I'm tired of university and all the theory. I just want a fucking job

/tired programmer general/ I guess
how's it going lads, are you gonna make it

why so hostile

Opposite here
I'm scared of the codemonkey life with no theory/problems to solve
Sounds like the blue collar life of a dev.

What's your problem, if you need something, skim through a book.

Nothing is stopping you from being a professional now and contributing to open source, doing freelance, or starting your own projects. You have more free time now than you will ever have for the rest of your working life. What I would give to be a lazy uni student again. lmao

iktf, I also got tired if all the theory, all the easy coding assignments etc. I'm just happy to have a job next year.

You are still in school, it hasn't even begun yet.

I was like you at first, then I started my first software dev job a few months ago, now I miss school. There are things that work asks me to do/figure out that aren’t well defined at all, and often times the solution is either extremely difficult
to find or outright impossible.

I dropped out twice and got a decently paying job instead. School isn't for everyone. I regret not getting a job sooner, since I just wasted time and money going to university.

It just gets worse once you get a programming job.

see

I'm tired of EE too user. I'm so sick of shit grades and failing classes. I just failed one of my required classes for a second time. I have no idea how I'll pass. If i fail it a third time then they'll kick me out

God I fucking wish I were doing EE right now. Being able to see the fruit of your labor. Come on, that's rich.

how the fuck are you failing, nigger.

>extremely difficult to find

You are supposed to do it yourself fag.

Don't get down fren, dispossession is temporary but a good qualification stays with you for life.
I graduated recently and I'm looking for work, companies/agencies won't even bother unless you've got the proper qualifications.

Attached: helperfren.png (700x700, 113K)

I haven't done anything that would show me the fruits of my labor anymore than programming would

Analog electronics is hard

If you find school tiresome wait until you actually get a real software development job.
>shitloads of meetings
>shitloads of red tape
>can’t fix that bug the way you want, customers would have to change their config or otherwise lift a finger, can’t have that
>at least it’s only 40 years of this

>You are supposed to do it yourself
lol, most companies don't give a shit, the only thing that matters is that it gets done.

Lmaopilled

>at least it’s only 40 years of this
If you're still a dev after 10 years, you're doing something wrong.

I guess, if you really want to get a job, go ahead ...
If you have the skills developed already, then it shouldn't be that hard to get hired. Almost 10% of developers have only secondary school diploma, check out the statistics: insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2018/#developer-profile-educational-attainment :)

Either way good luck!

>can’t fix that bug the way you want, customers would have to change their config or otherwise lift a finger, can’t have that

linus would fire your ass so fast your head would spin. you probably don't remember the dev who kept saying "but the mistake is in their code, so it's ok if i break shit that works". "no dumbass, we don't break userspace". "but they made a mistake". "are you fucking dense? WE DON'T BREAK USERSPACE".

which is why I love him and want to have his babby

CS is a scam. Get certs.

Same lmoa

So based and true. I am hyper-excited to work at my C++ projects 1-2 hours at night when my kids are asleep since in job I have to do what they want me to do...

Move into management or be some faggy “architect”? I’d like to keep my dignity.

Hella true!

Had the time of my life in college and now I'm having the time of my life working, making 6 figs

CS has been a great source of joy in my life. Maybe programming is just not for you

>lol, most companies don't give a shit, the only thing that matters is that it gets done.
I wish i could work like this.
Sometimes i have a balding faggot breathing on my neck inspecting every single fucking keystroke i do.

Your dignity vs higher salary, benefits and future prospects
hmm

Don't give up fren.
I'm EE too, it's very hard, I passed two classes this semester with 70s.
Analog Electronics is hard, but you need to really grind your ass to pass.
Make friends with classmates, organize study groups, put down the vidya and stay away from distractions if it helps you focus.

It doesn't matter what it takes, but you gotta pass. You can do this friend.
I may be a random poster on Jow Forums but I believe in you.

Good luck. :)

well what the fuck are you waiting for
just go out and get a job
working student or regular, who cares. Start interviewing. Get real world experience. Might even get some cucks who are going to pay for your further education (if not living the communist dream)

Who cares about fucking Linus? Seriously? His kernel has an order of magnitude more vulnerabilities than BSDs'

>be me
>trying to learn web dev on my own
>get stucked at css
>saw somewhere web dev is the easiest branch of programming
>felt like a motherfucking brainlet
>cant find motivation to keep going

what the fuck anons. im feeling like a total failure. how do you find motivation to keep going?
im not sure about "everybody can do it"

Same. The only time I really enjoy coding anymore is before and after work but it's tough and you have to fight your fatigue from working all day. I found mornings (5-7AM) to work best for me but likely to be more difficult with kids.

Do not get a job in tech. I'm trying to warn you . Switch majors if you can. I regret computer science so much

Actually, I've been web developing for over a decade and CSS is still something I struggle with when I occasionally have to deal with it. There's not enough logic and more just "weird shit that is a certain way because it is, now memorise it and work within the limitations". Fuck CSS!

What the FUCK is wrong with you
CSS people learn for a few hours and make projects in a week.

Why do you regret it so much?

Worthless dehumanizing field that is cancer to humanity. I was completely dissatisfied because all I came out knowing was computer bullshit and because I actually paid attention in class I realized technology was God awful and I hate tech development. It's worthless and feels more like money laundering. Having to fake it with my shill professors was horrible. I'd rather be unemployed than participate in that "industry ". You have to be evil or blind to work in tech

>saw somewhere web dev is the easiest branch of programming
lol no, unless you're just shitting out cookiecutter business websites with contact forms. designing a good website is a complex undertaking because you have a lot more concerns to handle, like presentation.
Compare that to writing a linux application. Just shit out and random alphabet soup for your program and make sure all your optional parameter shortcuts are as far removed from their meaning as possible and you'll have a shield of 1 million neckbeards protecting you from anyone complaining about it being hard to use.

