Thinking about swapping my S8 out for a Oneplus 6t, mostly because Samsung isn't pushing any android updates out to it, my model has no way of rooting/flashing roms, and it has non-removable samsung and t-mobile botnets installed Does that sound like a good choice?

No. Curved screen, glass back, locked down bootloader without top of the line stock software. Still the strongest contender for phone of the year imo. If you're in the US, I wouldn't recommend it.

No idea, I do use my phone a decent amount for work emails, shitposting, and group chats, nothing excessive though. If I'm near a computer (and I usually am) I just use that for pretty much everything. I rarely text people.

I seriously think this is one of the most underrated phones of all time. The only thing LG messed up was not putting the Hi-Fi DAC in all of them.
It does seem like a pretty bad case with your phone. I've had a few amoled phones and they're all fine even after years of use. I expected a bit more progress towards oled longevity in the past few years. My note 4 has no issues but I'd be pissed if I had burn in on a note 8/9.

Samsung is slow with updates. Back in the S6 days, I got the latest android on my N6 immediately while my cousin with his S6edge had to wait till March or something.
I usually disable the bloatware apps that come with the phone.
The 6T will be an upgrade, but you'll lose the 3.5mm jack. Just compare the 2 side by side and see what you stand to gain and lose.

I have no experience with any custom roms since I never used one. Always went for stock android with Nexus and now a O+5T.
I'd suggest looking for a phone in your budget with decent specs and then looking for popular roms on it.
