combo breaker?

My t42 was my first laptop. I used to hug it when I was lonely. It would get warm and the fan would spin up so it was like someone was really there with me. It was also my first Linux laptop. I tried so many different OSes. For a long time it was my only friend and later it helped me make friends. I got into hacker culture and irc, downloaded my first torrent, found Jow Forums, and learned my first programming language.

That sounds cute desu. x200 was the first laptop I owned and actually liked. Before that was just toshiba shit. Clacking around on it right now, super cozy.

seems like replacement keyboards for the e580 e585 and l580 dont exist yet, at least in jap. shame

Am I just imagining things or is it easier to find the T450s with a 1080p IPS screen compared to the T450? I'm looking at upgrading from my X230 and a 1080p IPS screen is a must, but I'm having a hard time finding the T440, T440s or T450 with a 1080p IPS screen, so the T450s looks like my only choice for my budget.

are you a trap?

are you new?

Does anyone know where I can buy a slice battery for the x60 as pictured here?
I can't find any for sale.

Attached: reddit_user's_thinkpad.jpg (1024x768, 75K)

No, traps are cute, CUTE and fem. Not like this faggot.

no, I know perfectly well who he is, I was making a joke

About a month ago I spilled some water on my T510. I dried it out a bit - not overnight - and it worked after that except for some of the keys not working or showing incorrect symbols or letters. Now the Thinkpad doesn't WOR at all, not even powering on. The light at the back is lit, indicating it has power, but when I press down the power button it lights but the system doesn't power on. I have removed the ram and battery and pressed the power button before replacing everything and pressing it again, but there has been no success in getting the thinkpad to turn on. So, I guess what I am wondering is: presuming the system board is fried, should I simply replace it or should I buy a whole new thinkpad? I'd like to be able to re-use the 1080p screen I got for this one if I were to buy a new one.

Ofc he is...

Now I'm the retard

I use a Performance MX. It's a tad on the bulky side for travel, but the size is worth it.

good taste, user; it's actually her birthday today (jan 1st) if you didn't know

Attached: Mxz5Yrq.jpg (937x1171, 102K)

What thinkpad has the best battery life?

Oh, niiice. I would tingle her pussy till the end of lenovo. And then? Then I'd fuck her holding my brave thinkpad x201 in my arms.

Jesus, the X230 can be had for like $150 or less in great condition right now, that's crazy cheap considering that the CPU performs basically on par with all the shitty low voltage dual core CPUs Intel released

I wish AMD would have gotten their shit together sooner, because it's only now that we're seeing significant improvement in performance with the i5 8250U

Guys I might grab a x220 to install mac os on to mess around a bit, then when I get bored of it I'll coreboot it.

I know this guide gets recommended a lot:
>x220.mcdonnelltech.com/

But is there a certain processor I should look for in auctions? Or anything specific hardware differences between models I have to watch out for?

From the last thread. Picked up a T430. Will upgrade the RAM shortly. Should I do a slice battery and ultrabay battery? Will they work together? Also not keen on the keyboard replacement. What all should I do?

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into it. I think I've used a friends once. I like the bulkyness of it.

I'm about to become a truck driver. Should I buy an X230 for the road?

My T430 battery is charging super slowly. Do I need to change the charger ? Can I buy it at aliexpress ?

If it's a 9 cell and you're using a 90W charger (the small one that comes with it), then it's normal fren

T430 here
9 cell main battery
9 cell second battery
3 SDD's (250 go samsung main, 250Go Toshiba msata, and 180 Go one in place of dvd reader)
classic T420 keyboard (didn't put tape on the pins YOLO and didn't flash the bios but all buttons are working except a few that have switched but usable)
1600x900 screen
i5 3340m, was going to change to an i7 quad core but ran short on cash (had to also buy the 130W or 170W power adapter, and replace fan/heatsink, so was going to be 200 euros more expensive, not worth it for my use case for java development on intellij)
16 Go ram
the whole thing cost me about 670 euros (bought the t430 and all the parts from ebay, I got lucky and everything worked quite well, I used a fingernail clipper to cut the keyboard metalic things to make it fit), desu I still don't know if I made the right choice of choosing this since there were thin asus zenbooks (not 100% sure about the name) on amazon for sale at 750 euros at the time I made this T430, but I like it so it's worth it.
It was a nice experience overall.

