For suggestions on programs that aren't bloat refer to suckless.org/rocks
Acceptable GNU/Linux distributions that aren't bloat
Gentoo Debian(NET ISO) Void(Hipster but werks) Alpine(Pretty damn minimal)
Another protip to keep your system minimal is to keep your package count lower than 999.
Get recommendations to see if your system is bloat or not >OS >DE/WM >Video/Music player >Image viewer >File Manager >Text Editor >Shell >Web Browser >Terminal
Protip: If you aren't comfortable with the terminal or aren't proficient with GNU/Linux this thread isn't for you.
If you feel this thread gets a little autistic, read this quote made by an user from the previous thread. "Minimalism = A very good thing" Too much of something is never good."
You're a faggot and you don't know anything about technology. An obsession with minimalism is a sign of being a tech illiterate sperglord pretending to know something.
Benjamin Moore
That image is so dated.
Connor Smith
Is ranger bloated?
Blake Morris
Install $MEMEWARE. It has 10% of the features while using 50% of the disk space. It may do what you need after writing your own scripts.
Owen Roberts
Source Mage is better than Gentoo, but GuixSD has the best package manager and init. Those two should replace Debian and Gentoo.
fuck you reddit niggers, i like using minimalist software it's good on older hardware, and makes bootup and use nice and snappy. hell, even on newer machines it's comfy to have something where i understand everything that's going on and can modify it to how i like.
Jaxson Moore
This. Time to scrap OP and start again.
Juan Miller
good goy. be sure to download REAL software like spotify, discord, and adobe acrobat, so we can can track you and sell your data like the cattle you are.
Elijah Adams
Fuck off bloatnigger
Juan Hernandez
Now seriously, why the change in the OP? Does he wants to start a flamewar or something?
Robert Flores
Just out of curiousity, why is Arch not on the "acceptable distro" list?
>i3 >vim >Thunar >FUCKING FIREFOX Nigger are you insane?
Jason Brown
This. Package count has nothing to do with minimalism.
Joshua Davis
But i3 and vim are not that bad?
Camden Ross
ranger in Go already exists, it's called lf It kinda sucks though.
Carson Butler
I checked some distros and they bundle several programs in one package. Not looking to start a long debate but this is true in Arch.
Anthony Rodriguez
i3 is not THAT bad, but vim is a 30 MB binary made of unmaintanable legacy code that not even the developer understands. And don't even bring up NeoVim, that's hardly any better.
Dominic Lewis
Can you tell me why Am retard
Xavier Nelson
Ask the Arch devs themselves. They have stated why multiple times.
this is exactly why I hate archtards, they don't even know how to properly chroot
Lucas Rodriguez
>OS Windows 7 >DE/WM Windows classic >Video/Music player wmp >Image viewer wpv >File Manager don't need one >Text Editor n++ >Shell not aero >Web Browser Iridium >Terminal what is that
Luke Green

Benjamin Murphy
I'd really like to use Windows 3.11 as my main OS, but it isn't really possible unless through a virtual machine, which kind of defeats the whole 'minimalist' philosophy to begin with.
Easton Brown
>Windows 7 Hi, Ranjesh. >not aero Aero isn't a shell.
Emacs is purposefully not minimalist. And the best file manager is the terminal, it fulfills all the same functions with the core utilities.
Cameron Collins
>OS Artix >DE/WM dwm >Video/Music player mpv/ncmpcpp >Image viewer feh >File manager nnn >Text editor vim >Shell mksh >Web browser qutebrowser >Terminal st
Thomas Reed
what you're referring to as "the terminal" is, in fact, a terminal emulator running a shell that executes a large collection of file management programs
Jaxson Flores
It's shorthand, you autist. > that executes a large collection of file management programs You don't need anything more than the GNU core utilities.
Cameron Sullivan
>debian >thunar >dash >i3 >nano >vim >firebloat
>minimalist
Ethan Morris
How is Artix? It doesnt get mentioned much around. Also try sxiv instead of feh.
>You don't need anything more than the GNU core utilities. This.
