I'm the last maintainer for software that will be discontinued soon. The employer wants me to help migrate everything to the new system and then they can lay me off. It's like being a sonderkommando. Obviously, I have been applying for new jobs but nothing has materialized yet.

IT support for a middle school, used to be a fantastic job where the only responsibilities were 80-90 teachers/staff and the equipment they used on campus. Then they decided to give 600 kids Chromebooks with a fuck ton of web apps/learning tools/testing support and now I have almost 700 users to support instead of less than 100. Basically doing the job of 2 people and getting paid 18 bucks an hour to do it. Administration has retardedly high expectations on how fast things can get done with that many people to support. Principal is a woman who thinks she's god's gift to a failing inner city school but is actually trashing up the place while her AP's pick up the pieces behind her - last year she basically denied the previous AP of discipline from actually disciplining the kids and doesn't help at all when there are multiple incidents and the APD is overloaded.

I'm out as soon as this school year ends, just doing a smooth transition so they have absolutely nothing to bitch about. I'm ready to do half the work and make at least 50% more pay literally anywhere else.

The codebase is a mess from years of the business side refusing to take responsibility for the requirements, juniors and interns with more ambition than oversight, senior devs who just don't give a shit of the world comes crashing down on them, and micromanager up top. Management in general at the company is comically dysfunctional with fiefdom builders, sheer incompetence, salesmen promising clients the moon. I try to balance building out new features with fixing up the code when I can but the sheer volume of it makes it difficult.

Been trying to get out but weird software stack has put me in an awkward position.
