lol (((DAV1D)))

Oh great I can't wait for another format that zero devices have hardware decoding support so that only very modern x86 systems can decode without frameskipping.

*sends viewing history by default*
*has chromecast one-click broadcast to family TV by default*
*doesn't have hardware acceleration for 4K mp4/mkv movies
*uses 30% CPU usage to play 4K movies*
*can't save keybinds to a settings file*
*12 year old bug that causes a 3 second delay between closing VLC and the program actually closing still exists*

FUCK VLC fucking normie shit that's not even good

MPC-BE or GTFO

>Miscellaneaous
>>Improve ChromeCast

ugh, this is why i stopped using VLC. I don't want to have a fucking 1-click cast button that doesn't use any authentication or confirmation before blasting my porn onto family TV

same reason why i stopped useing chrome and the same reason why im gonna stop useing android soon aswell

*blocks your path*

lol mpv has had libdav1d support for months

>DAV1D
isnt that shit already out of spec because of the changes hardware makers shoved into the spec deprecating v1.0?

>Not using PotPlayer
Do you even live?

av1 is still buggy, even on mpv.

vlc just werks

>*has chromecast one-click broadcast to family TV by default*
Why is that a bad thing?

is this an actual question?

Yes. Seems handy. I've used it a bunch of times. What's wrong with having that feature?

>av1 is still buggy, even on mpv
that's expected considering nobody uses the codec yet...

>dav1d been in mpv for months
no joke. but VLC team does do fantastic jobs on x264 etc

heres the video i was playing/testing

nyaa.si/view/1100805

this thing plays nicely on my 2200G with latest mpc-hc (windows machine). drops frames on my 2700X+1050ti on linux with a master build of mpv right now.

>linux
found your problem

he doesn't want his family to see his hentai homo rape movies

Jesus, so the issue with that is that it's too convenient?

yep

yaaaaaaaaaassss

wat

Wtf you on about? You have to select the render device from a submenu. 3 fucking clicks and then there is a certificate popup.

>AV1
Has hiroshimoot even supported VP9 yet?

Attached: 3462.jpg (800x534, 86K)

No. We'll always have to stick to VP8 it seems.

no

>can't greentext
>normie
piss off dweeb

Move out, you neet

>newfags don't know mpv has had dav1d for months

I've been able to play 4k for a while now

So much butthurt in one OP. Oh and mpv has had dav1d for over a month. mpv = mvp

I'm fine with that as long as he raises the file size limit but he won't.

sell me av1, I have 200gb of porn that I'd like to compress down, how much space I could save, is this worth while at this time or is av1 too early in development at this point

mpv has dav1d retard. It's had it for months.

Why can I see Artist - Title in the status bar for radio streams like stream.r-a-d.io/main.mp3 in VLC 2.2.2 but VLC 3 doesn't show shit?

Can anyone actually explain why vlc does this?

Attached: 1483729511660.png (1280x720, 1.23M)

Way to early. Wait until they come up with an encoder that actually operates at a reasonable speed.

it's a fucking GUI program
>Are you sure you want to sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root

>reasonable speed.
so how slow is it? I don't know what's avaliable but i have 4790k and 1080 ti for reference

Ludicrously slow. Like 3000 times slower (i.e. it will literally take you days to encode something). This article is old, but as far as I'm aware, it still applies.
streamingmedia.com/Articles/News/Online-Video-News/AV1-Beats-VP9-and-HEVC-on-Quality-if-Youve-Got-Time-says-Moscow-State-122945.aspx

I tried downloading ffmpeg and using av1 compression, I get 0.3 fps compression rate, not 3000 times slower like article claims but it looks like it'll take 100x longer than source file to complete compression, so yeah that seems rather slow.

Why do people even try to compete with mpv?

To troll the mpv evangelists.

>Bluray improvements
How the FUCK do you even play blurays on a computer? I just can't do it. I went to that who is my nigger's site and it doesn't work. How do you guys get it to work?

Assuming Windows:
1. Download MakeMKV
2. Go to the MakeMKV forum and get the free registration key
3. Install and "register" MakeMKV
4. Copy/paste C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\libmmbd64.dll to the directory containing vlc.exe or mpv.exe twice
5. Rename one copy to libaacs.dll and the other copy to libbdplus, dll
6. Blurays now literally just work

Alternatively, just use MakeMKV to rip the disc to an .mkv.

12 year old bug? what bug tell me!

>raises the file limit
if recent changes to the json api indicate anything, the file limit will get reduced.

What are you going to replace android with?

VLC 3.x is shit, can't even save live AAC streams. I'm stuck with 2.2.8 which might be dated, but at least works.

Yeah, the article is almost a year old. That's a very long time for a new codec.
Wait until they established multi-threading beyond the tile-based one. You might also want to follow the progress of rav1e. They are the ones mainly focusing on encoding speed improvements.

lrn2read retard

How do you create the "sudo..." text's monospace, black-on-white effect?

test qwrryiggfserhhj

I've been ripping blurays since the start but I can't get this simple thing to work.

Tried it just now with Children of Men: Holy shit. You're a genius. I have never in my life played a bluray disk directly. I'll probably keep ripping them though.
