Impressive, I can only hope that network in Australia could be 1/10th as good.

not bad, sadly my ISP only offers symmetrical 100 or gigabit.

500/100 is fine, no? Or are there zero plans in-between / upload speeds lower than 100?

who /uploadgang/ here

I had a 100/4 just last year. now sitting at more comfy 120/12, but it's still dogshit
at least it's cheap

they have 300/300 as well, but it's priced stupidly due to the their bundle deals for gigabit.

>fastest speed is 70 mbps where I live
JUST

I do, comcast can suck my dick I'm not giving them more money

Attached: wraw.png (796x144, 16K)

i've been debating cuckcast since they have 2gbps fiber available here, but they want $300/month for it now, when they first brought it here it was only $150/month.

Guess i'll just wait for it to get cheaper, or wait for my own ISP to upgrade their shit to support greater than 1gbps speeds.

That's a 23x multiplier versus a 35x multiplier. Its actually less slanted towards upload.

Good luck with a custom router for 2Gbps. Pretty much need an Edgerouter SFP+ unless you want to break the bank or split your connection into two separate 1Gbps circuits (if you have two IPs).

true but 6mbps is much more limiting that 20mbps

>Good luck with a custom router for 2Gbps
yeah I know, comcast provides a Juniper SFP+ switch on-site that hands off an SFP+ at 2gbps and a 1GbE both with their own IP addresses

Most people just use the 1GbE handoff, or they buy a router with SFP+ WAN and 1GbE LAN.

Cheapest way to get more than 1gbps to a client is with a custom PFsense or similar box. Running a used SFP+ NIC for WAN, and a dual or quad port 10GbE NIC for LAN.

My main desktop already has a 2.5gbps integrated NIC, and I can buy used 10GbE NICs for my other devices, or even a brand new 2.5/5 GbE NIC for like $60.

Would cost around $600 total. Still expensive, but not terrible.

You know for some reason I thought there was a cheaper 10Gb-capable edgerouter but holy shit you're right. I guess the most cost-effective thing would be a virtualized router on the same VM-host as your other fun shit.

Yeah I was hoping they'd update some of their lower end hardware with better CPUs and maybe some 2.5/5GbE capability for people who don't need 10gbps, but still want better than 1gbps.

This is pretty fast for my area.

I suspect the 2.5/5 PHY is actually more expensive than 10Gb since 10Gb has been around longer. I only see multi-gig on insanely expensive equipment that costs more than pure 10Gb stuff.

lol and I don't even live in australia

Sometimes feels good to be in Italy
1000/100 for 25€/month

It's possible i guess, but currently buffalo offers some multi-gig 1/2.5/5/10gbe switches for around $500-600 for 8 ports. And $800-900 for the 12 port.

You'd think unifi would have SOME products in a similar position, but the closest thing they have would be the unifi Switch 16 XG, with 12 10Gbps SFP+ ports and 4 10GbE ports for $600.

Most people in the consumer space would rather have 8 multi-gig ethernet than 12 SFP+ and 4 10GbE.

Unifi needs to step it up.

They released a smol boye ... for the same fucking price.

lol yeah fuck that, especially since for 2.5 and 5gbps NICs it'll probably auto negotiate to 1gbps.

Shame for $250-350 that'd be great.

Australia my boys.

w-w- what?

Attached: the devils here.jpg (728x546, 127K)

probably a gigabit connection thats congested.

On gigabit fiber, the download speed is by FAR the easiest to use, so if you split a GPON 2.4/1.2gbps connection with 32-64 or even 128 different users in some cases.

If you get 64 people all streaming and downloading, that 2.4gbps is quickly eaten into. But the upload is most likely barely being used.

Not very lopsided at all.

My internets retarded too.

>download
>used by normies living near you
>upload
>only used by IT hobbyists / youtubers when they finish a video / twitch fags

I pay for 150 down with 5 up :/

Bell Canada does something similar (sfp+ fiber terminal with 2Gbps) but they provide a tri-band router as well. You can't use your own box or 10gbpe but it does pair bonding, for what it's worth.
I guess it's ok if you have a lot of desktops.

Sorry my local city government installed symetrical fiber to the home. Currently enjoying my gigabit for $60 a month in the grand old USA

Enjoy having Trump take it away if he gets reelected. The Republicans already made it illegal going forwards.

The legality of munipical ISPs is a state issue. Our state supreme court ruled it legal specifically because our city fought the big ISPs. Its a big success story actually

This is considered a fast connection here in Ausfailia
