Limewire wasn't even the best gnutella client imo. Clunky UI, written in Java, ate up ram... I much preferred BearShare. It was cool how gnutella was an open standard and all the clients could connect to each other. I used some other client on my Linux PC and it worked great for the job. The network was always swamped with bullshit files though. You'd get CP results when searching for something innocent. Also the first file to show up would be the one that spread. This became a problem as we transitioned into the streaming era. Popular songs would get downloaded off myspace in all their 96k 22khz glory, transcoded, then spread through gnutella. You don't need to be an audiophile to know that shit sounds like ass and you would hear people playing stuff like that at parties and in public places. Youtube rips, the replacement normie piracy method, sound way better than that trash. Glad it's gone. Long live Soulseek.

Even if you did download a movie off p2p clients and it was legit it would most likely be total trash quality and have TMD text plastered all over it. In the bad old days if I wanted to download movies I would get on IRC and wait in queues to get them from XDCC bots. It would take for fucking ever and I'd have to just sit there and watch it download because if I didn't my stepdad would power off the computer. After all that I would burn them, they came as VCDs and SVCDs in bin/cue format. I was so happy when I got a DVD player that could play them. Before that it was hours long movie marathons with PowerDVD in front of the computer monitor.
