So I've decided to try KDE again after using XFCE4 for probably something like a decade. KDE has clearly improved since the downfall with the release of the disaster that was KDE4 from it's height of glory at KDE 3.5. Plasma 5.14.0 seems comfy enough so I may use it for a while.
The obvious question now is: How do I rice it? What icon theme should I get, what window decorations, what fonts and so on? You must share with me how I can rice the KDE Plasma.
Fuck off you dumb faggot go buy 2kg rice package in a shop and cook your pubes with it
Dylan Green
fuckibg idiot ever bothered to run systemsettings5
Kde is the one single DE where you can spend months ricing just because of how much it actually offers (I hate that I want Gnomes UNIX approach but with KDE effects)
Brayden Scott
I am aware of systemsettings5, I have looked at it. What I am looking for is proposals for what I should do there, I'm sure the KDE Plasma won't end up looking good if I randomly change things.
>You must share with me how I can rice the KDE Plasma. >Still waiting for suggestions... absolute state of retarded boomers, expecting to get spoonfed. Kill yourself
Brandon King
kde has too many customization features. i can't find anything
That's pretty tasteful though it does look like a Mac? I seem to remember they look like that.
>install kvantum I have the kvantum installed. Now what? I also installed something called "Arc". It seems to be a all black theme. I'm not that dark, I see a red door but I don't want to paint it black. How do I use the kvantum to rice?
This is some good bait. How about you do your own research (I'm assuming here you're competent enough to operate a package manager and open duckduckgo). That or don't use a DE if you want to rice.
Austin Martin
It does look like a Mac, just because I like the top panel/bottom dock paradigm.Btw the top panel is actually Latte Dock, as is the bottom dock. Works for me.
John Ramirez
>Latte Dock store.kde.org/p/1169519/ looks interesting, specially the ability to have a custom special one for each "activity". Not that I'm all that into activities just yet, XFCE4 doesn't have them. I'm more used to virtual desktops. Guess it's meant to be used to be used the similarly? Instead of having a virtual desktop for e-mail and one for GIMP/Krita/image editing KDEs way is to have an "activity" for mail and another for image editing?
If you don't go crazy with it none of those have cons.
Docks are an anti-feature. With a dock on autohide you cant see all running applications with just a glance, their name or position. I used a dock for a decade until I realized that I didn't gain anything and used it for vain npc reasons.
Fair enough, but I don't use my docks on autohide. They are both set to dodge, and my screen is big enough to allow them to be visible unless I make a window full-screen.

love how everyone say this while ever kde desktop looks exactly the same
Angel White
are you kidding me? how exactly to thes look even remotely similar to you?
this, does kwin even support titlebars on the left and right of windows or tabbed windows any more? no better than gnome, shake my head
Bentley Morris
Unironically go to reddit (r/unixporn). You'll find plenty of godly rices, lately kde has increased a lot in popularity. You can already make something nice with stock settings and "normal" theming, but for something deeper Kvantum theme manager and Latte Dock are the standard.
Christian Wood
believe it or not user all of those plastic kpop idols are different people
Jack Baker
they're all the same flatshit with super similar window decoration, a transparent bar on top, and a dock. this one isn't even worth mentioning since the guy has no idea what hes doing
Connor Bell
Check the Installgentoo wiki. There's a page on ricing.
There's also #rice on Rizon.

>You must share with me how I can rice the KDE Plasma. The settings menu.
Lucas Brown
>flatshit It's just the trend Unfortunately I can't think of any DE where flatshit isn't the norm. >transparent bar and dock That's their CHOICE. I () can't fix shit taste.
Nibba just open your eyes and look at the finer details. No other DE is as customizable as KDE and you have to edit countless dot files to surpass it with a WM.
Workplaces are still useful and activities have a different purpose. Personally I use 3 activities and 2 workspaces (per activity).
I like liberation sans and noto. Lato and roboto are good too. Sizes 10-14 depending on preference and monitor. A serif font shouldn't be used for the desktop.
>Personally I use 3 activities and 2 workspaces (per activity). sounds reasonable.
>noto Thank you. Tried ricing my laptop with noto sans regular. It looks alright. Perhaps I should try it for a day or two and then try roboto for a day or two and see what's the most comfy
