Usb-C is the future! You can do everything on USB-C! In the future, all other ports will be obsolete!

Nobody said it was going to happen overnight, user. Calm your Aspergers.

>REEE I KNEW IT, IT'S BEEN 20 MINUTES AND PEOPLE ARE STILL USING THEIR TYPE A DEVICES. IT WAS ALL JUST A CON

I use usb c on my phone and my macbook pro and i liie it

Who cares what Applel thinks

My Xperia XZ1 has USB-C, my Thinkpad T480 has two of those ports even, my portable SSD has it, all mainboards in the house have it. It's only gonna get better, too bad if you can't handle a dongle here and there or if your iShit has nothing but USB-C.

There are still old timers out there who use USB-A? Holy shit.

inb4 satania

It's been 3 years faggot, USB 3 didn't take that long to be adopted.

I was skeptical about USB-C until I bought a new laptop that came with 3 USB-C ports.
It handles power, audio, video, and data. It's fucking incredible.

Everything should be USB-C.

Because USB 3.0 worked with USB 2.0. Can't say the same about USB-C. Most people have tons of stuff that works with 2.0 or 3.0, so why use C?

>power, audio, video, and data
Wow, much like USB-A!

>being this retarded
I can't tell if this is bait or not

USB-C had so much potential but the voltage issue just ruins the whole fucking thing. I need a separate charger for my MacBook Pro, my Nintendo Switch and my phone because none of them have compatible voltages. What a joke.

>USB is the future! You can do everything on USB? In the future, all other ports will be obsolete!

>USB is still irrelevant
What did Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, and Nortel mean by this

Thats because the manufacturers are retarded and violate the spec

if you use a thunderbolt 3 dock you can do charging/usb-c/usb 3/display port/hdmi/ethernet (and many others) with 1 cable from the laptop

USB C is for plebs. Wifipenis is the future.

BASED

>new PC has dedicated USB c slots
>Nintendo Switch uses USB C
>Phone uses USB C

Wow look I solved the problem by not being a fucking idiot and ignoring Apple's garbage dongle ecosystem

>video over A
no

except 2 of those devices you mentioned still use USB A.
The real problem here is the lack of affordable USB C storage devices and accesories

based

dumbass the future is already here theres new technology out by razer which allows you to plug in a full super high-end pc gaming graphics card into any device with a usb-c thunderbolt 3 port, theoretically including even fucking macs

>new technology
I didn't know external GPU enclosures still counted as new tech. Those have been a thing for years now.

have PC cases started implementing it yet?
One of the problems as I see it is although MOBOs include it, front I/O is more relevant.

if we can transition between different Type B form factors then Type C is only a little bit more difficult.

HDMI released in like 2002, and there are still new TVs that have composite ports. There are still sound bars with Tos Link ports and/or digital coax ports.

A transition takes a lot of time. Not to mention, right now, USB-C is a fucking mess.

iPhone has had reversible cables since 2012

Attached: 01-INTRO.jpg (1600x1600, 89K)

Usb c is fine, dongles are absolute cancer.

Attached: standards.png (500x283, 24K)

Yeah. It's not like that's ever not been the case. Like maybe HDMI.

I am personally quite upset by USB-C.
I mean, why are there even USB-C 2.0 cables? Let alone them making up the majority of cables.
USB 2.0 should be dead. It was hanging on with microUSB because microUSB3.0 was a non-backwards compatible abomination but with USB-C there's literally no excuse.
And then there's the whole business of resistor values in the USB-C cable making things more complicated.

>USB2.0
Lightning was a fucking joke.
Also companies made reversible USB-A and microUSB cables within the last five years, too.

USB-C is a fucking mess right now, and for the life of me, I genuinely can't understand why companies implementing it won't get their shit together.

Well, is a bit of a mess:

Autists think it really is this cool to spout the same meme at the same stimulus.

I thought I could use the same charger since my phone, switch and even my laptop had USB C. But my phone charger will barely touch my laptops battery ol

Well, you can use the high voltage cablese on low voltage devices. You'll just probably destroy the port.

Wasn't Apple promoting FireWire at that point?

>i'm a retard, please ignore me
lightning has no inner part which can broke like in microusb or usb-c
also it's much thinner

>high voltage cables
What the fuck did he mean by this?

They didn’t ship FireWire standard until the next year, and they hoped to push it for high speed data transfer. USBs place was for lower speed stuff like keyboards and printers. But USB 2.0 came along and was “good enough” for most people.

>can't figure out how to make actually reversible connectors so include a much more expensive chip that detects which way up it is
can't make this shit up

>include a much more expensive chip that detects which way up it is

what?

you heard me
the connector isn't actually reversible, the chip inside detects which way up it's plugged in, and redirects the electricity flowing through the cable

Took you long enough you wanker, now go kill yourself

based

>power
not enough to charge a laptop
>audio
not analog but fair point
>video
with an external shitty GPU embedded into the dongle, and not with multiple screens at higher video modes
>data
You'll be lucky to get 10Gbps, with TB3 you can do 40Gbps. Also no external PCIe memes.
Now do all of that on a desktop or laptop, and then most of it (everything other than TB3 really) on your phone, with the same cable.

And still you replied and completely ignored the issue

I'm increasingly being able to charge my usb-c devices more easily than my micro-usb devices. Phones die so quickly micro-usb and lightning devices are getting phased out quick.

USB2 is cheap and there's no real reason my keyboard + mouse have to use a usb3 connection.

Well that and the fact Apple can sell a license to vendors that want to use it's super special chip ensuring that they even take a cut from 3rd party cables

>micro-USB is universal amongst non-apple users
>apple still holds firm on its own charging port to jew money from dongles
>USB C and further derivatives arrive
>become universal port for non-apple gadgets
>apple to lightning
>apple drops lightning to USB C
>SEE GUISE THE WHOLE INDUSTRY FOLLOWS APPLE WOW

I hadn't even considered that, apple truly are scum

It's the android phone of USB cables. wow

USB-C would unironically start appearing in all sorts of portable electronics if Apple drops Lightning for it. Headphones, flashlights, power banks, if it has a USB port it'll be USB-C.

Citation.

Power line is constant, function of other lines can be dynamically reassigned.