the T430 doesn't support an ultrabay battery fren, look at this describes the most you can mod, you can also put in a full hd ips from china but it's expensive and the tutorials are in chinese and you can easily get scammed

Is there some kind of hatred or dislike of T520s I should know about? I love mine but I never see anyone posting or talking about theirs...

Cop or not as first thinkpad?
Or wait for a better deal to come up?
Also should I consider non IPS screens aswell or are they too shit?

You don't wear shoes inside, do you?

Where can I get super cheap thinkpads, apart from the obvious (ebay, gumtree etc). I'm Australian and almost all good models are going for at least $200+ AUD, so I'm looking for something a little cheaper

Attached: mglol.jpg (600x400, 74K)

Is there a noticeable difference between the X230 with i5-3210M and i5-3320M?

measurable yes, noticeable no

So paying more for an X230 with i5-3320M isn't worth it?

I'd say no unless the difference is something like 5$

I didn't know the X230 even came with the 3210M.

Got a T420 this month. Came with a SSD which is cool. Very happy with it, it's great especially for the price I paid. Bought a 9cell battery that plugs into the docking port, it and the 6cell give me roughly around 8 to 10 hours of battery life. Pretty good, except this one guy claimed it gave him 14-15 hours of battery life with "moderate power management" (whatever that means). Likely one of these batteries is wearing out and shortening the life span it could have in full health, and that guy might have just been doing a lot more power management to extend the battery life.

I've been using a IPS monitor on my desktop for a while and the thinkpad really showed me how ass TN panels can be, because I'm constantly running the same programs and images on my thinkpad and desktop and seeing the huge differences side by side. Certain shades of colors you really don't see at all (e.g a specific shade of grey that has a very subtle brownish hue) and everything seems overly bright with an abnormally high contrast and horrible darkness display. If you tilt it back just right the darkness and contrast issues improve a bit (due to how TN panels are when you change the angle). It's not something I can't live with but seeing it side by side constantly really makes it more in your face.

Should I disable SWAP if I use SSD?

???

Disable yourself.

Swap is for RAM not storage space...

I bought a nice x230 and it's awesome. The only problem is that I am very sensitive to flicker and I can see the screen flickering in low-brightness mode (I'm guessing the backlight turns on and off rapidly to do the dimming). Does anyone else have the same issue? Also wat do?

Attached: x230.jpg (620x400, 31K)

Because most of the heavy writing is done on the swap which effect the lifespan of the ssd?

did you try turning on the light in your room?

I've been thinking about this recently. I have a LED strip under my bed and if you record it with a phone camera you can see the light rapidly flickering. I noticed if I start to focus on it just right then I can vaguely see it with my eyes. Started thinking about all the stuff like that your eyes isn't perceiving. I started noticing the flickering on the thinkpad very vaguely too (especially when messing with brightness as you said). I wonder if that is specific to these types of TN panels or something.

I think it's because of PWM in the screen. Nothing can be really done, unless you change the panel.

lifespan of ssd is a meme which should be forgotten by now, you will never wear it out with normal usage

my new X220 boots in 5 seconds and idles on 90MB of RAM. I've achieved maximum comfy minimal

mfw

Attached: image.jpg (480x580, 96K)

Yes but I work/shitpost a lot in the evening and I like when the room is not so light.

Anyone here tried the TN for IPS panel swap on older thinkpads? How hard was it?

not so light doesn't mean that is has to be pitch dark, it's bad for your eyes

Not that user but I usually do lamps or LED strips, the atmosphere and level of immersion you get with soft glowing lights in the room is unbeatable, especially for anything creative or productive. Try to find that sweet spot where it's not pitch dark and but still has that night time neon glow atmosphere.
