why do i not, like, totally trust this, some reason ?

GNU/Zircon when?

All in due time, my friend, all in due time. You can safely use Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE, and Kali in Windows now.
Not as virtual machines, as native environments. Zero overhead.

Attached: Untitled.png (1299x1017, 110K)

>native environments
that's not what Wendell proved, everything is still run off the Windows kernel

>Wendell
Literally who?
>Windows kernel
Yes, NT. GNU/NT.

>Literally who?
our lord and savior, pic related
>Yes, NT. GNU/NT.
then its not native, and it definitely has overhead
begone shill

Attached: maxresdefault-3.jpg (1280x720, 90K)

>native
GNU is the operating system. You're running GNU apps and applets. Linux is just a kernel, you don't need it.
>overhead
Hmm.... no.

no, its a virtual machine no matter how your dumbass is trying to market it
>Hmm...no
uh yes sweetie
youtu.be/M2LOMTpCtLA

>vitual machine
Wendell sweaty, don't market your low-IQ videos here, go read a book.

The Windows kernel is not called "NT".

You know what would be even better, running an OS independent of the garbage that is Windows. From a purely technical perspective Windows is abysmal.

>imagine being paid to shill a shitty operating system on a Cambodian basket weaving newsgroup
god you marketing faggots are cancer, fuck off already

From a practical perspective windows has had thumbnails in the file picker for decades.

>GNU/NT
I misread that as "GUNT". Perhaps the GNU/NT can rename itself the GUNT Project, for that extra hipster chique.

xD le epic bro +1 rupee

>1:50
>we're running @ 4channel's
my god, he's a shill

I vote to rename it "GUNT"

Christ you're a dopey cunt

Attached: 1386059913716.png (240x311, 43K)

> GUNT
I like that a fuck of a lot better than "GNU/NT" which sounds gay.

Linux is the operating system.

Shitposters need to leave 2bh

God this slovenly mutt is disgusting. Even his voice echoes with the layers of fat clinging to his vocal chords. Must he insist on pushing his malformed visage so close to the camera? Unwatchable.

>Linux is the operating system.
No, Linux is just a kernel. Nothing more.

GNU/FreeDOS when?

Minix/Hurd when???

>being this assblasted due to being proven wrong by based Wendell
could you be anymore of a soiboi?

Not true. He never made it to colonel. He was only second lieutenant.

Attached: 1521921831757.png (1676x911, 415K)

Imagine running wine under windows

GNU Hurd/Durr when?

FreeDOS is an OS, not just a kernel. You meant GNU/kFreeDOS.

Yes this one.
Btw, why new laptops are sold with FreeDOS? What is the purpose?

so, how's that gl acceleration?
still trying to run glxgear?

That's a yikes from me, 2LT is the lowest officer rank.
Linus literally never got promoted.

It's nonsense to pretend Linux is an operating system. You can only define "the Linux operating system" as an operating system which uses Linux as its kernel. Not only does this show that Linux is only a kernel, and naming an OS Linux is merely a word game, but it also groups together wildly different operating systems into one.

GNU/UEFI when?

That was my first post in this thread. Just pointing out how ugly that mutt is. Funny that you would call others soibois when defending that guy, who looks like a caricature of a soiboi.

Because it's free as in gratis.

yet you're the one offended by his voice and trying to insult him based on his physicality, typical traits of a woman or a "male" so desperate for the attention of women "he" would agree with the idiocies they spew

The fuck are you blabbering on about? The guy is sick, he has an eating disorder.

Are you the guy in the video? Be honest, mutt.

you're a fucking eating disorder you mong

Yes, but why not sell it with empty drive?
I don't get it.
Btw, they could use GNU+Linux, since it is gratis and free just as well.

you're a fucking mong you eating disorder

Eat glue, chunky. Literally, it will help you shut your mouth.

GNU/kTempleOS when??

Linux is a kernel.

you're an eating fuck you monging disorder

All he basically did was 11 months of officer training. Starting in 1989. By 1990 he had left and was back at university. Linus literally never served in the army.

Because you can't have an empty category on your website. FreeDOS sounds good from a marketing perspective. It sounds like Windows, but free. Freedows. FreeDOS. Hmm...

So the manufacturers don't have to roll the cost of a Windows license into the price of their product.

But I'm assuming it's not open source, so what's the point??

Any good terminal yet? Command prompt is literal cancer

Sure just make it default to powershell instead.

He literally only finished officer school and then stopped to continue at university.
Are you illiterate?

