it takes longer with vlc to rotate the screen because you have to look for it in the menu
where as with mpv you just use hotkeys(alt+left) to rotate the screen

Here's why smplayer with mpv backend is preferable to vlc: It doesn't handle network audio very well. Playing files on local audo output works fine. My surround receiver isn't connected directly to my desktop or my laptop so I use network audio and vlc will stutter and mess up for 15 seconds before finally playing fine. This happens on every file if I play a playlist of musicvideos or something like that.

smplayer/mpv doens't have this problem. smplayer has all the GUI options VLC has and more and mpv is simply a better player than vlc ever was.

It's sorting alphabetically. Put a 0 before single digits (01, 02...)

vlc has easy zoom/crop options in the gui to fix this, as well as a "minimal interface" option which makes it indistinguishable from mpv

You can add sub directories to the config file for subs and audio too I believe. You can drag them into mpv, too. The rest is trivial.

The android client has audio issues when play starts.
It also doesn't have much in the way of options for displaying file trees. So if you've got a bunch of videos in the same folder with long similar file names (i.e. Series: The series s01e01 through s01e11), you just have to keep guessing until you stumble upon the right video.

You drag sub files to the mpv window and drop them. So easy a braindead chimp could do it. But you'd rather flip through 20000 menus
