I’m a junior CS major. I have a 2.9 GPA but I have 3 internships and a sysadmin job under my belt. Will I be prepared for a job in the real world given I do well in the technical interviews?

>sysadmin

Considering the sheer amount of people needed in this sector you can apply for anything, really. A lot of companies educate internally on frameworks and what not.

Do they really? I work at a start up. It's my first job, and I haven't had a single second of "internal education" even though I desperately need it.

>2.9 GPA

Hahahahahahahahahahahahah

Idk al you did is tell us your stupid gpa which is irrelevant to the real world.

all that matters is the degree, it's not worth the effort to get above what is needed to earn the degree.

that's one of my top 10 favorite videos thanks for reminding me

wish I could see a longer version on pornhub, I think that one is cut short.

Thank you anons

t. Guy who won't be going to grad school

One day you might want to go to graduate school. My company gives us $8k a year towards tuition.

That was kind of my point. I have a shitty GPA because freshman and sophomore year I cared more about doing dumb as little projects outside of school and having a social life. I’m getting my shit together but I’m wondering if my “experience” outweighs my low gpa in the eyes of an employer

And also, I plan on going to grad school. Despite my low GPA, I’ve been working under the head of grad studies since my freshman year, to the point where she’s literally recommending people to come to me when they have internships. My school has an SFS program which will pay for grad school and shes been telling me to apply for 2 semesters now.
I guess the question I’m asking everyone is, is it cool to keep doing what I’m doing? Or do I need to get my shot together, focus less on internships, and focus more on grades?

Get it up to a 3.0 then no one will give a shit. For most employers that's the cut off.

The importance of grades is inversely proportional to the amount of experience you have.

If you have no experience, then yeah, grades matter more, because they're all you've got to speak for you.

However, once you get the job, you have to be able to do the job, and in my experience good grades alone don't mean that you can actually do the work, (because you don't necessarily have to do the job to get the grades).

>cs student
>majoring in cs
Never got this, I'm doing cs.ba and my major is software development, what does cs mean as a major ?

>4.0 in my major and current institution gpa
>3.52 overall gpa from my last college that I dropped out of when I first tried going to school when I was younger
>28 year old boomer that washed out of uni the first time around, worked construction and odd jobs for years, and now going back to school finishing my last semester in CS
>no internships/work at any relevant companies and a github with only a couple small-medium sized personal projects that are all mildly shit
how fugged am I

>spending 8 years and god knows how much of your money going to school
Are you guys serious? Even going for 4 years is questionable.
I'm pretty nobody cares at all what yourGPA is. I though you were asking if you would actually be prepared to do work. Don't put it on your resume if you don't think it's good enough.

you sound like a stand up guy
dont' sweat it

Your CS degree is almost useless when it comes to becoming a sysadmin. Be prepared to have some highschool dropout linux sperg treat you like his bitch.

Should've done MIS if you wanted to be a sysadmin.

I don’t want to be a aysadmin. I have an emphasis in cyber security. I only said I’m a sysadmin because I thought having a job during college in a field related to a job you want is a plus. Everyone else I know works at restaurants n shit.

CS still has little to do with cyber security, beyond maybe understanding stuff like buffer overflows.

I know. But, at least here, I can’t just get a degree in cyber security. It has to be cs with an emphasis in cyber security, which is what I’m doing
