Realtek's always been garbage-tier quality. There's a reason why cheap motherboards have Realtek Ethernet while more expensive ones use Intel. RTL8111 has 4K+16K memory, Intel I211 has 128k+16k. Qualcomm's E2500 has 256k. For context, my enterprise-grade Intel 82571GB NIC from 2009 has 128K+512K.

It's the same story with their wireless chipsets and everything else they make: you get the bare minimum required to make it (barely) work.

That's because you use the front jack which is connected through a thin unshielded cable inside the computer case. It is constantly bombarded by EMI, so of course it picks up noise.

besides, it doesn't even matter, just use a quality external amp. For 5.1 output you can use a receiver through HDMI in passthrough mode (ie. it passes image through even when turned off). A fully featured used receiver costs less than a videocard nowadays.

That's the source of the myth that a dedicated sound card somehow helps: They usually don't have front audio connectors so you're forced to connect to the back of the case. You'd get the same result by simply plugging into the rear audio ports. External DACs also eliminate this noise since you send a digital signal directly to it and there's not much interference between a DAC on your desk and your headphones. DACs are generally highly overrated, btw. Any decent modern receiver has a higher quality headphone jack, better built-in DAC and HDMI inputs for a digital signal.

hate to break it to you but there's very little enterprise use of anything Broadcom beyond chips included in routers and switches and that's not very common. High-end motherboards will either have a Qualcomm or a Intel NIC.