This unironically for every career

based, woken and blackpilled

this will trigger all the techfags

>the job is even less fun than the uni
>if you feel tired of smart professors now just wait until you have someone above you with no comprehension of what you're doing
>no one at uni was as dumb as the people you will be with at work
>mandatory meetings that waste time
>powerpoints with stockphotos
>half the office will be "administrative" and although they make more money than you they contribute nothing to the actual project, they just get paid to run an office
>look back on uni as some of the happiest all nighters, the best, most meaningful work ever done with clear goals and growth
>today the work doesn't matter
>if our company doesn't do it another identical one will
>they will make you train your replacement for a few months before they lay you off for a younger cheaper worker

working a cs job is worse then physical labor cause at those jobs you're not expected to take it home with you and keep up with all the new trash picking techniques and software that change every other month along with trying to pick up other marketable computer skills for when you get fired becausdface it
you fell for propaganda that goes as far back as the 80s to get more drone like programmers in
no salary is worth losing everything. if you got soul or hobby then you shouldn't do cs.
stop browsing Jow Forums, stop browsing lainchan.
these people are evil they want to kill you . or they are too young for their college advice to have merit.

find something else
if you like building things there are way more crafts out there that not only get you respect but grant physical satisfaction

and remember

"liking computers " is not enough to dedicate your entire fucking life to something . especially in 21st century. don't take the cheap way out because thinking is hard. for your own happiness and the future of society, do not study cs.

Nothing wrong with architects, they're still developers

Lie

Basically seems pointless no matter what you learn at uni you will probably forget most of it/have to relearn it again anyway if your not using it all the time so if you have the basics just go for it.

Well, the grass isnt greener anywhere else. Either lie and be like the bosses/marketers fighting your consciousness, 0r keep at it and curse the ppl that dont understand you.

Nothing stopping me except 30+ hours of work a week on top of classes and exercise

Shit man I got 2 years of comp sci left please say you're exaggerating

Attached: 53124.jpg (1280x765, 205K)

Not him, but that's true for quite a few places.
I first job out of university was like that, and I hated the work aspect of it. It's soul-crushing to be working on something which you know is objectively terrible, but the higher-ups are too stupid to acknowledge or realise it.
After getting too sick of that shit, I managed to get a remote job working with open source software in a very specialised field (which I find interesting). It's fucking great.

Basically, good jobs do exist out there.

It seems like you're more dissatisfied with corporate life under capitalism more than anything else. Programming is pretty enjoyable by itself but doing it for some degenerate boss as a means for survival in this hell world isn't fun, though not much is.

I don't think programming is enjoyable at all but maybe I'm just too dumb . Math proofs and CS theory are way easier and more intuitive. I hate programming and had to cheat for most of it. I hate how programming changes the thinking process and how my classmates changed in personality as they did more

This is 100% true. And it's actually worse.

>how's it going lads, are you gonna make it
I hate companies and all this agile scrum bullshit.
This is why I chose to make a phd

I enjoy building things but I hate the idea that I'm just making those above even richer, when the only "skill" they have is how much they can scam other people to come up with ideas and do all the work for them. And worse, they can just drop you or can your project at a minutes notice and keep you totally in the dark. Seriously fuck the corporate world, it's just awful and soul destroying.

I highly recommend you try Haskell.

>I don't think programming is enjoyable at all but maybe I'm just too dumb . Math proofs and CS theory are way easier and more intuitive
Problem solving and seeing your hard work manifest itself right in front of you is something I find enjoyable. Being easy or hard though isn't really a good argument either way.
>how my classmates changed in personality as they did more
What do you mean by this?

The only good thing about university was water polo. Never used a single "skill" I learned in uni at work.

I gave it a shot and hated it
I wasn't saying it's easy or hard.
Programming is like attending university . It gives the false sensation of accomplishment and progress so you can feel comfortable doing fucking nothing.
It fundamentally changes how you think and talk and honestly makes you inhuman. I can tell who the programmers are in online communities in good accuracy just from their style. It's like being able to spot people raise on the Internet

Not really sure what you're talking about as I haven't noticed this, maybe it's something else though that encompasses people in STEM or whatever.
Personally, I don't think my personality when interacting with my friends has changed much before and after programming. From what I remember at least, I was always argumentative and straightforward.

>not enjoying university before become a codemonkey
if you cant enjoy the life in the university when you get a job your life dont gonna get bettter

This is very true depending on which uni you go to. At ETH Zürich you don't get any real free time all year except for 3 weeks off in the summer and 1 in the winter.

Eh the soft skill and ethics classes in final year were okay.

Dude, i got a webdev job after being unemployed for YEARS, because i was waking up every morning, printing some resumes and going out looking for a job.

My only advice to you is: Don't wait for things to happen, apply to as many jobs as possible, talk to people, network, don't be shy or lazy.

If you want results, you'll have to work hard for it. I didn't want to wake up in the morning, take the bus and beg for a shitty blue collar job at a supermarket, but my desire to get paid and be able to afford stuff was stronger than my desire to stay at home playing videogames.

>It's soul-crushing to be working on something which you know is objectively terrible
This so much. First job out of uni I take over some other faggot who quit's project. A project which my boss thinks is super amazing but the people who will be forced to use it don't want it at all.
Worst of all its fucking webdev even though the advert specifically stated that they were looking for a C programmer.
