GNU is a kernel of the Linux operative system, what you're mentioning, systemd, is the hardware it runs on

> Taking on an aspect of a thing means taking on all aspects
If you don't smoke you're literally a National Socialist.

yeah, GNU sux at this point idea. I don't see what's wrong with UNIX, actually, I find FreeBSD more sane that Linux/GNU

And? GNU is shit.

I don't like systemd for the same reason I don't like emacs. I don't need an OS to run my OS. Just like I don't need another OS to run my text editor.
GNU and systemd are both shit, use bsd.

>for not being unix, you have to do the exact opposite
kys, retard

Why did they remove init in the first place?

Damn, i better not smoke then

Because the systemd author is a fucking autistic retard who understands fuckall about system design.

Boot time.

what? they wanted to make it worse?

Pottering shilled systemd by promising faster bootimes among other things.
Distro maintainers don't really give a shit so they fell for it. "Because everyone else was doing it."

I thought they did it because boot management is cancer

Probably, but thats just another meme.
Systemd didn't make boot management better in userland. Just some sysadmins like it.

>Gnu
What does Linux stand for, and who gives a shit about gnu?

>system (red)D
>Ready!
SYSTEM READY!

Mmmm yes

GNU's Not Unix.
I use Arch, btw.

Linux stands for Linus' user experience.

Systemd does, try running it on a non-systemd system :^)

It's more like: Pottering is employed by Redhat. Redhat is the biggest Linux Developer in the commercial market. Naturally Redhat Enterprise Linux adopted systemd. All other Linux distros follow suit to not drift too far away from RHEL.

systemd is designated future technology. with wonderful feature and industry standard. who don't like it is retard.

>The Tragedy of systemd

This is going to be a fun talk at Linux.conf.au this year.

>Abstract
>systemd is, to put it mildly, controversial. As a FreeBSD developer I decided I wanted to know why.
>I delved into the history of bootstrap systems, and even the history of UNIX and other contemporary operating systems, to try and work out why something like systemd was seem as necessary, if not desirable. I also tried to work out why so many people found it so upsetting, annoying, or otherwise rage-inducing.
>Join me on a journey through the bootstrap process, the history of init, the reasons why change can be scary, and the discovery of a part of your OS you may not even know existed.

Garbage Nigger Utilities

The Unix philosophy is only good for prototyping. Once all the little pieces work, it's time to put them together into one big program.

Everything anyone needs to know about systemd:

Because GNU is not Unix doesn't mean it's against Unix.
GNU is bloat, though, but we have nothing better at the moment.

Wouldn't the Unix philosophy mean a microkernel should have been employed rather than a monolithic kernel?

Lennart man bad.

Redhat has more influence than most people realize which is why their auction price seemed absurd.
Together with IBM they dominate every aspect of Linux. From the kernel itself to userland (systemd, pulseaudio, gtk, gnome, networkmanager, etc.)
When Linus retires (is forced out) IBM/redhat will literally own it.

And that's a good thing.

I wouldn't mind it as much if
>systemd
>Pulseaudio
>Gtk
>Gnome
>NetworkManager
>D-bus
Weren't ALL shit

I swear everything Redhat touches turns to shit/is shit. Must be their heritage showing.

LOL wont fix

Based and redpilled, anything with a shit efi implantation deserves it.

>My hardware sucks, fix your software to make my hardware not suck.

You can just not mount it, mount it read only, or blacklist_modules=efivars in your fucking kernel command line.

Having it mounted read only isn't an issue unless you are fucking retarded.

>69166040
Retard

This is literally Windows thinking. Cope tripfag.

Windows can write EFI variables.
I don't follow your train of thought.

Fuck unix
NT/DOS everyday

NT/DOS can run Linux binaries and has better hardware support than UNIX so its not like your opinion is all that surprising.

>thing is broken
>"Y-you can fix it if you're not a retard!"
It shouldn't be broken in the first place

Literally every OS can write to EFI variables, it isn't broken.

Windows has bricked tons of EFI laptops by writing to EFI vars. It isn't a broken design, some EFI firmware is just garbage.

Reminder that all socialists are Nazis

The problem is they're mounted read/write by default.

Works for me.
Can't reproduce.

you're not going to make it

>copying my thread from yesterday
You're probably the sperg who was talking about that queer rogan who said the machines have a soul

Daily reminder anti systemd fags have never once presented a coherent argument not based solely on emotion and hating change.

>not wanting something to be corrupted by NSA is bad

Not an argument

You're a fucking brainlet, how is that not ab arguement, aside from the fact systemd is bloated to all hell . Have fun in cs 101 tomorrow kid

>m-muh bloat
>ad hominem
Interesting arguments

Shit isn't an argument systemd does an amazing amount of shit for being 15MB.

Checked

The irony.

what's the difference though

I doubt he is actually a systemd hater unlike many bsd zealot. Though for most people, linuxism the issue, not the software itself but for this thread and Jow Forums in general love to find scapegoats.

>systemd is an init

Attached: 1527374094329.gif (245x280, 1.3M)

I don't like systemd because it's shit software, period.
Whether it follows the Unix philosophy or not, I don't care.

Some American women are really cute.

Not being *just* an init is probably the main reason it's shit in the first place.

That's one of most important reasons why systemd is hated.

Not an argument

Fuck off, Lepart Pottering

serious question, do any of the other init systems """fix""" this?

Yes, literally none of them have or have ever had that problem. Only systemd.

What's the suggested alternative? OpenRC?
I have some time available this week and would be willing to try a different init system on my laptop

Some people like s6/runit, but I strongly dislike the way it works, especially since it infinite-loop-restarts anything that dies, which means, with X or a dm, needing to boot from a rescue disk to save yourself.
You can always try upstart over systemd. Same shit but not quite as trash. I don't have much experience with it.
OpenRC properly configured (e.g. parallel boot enabled) is really good. Stable, fast, and full-featured. It's the one I prefer.
Finally, you can try play sysvinit. Wouldn't recommend either.

However, keep in mind that unless you're using gentoo or slackware, the software on your platform will depend strongly on systemd and you might not be able to install anything (any optional systemd dependency will be turned on among other issues so even if the software has no real need for systemd, it will fail to install or crash at boot).

lmao

It's not UNIX, but it doesn't mean it's unlike UNIX retard.

Systemd made me switch back to Windows. Wasn't as bad as people said it would be.

what the fuck is wrong with you

Would be pretty funny

it's not the size, it's the amount of processes constantly running in the background, the countless vulnerabilities and unmaintainable clusterfuckery that it entails you fucking tripnigger
thanks giving me the motivation to import my filters cockbreath

The fuck is wrong with YOU!

Linux Is Not UniX

OpenRC user, currently considering switching to systemd as it's the future of linux whether i like it or not, so i should at least know my way around it. All I know is OpenRC.

Any reasons why i shouldnt except "fuck poeterring" ?

Chockfull of security vulnerabilities and exploits. Default behavior is to botnet the shit out of you, such as calling home to google without your permission. Buggy as fuck.

There you go.

unix philosophy is a meme, whoever is LARPing about it needs to stop wanking to richard stallman and dennis ritchie, and start looking at what people truly need, and that is a homogenous operating system that doesn't have developers telling me what I want for my desktop
