What would actually happen if generals (or subchannels) were removed (as they should be) is that most threads would get the 2 or 3 replies they deserve (preferably with a visible sage) and then die and the occasional interesting question would get some actual discussion from the whole board and not just the 4-5 permanent residents of the subchannel that keep them alive 24/7. It's the difference between a static, stale board and a dynamic, evolving one.
