1. Proprietary software isn't always superior to open source equivalents. GCC and Clang are widely regarded to be the best C compilers, and they're both free as in freedom. MSVC doesn't even support modern C standards, and the Intel C Compiler produces code that actually runs worse on AMD CPUs.

2. When proprietary software is superior, the primary reason is because it has more dedicated funding behind it. This reason can't be applied to walled gardens, since many operating systems that don't restrict their users also have sufficient funding.

Honestly, I don't know if there's a single good thing about an OS being a walled garden.
