mpv is actually better then VLC at streaming videos. Youtube-dl+Mpv gives you a far greator control of your online videos then you can with VLC. For you can control what resolution youtube will be stream to your MPV.

Also VLC is much slower then Mpv at startup and application speed.

with vlc, you can stream videos via terminal with the command "vlc ". is something like this possible with mpv without a concatenating commands?

Why is it so bad with twitch? I have no problem watching 1080p 60fps in the browser, but it buffers as hell in the mpv.

do you have ffmpeg installed and in your PATH? it's used to mux audio and video streams in case you're using bestvideo + bestaudio in youtube-dl

Forgive this maybe stupid question but when I try to play a youtube video in mpv by dragging the url to it, mpv automatically shuts down. Any reason as to what can be causing this? I'm using win10, have the latest Python and mpv is up to date. Thanks in advance

Huh, odd timing seeing this. Just yesterday I wrote a script which takes a pasted Jow Forums thread url, curls the Jow Forums api, and adds all the images/webms to a playlist.

Is it possible to have mpv's youtube-dl backend write both to mpv's decoder and a file? I want to keep an offline history of files I've watched via youtube-dl as content gets removed from the web all the time. Keeping the last ~100 gigs seems like a good idea.

I ask some threads ago and didn't get help, does anyone knows how to make QTGMC vapoursynth work as a filter for mpv?

MPV seemingly crashes KDE when it goes fullscreen. It won't exit full screen mode without the movie ending, and afterward KDE does not function correctly until I restart.

What have you tried already? What GPU and drivers? Try x11-bypass-compositor=fs-only
Also try different gpu-context mpv.io/manual/master/#options-gpu-context settings. What settings do you use?

Go to ~/.config/mpv/ and make a file called mpv.conf , if there isn't one already. Every setting needs a new line, don't add the leading -- if you're copying from the manual, those are for the terminal.
