GIMP, Libre Office, and Inkscape are pretty top notch.

Anyway who uses Pidgin? Don't most people just use Steam anyway? Steam on Linux is good and getting better.

We don't care.

GCC is pretty good

It would be better if they didn't use retarded animal icons, but the free software is both free and free, so it wins out for me.

why do freetards suddenly love flat design
its fucking ugly and everyone is moving away from it
leave it up to freetards to be a decade behind tho

the nice thing about being a freetard is choice. if you like flat, there's flat. if you like glossy, there's glossy.

Your loss.

Krita has a decent icon. And cute mascot as a bonus.

Fuck off furryfag

Rude.

Idk I think the LLVM logo is pretty cool.

I like that gcc logo. I’d get it as a sticker even though I use clang.

No.

Nah, it's the programs behind the logos. Freetards don't seem to understand: you ALWAYS get what you pay for. Trying to say this is better than MS Office, that is better than Photoshop, something else is better than Windows, consistently blows up in their faces once people actually try their software. Only the stupid poorfags (who can neither pirate nor buy), the deliberate contrarians (that are difficult to market to because autism), and the 0.01% that open source is actually a selling point, stick around.

Why are you posting Android and macOS icons?

Right, you need to have a three digit IQ for that

I don't use it because it's direction is usually driven by someone's idealistic view of its use them by user demand.

>Hey, x feature would be useful to me.
>Yeah, well learn how to code and submit it yourself

>Hey, x feature would be useful to me.
>Well learn how to pay and we will code it for you

For someone who has a busy enough life I chose option 2

The icons are the least of our problems.

To be honest, I agree. Most foss icons, logos are ugly, and look like it came straight from 2003

Give them back, Jamal.

This is your brain on Linux. Stay in school, kids.

Your point being?

>everyone is moving away from it
What is the current trend?

If you're not putting any effort whatsoever into presentation, where else are you minimising your effort? This isn't an academic concern: much of FOSS is absolute minimum-effort rubbish, with bottom-of-the-barrel code quality, and the reason is obvious - unpaid basement-dwellers are very unlikely to produce the best of anything. All the famous, "success story" FOSS projects actually have staffs of paid, professional coders working on them, and have either a generous benefactor bankrolling the whole project, or have found a way to monetise the project (support, paid "Enterprise" version, etc).

So it was none, just mindless ramblings. Ok.

Pidgin was way better than MSN Messenger when I used it in high school. I even used it on Windows. No fucking clue what it's like these days, especially for protocols that present-day normies use, like FB chat.

>why are we 1%, how can this possibly be, how come people won't use our stuff, whywhywhy

No they don't.

It's funny how Anti-free software shills are promoting macOS and Apple software as better alternatives.

Friendly reminder that Apple is a big contributor to free software projects, see LLVM and FreeBSD, and that macOS runs on a free as in freedom kernel and coreutils.

GIMP and Inkscape are absolute shit compared with Photoshop and Illustrator. I mostly do UX and UI mockup designs and you couldn't pay me to switch to GIMP. GIMP's user experience is the absolute worst of the worst with regards to free software design.

Inkscape's a bit better but no professional is going to use either of these pieces of software.

GIMP is not supposed to be a replacement for Photoshop. Why would anyone pretend that it somehow a competitor?

>Inkscape's a bit better but no professional is going to use either of these pieces of software.
>professional
No one cares about graphic designers. I'm a systems engineer (aka "professional") and I use Inkscape all the time for figures and diagrams.

>No one cares about graphic designers.
Not him, but hear this shit from freetards all the time.
>No one cares about
And then the same people wonder why their super cool stable system has 1% market share on desktop.

You'd have to be completely obtuse to ignore the fact that a big part of GIMP's appeal comes from the fact that Photoshop is not easy to run on Linux. I don't even know how to respond to your comment about graphic designers. Are you seriously claiming graphic design work doesn't matter? Or are you saying that the developers of these applications don't consider graphic designers to be a huge part of their user bases? Both claims are utterly ridiculous.

>projecting this hard
Newsflash kid: we don't hate free software. We hate freetards - their endlessly-flapping mouths, to be precise. Entirely different thing. Freetards are ones with the religious hangup over fucking software licenses - a serious psychological defect nobody else shares.

Attached: 25376762.gif (466x540, 1.23M)

>but hear this shit from freetards all the time.
You're on a technology board, your liberal arts degree means nothing here.

>And then the same people wonder why their super cool stable system has 1% market share on desktop.
Popularity does not equal quality, or even technological superiority. The business model of free software isn't to gain some sort of market monopoly, but to offer freedom to the users and empower the community rather than a single company.

>You'd have to be completely obtuse to ignore the fact that a big part of GIMP's appeal comes from the fact that Photoshop is not easy to run on Linux.
No, it comes from the fact that it is free (of charge).

>Are you seriously claiming graphic design work doesn't matter?
No, I'm claiming that you're on the wrong fucking board. Your liberal arts degree or personal opinions on design doesn't mean shit on a board dedicated to technology.

>we don't hate free software
You clearly do, you hate the fact that free software is successful and popular.

>Popularity does not equal quality, or even technological superiority
>muh 100% of supercomputers run Linux
>muh 70% of cellphones run Linux
>muh embedded runs Linux

>i hate the fact that proprietary software is successful and popular
It's so transparent, dude.

