While I do agree with the overarching point.
I think Fedora and openSUSE belong in the get shit done tier as well.

>get shit done means I use a frozen distro with ancient never changing repo
ok

Getting shit done with Void Linux, but maybe its because I know what I'm doing.

>enterprise level: SLES, REHL, CentOS
>get shit done: *buntu, debian, fedora, openSuse
rest of OPs macro is pretty accurate

>frozen distro with ancient never changing rep
that's why debian stable is truly stable.
All of my servers run debian, and if they ever break I'm 100% sure it's because hardware faliure and not software whims.

That would be CentOS. Fedora maintainers do not list stability as their goal afaik.

And when you get hacked you know it’s 100% a software failure.

I doubt anyone would shell out $50 a year for rhel judt to watch Jow Forums.

>tfw there are people that shell out $70/mo for 20 mbps to lurk on Jow Forums all day
$50/year? not unlikely

>I sit in my bedroom and maintain servers all day
the thread

Add GuixSD to the bottom

Absolutely accurate.

It's a server retard, you want stable packaging. As long as the network is locked down properly theirs no issue with this.
What the fuck is up with people needing bleeding edge, unstable packages and OS? I would much rather have a two year old, stable package that I know works than a few extra features that crash my server.

BECAUSE.....Fuck you

Still compiling...

People want "bleeding edge" mostly because linux distribution system of software is just really bad for a desktop(and most people here are desktop users) You want newer programs? Here take all these new packages, enjoy dependency hell, etc. I hope things like flatpak will get more attention.

300$/year.

If you use void for anything other than containers / VMS you are doing it wrong

This is my issue with people. If you want a desktop, why are you running Kali?
Linux flavors are created for very specific purposes, for 99% of users one of those three OS options are your best bet UNLESS you have a specific use case

There is cheaper one, but its self-support, redhat.com/en/store/red-hat-enterprise-linux-desktop-or-red-hat-enterprise-linux-workstation#?sku=RH0844913

>self-support
B-but what is the point to use RedHat with self-support, it's literally Fedora then.

CentOS.
Why?
To flex that RedHat logo in desktop thread, of course.
It also get updates faster than centos iirc, and I heard redhat have a very good materials on their site for customers.

>300$/year.
$70/mo is $840/year, so still not unlikely

what i use > what you use

You forgot Manjaro in the getting shit done tier

Yikes!
He's not minimalist at all

Forgot LFS at the troll tier

Ding dong didn't you see the redhat there.
Fuck off.

>a frozen distro with ancient never changing repo
why would you call ubuntu this
