hahaha. What could possibly go wrong?"
5) CoC people start their endgame, using their new power to harass developers (notice the irony here!) who do not "consent" with their ideas of right and wrong. Often they use any kind of unrelated stuff ("Mr. x said 20 years ago that rapists shouldn't be hanged. He is therefore a rape-apologist and shouled be removed from the project..")
Please note that it's usually NOT about those people and NOT about their code or political views. It's about setting a warning example. This can't be stressed enough: the main reason is that other devs / maintainers live with the thought that "they could be next". It's the same mechanisms toalitarian regimes use to suppress the opposition.
6) After the projects was "cleansed" they usually search the next victim, rinse and repeat.
Because make no mistake: It's NOT about some project being not welcoming or overly rude. It's a preemptive attack against an imaginary enemy which has nothing to do with actual social injustices. It's only politics and craving for power from people who would be meaning less if they were only coders and not vocal "activists".