Trips of the devil. How fitting for someone who would be against the betterment of the computing landscape.

Why are you so ravingly mad? No one said those in this thread and they are even irrelevant to the troll bait in OP.

However, since you've already brought it up, fact that multi-billion dollar companies invest heavily into the development of free software should really stand as a testament to the ideology. You can both empower the users while still making a profit.

>no u
See . It's clear that you (and OP) hate free software, why would you even make this thread if you think that free as in freedom alternatives are good?

whenever I see the dragora logo I think it is some freak plant-human hybrid screaming 'kill me now'

Attached: dragora-gnu-linux.png (223x213, 35K)

So show us benchmarks of photoshop vs GIMP, lets see how "technologically superior" and "empowering to users" GIMP is objectively, not with your personal opinion. We are on technology board after all.

>compares product logos against desktop icons
Can OP be even more retarded?

>benchmarks
What the fuck are you even talking about? Free software is clearly empowering the user because it is free as in the four freedoms. Holy shit you're autistic.

To call OP a faggot.

Those numbers are mentioned after one assaults the Linux popularity, as if it reflected its quality. It's usually mixed with complete disregard to the fact that a huge majority doesn't know they can do better than the OS their computer came with.
What does that have to do with his argument? How the hell does one benchmark "empowering to users"? And finally, why does everything have to be better, something that is subjective? If you can get by with FOSS, it is ideal.

Proprietary is an anti feature. So is 'software as a service'. This is of course excluding all that spyware and bloat that like to come with such.

More like
>I like this feature!
>more people likes it too
>someone contributes and implements feature
Now look at Photoshop, I read somewhere that for a long time people were asking for features but no one gave a shit about them. Best part is: you pay for said software.

Benchmarks are objective, that is why I asked for them, we are on technology board after all?
Why everything has to be better? Because users want better software of course, its not that complicated.
How is it empowering users? By giving them a better tool to do their job.
Are these points not really clear to anybody?

>Free software is clearly empowering the user because it is free as in the four freedoms. Holy shit you're autistic.
Reflect on this statement, everyone.

Attached: 1368119190764.jpg (414x342, 17K)

I should have put "better" in quotes. Specifically because people start to think of certain software as "standard" or "normal" and believe that it is wrong to go about things in a different way.

FOSS is great just for being FOSS. You need to have a great reason for avoiding it. It empowers users by giving them a tool that will not only help them complete the task at hand, using it will vote against the harmful software. After the programs comes firmware and after that, hardware. All should be free for everyone to improve on, instead of being held back by greedy people whose only defense is that they "have the right to make money and the duty to please investors".
The insult was unneeded, but his point stands firm. Giving someone freedom is empowering. Being jailed by vendor lock-in is a quick boost, like doing drugs. I know it's difficult to sacrifice, considering you're unlikely to feel the benefits yourself, but it is our duty to do this for the future generations.

I think I speak for everybody when I say - you're absolutely fucking nuts, mate. Seriously, certifiably cuckoo. Nineteen shillings short of a quid, deranged, demented, delusional and dangerous - but only to yourself. After reading this cross between a thunderous fire-and-brimstone recitation of the nastiest bits of the Bible, and a Charles Manson recruitment/brainwashing torture chamber soundtrack, it has been decided by the sane humans of Earth that you are have your arms and legs amputated (for your own safety), your larynx removed (for our sanity), and you're to be stuffed into a box constructed of foot-thick 55-Nitinol and thrown in the Mariana Trench, never to foist your unsubtle brand of pseudoreligious insanity on the denizens of this world ever again. May God summon His unlimited strength to maybe, just maybe, have mercy on that unfunny joke within you that passes for your soul. Now begone - whatever the fuck you are.

I mean lets get real for a moment. You install windows 10 in about 45 minutes and for most linuxes its about the same but remember. Biggest base linuxes are about 1 gigabytes or 2 while windows 10 can be more than 5 gigabytes of data. And what happens when you open them. On linux there are about 2 functional buttons, 3 are nonfunctional and in those two buttons there are some pictures to play with. Maybe slide down or up. On windows though, you feel like a god. Its professional its fast, its all functional. You have a godlike user interface. The thing that linux does not have. You have those two buttons in linux, but you still search google for codes to write in terminal. Linux is free because its not worth a penny. Nobody would sell a paper without taking the money. Just not sure why people still buy android while windows phone does 10 times more. Trust me. When you work with windows you know some genius ground breaker dedicated himself to give you an operational os

If the dragon were to extend its neck straight it's head would be upside-down. It also doesn't have any knees and only two teeth.

freetards are like commies and are always 30 years on the past

Good. Normalfags can fuck off.

I thought people educated in the arts mainly used macs, so running the Adobe suite isn't an issue. Also most graphic design work I've seen can be replicated in GIMP or Inkscape since it's all flat shit.

>graphic design is a liberal art

Graphic design is for women and queers

There's no consistency in macOS' icons either. Some are round, some rounded, some square, some rectangular... The only consistency is that they are all low detail and don't use many colors since macOS 10.10 (Jewsemite) ruined the design, finishing the job 10.7 (Lyin') started.

Material design. 3d with perspective and shadows, but mostly textureless.

Good god, that poor fucking thing.