Ian Sanders
Firefox is anything but minimal wtf it takes like 45 minutes to debloat that shit
Aaron Stewart
But with what can I post on Jow Forums
Logan Myers
It's pretty good for what it sets out to do. They fuck up more than Arch, but nothing you can't deal with. I'll check out sxiv, never tried it.

I wish I had the resources/knowledge to design my own FORTH in hardware, implement a minimalist boot system, bootstrap a custom FORTH-based OS, and build my own environment to suit my needs.
Luis Price
% equery s vim * app-editors/vim-8.0.1298 Total files : 16 Total size : 2.42 MiB
Nigga you sure I can post in this mongolian cartoon forum with that?
Christopher Watson
Great. Another stupid nigger writing a MINUMUL guide showing off his l33t haxxor terminal programs. Here's why you're a fucking monkey. >debian is not minimal >gentoo is not minimal >no linux based os is minimal - >mpv is not minimal, it does 6000000 things. >cmus uses gstreamer garbage, absolutely not minimal >"file managers" are not minimal, use the shell - >there's nothing wrong with bash you dumb nigger >dwm ok >i3 is not mimunuml, it's a while software suite with a shitload of deps - >feh is not only a shit image viewer that dumbs shitty dotfiles all over your directories, but it's also not mimimul, since it wants to set your shitty pedo wallpaper too. >vim is no where near fucking minimal, and that's a good thing, neither is nano. if you weren't a dumb faggot and put Vi there it would have been fine. - >lmao at the notion that any modern browser is miniulaksnflal especially the rust abomination that is fireshit. - >st is unusable in it's "minimul" form, and urxvt emulates terminals from decades ago.
LOOK HOW MEINIFASDFL MY DESKTOP IS GEEE. GIVE ME YOUS PLZ
and lacking 99% of the features that ranger has. fuck off
Adam Martinez
that's sources your stupid fuck
Carson Lewis
>>there's nothing wrong with bash HA!
Jackson White
tell me whats wrong with bash
Connor Green
Slow as fuck.
Samuel White
prove it
Alexander Russell
It's common knowledge.
Austin Gonzalez
Calm down OP is obviously an underage snowflake who wants to feel special and instead of dyeing his hair blue chose to use his limited technology knowledge to be different.
If you use a GUI you already break a minimalist concept, because you already can do everything without one.
Daniel Ramirez
Yeah, OP seems like a Luke Smith viewer.
Michael Powell
that's the combined size of all files installed by the vim package
Ayden Stewart
Hi, it's that user again. Without feh, what do I use to set my wallpaper?
Benjamin Evans
emacs is the ultimate minimalist operating system
Jose Torres
Wallpapers are bloat, as is X. It is purposefully not minimalist.
Share your Makefile/port for ungoogled-chromium then.
Levi Jackson
You're thinking of Artix.
Ryder Moore
Arch is bloat. Initial install is relatively minimalist but once you start installing software it pulls a lot of unnecessary dependencies and you end up with a very bloated system.
Brandon Lopez
Artix brakes too often.
Also it's still systemd distribution. Ot uses elogind which is still systemd instead of consolekit2.
Also systemd-dummy so they can be lazy and keep systemd dependencies.
The project has no future.
Luis Cook
Arch aims for simplicity, not minimalism. As such, if you install a certain library, not only will you get the binaries, but you'll also get the headers, documentation, etc. It's simpler this way, but it's not minimal.
Angel Bennett
>vim >Gentoo >Urxvt >i3 >Firefox Is this trolling?
Jose Campbell
What do you minimal autists use for image thumnail viewing and dragging? I like to keep spacefm open with all my shitpost images for drag&drop but I'm not sure if there is a better and lighter way of doing this.
Bloat distro and FM I guess but it's what I'm comfortable with and I don't feel like going for another round of distrohopping.
Caleb Jones
my install is very close to yours but it is >>OS arch linux >>DE/WM i3 might step over to dwm >>Video mplayer >>Music player cmus >>image viewer feh >>File Manager ranger and just terminal >>text editor nvim nano or regular vim >>Shell bash >>Web Browser qutebrowser firefox is bloat >>Terminal termite but i might step over to st
