I just picked up a nice little Timex for $40. I'm liking it so far but I'll have to see how it holds up. Hopefully the glass is thick enough not to shatter easily like my previous one. The buckle on it is plastic but the watch itself is metal glass. I can always replace the strap with something better if needed.

i did the same when i got into watches. I got three inexpensive watches (my first was a timex expedition too) and I tought it would be enough. But now that i have three 200+$ watches (all gifts), i never ever wear the other ones anymore. You can see and feel why they are cheap and i regret buying them instead of going for a 150-180 seiko or something a little better.

Honestly it's kind of annoying but I don't really use apps all that often to be too bothered by it and really just like wearing a watch that can push notifications from my phone. There doesn't seem to be a great replacement for Pebble on the market but this was closest with the always visible time and semi-decent battery

Shame Samsung doesn't do the 42mm Galaxy Watch in stainless. Not a fan of black cases, pink is right out, and 46mm (which DOES come in stainless) makes you look like a tryhard douchebag and is ridiculously huge if you wear business casual on a daily basis like I do.