Don't say "open source", say "free software".

Attached: freedom.jpg (485x305, 37K)

Ubuntu is open source. Command prompt is just a command prompt. No tricks here.

cmder

I/O is severely slow

not good/10

Threads like this are why we don't have a good Linux yet.

GNU/Linux*

Some laptops I got were listed as FreeDOS, but came with blank HDD.
Some were listed as FreeDOS, and came with FreeDOS pre-installed.
They can sell with blank drive, or with GNU/Linux, which is slightly more useful.

I just don't get why some would really install FreeDOS... For memes? It is no longer 1990s, you don't need DOS in order to install W311

4.20 looks decent to me.

Much appreciated

>Not as virtual machines, as native environments. Zero overhead.
as native as Wine

>the kernel is not called nt

Attached: absolutestate.jpg (405x521, 57K)

can I have an xsession in windows now?

>From a purely technical perspective Windows is abysmal

Attached: 1541140137124.jpg (618x679, 30K)

oh right, the kernel. the kernel for nt. the kernel created specially for nt. nt's kernel.

Attached: f87f70f3b5ba380960d05df41c3edd8e.jpg (500x294, 26K)

>using a 20+ year old kernel

Attached: windows_nt_by_gpolydoros-d7k5mry.png (1366x768, 385K)

yes, you can run XFCE4 and Unity 7 too

>that's not what Wendell proved, everything is still run off the Windows kernel
>then its not native, and it definitely has overhead
That's not how that works. There's not some magic barrier preventing NT from being a kernel to run POSIX utilities on top of.

>deliberately skip product name
You'll look less stupid if you read.

do you have proof for this? I'd absolutely love it if I never had to look at windows UI again

You're too new to remember, but NT was an edition of Windows. That's why those references. That doesn't mean the kernel's called NT. No one inside Microsoft refers to the kernel as NT.

Windows Kernel source when?

>deliberately skip version
You'll look less stupid if you read.
Seriously, is there something in Jow Forums's water supply?

>github.com/QMonkey/wsl-tutorial
>zdnet.com/article/how-to-run-run-the-native-ubuntu-desktop-on-windows-10/

Windows UI best UI hurr durr

NT's kernel isn't called "NT", "NT" refers to the whole system architecture
NT's kernel is just that, NT's kernel.
it says right there in , "NT Kernel"
if "NT" was the name of the kernel, calling it "NT kernel" would be redundant, like calling Linux "Linux kernel"

>too new
I'm 41. I was running NT 3.51 when your mom was still scraping shit off your red ass.
>No one inside Microsoft refers to the kernel as NT
This isn't actually slightly relevant.

>doesn't actually know how NT is laid out
>so doesn't know that "NT kernel" is perfectly acceptable
>though "the microkernel" - as written in the original documents - would be more accurate

Microsoft refers to it as the Windows kernel. So no.
docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/ddi/content/_kernel/

The video says nothing about virtualization. Windows runs the GNU userland using its own POSIX extensions. That's not the same thing as virtualization.

RIP linux

>so doesn't know that "NT kernel" is perfectly acceptable
i'm saying it /is/ acceptable, because it's not the name of the kernel
"NT kernel" is short for "The NT Operating System kernel"
afaik NT's kernel doesn't have a name, i've never seen it referred to by a unique name

Calm down Grandpa, don't forget to take your blood pressure meds.

>marketing changes what it is
Then Android isn't Linux.

SJW LINUX BTFO TORVALDS IN THE GRAVE TRANNIES LEFT WITH NOTHING

it's not
Android uses Linux as it's kernel
Android is an operating system distribution, which includes Linux

It basically forces you to install an OS of your own choosing, in a nice way.
If they put some GNU/Linux distro on there, retards would option it since it costs less than Windows, have no idea how to use it, and then call support and suck up resources.

Too much soya in the freewater

Attached: tk.jpg (1508x1932, 313K)

Does windows run at the same time as the distro?

That's not marketing, it's technical documentation, you fucking moron! Also, yes, naming IS marketing!

>linux struggles for decades to be able to run windows programs
>windows runs all linux programs flawlessly after two years of work
CMON LINBROS IT'S JUST NOT FAIR

It's New Technology not some old beat up Unix machine, simple

They can't even implement filepicker thumbnails in under 3 decades, how is this in any way surprising?

Well, not a *magic* one, no.
But the NT kernel is built on fundamentally different standards, and shit needs to get translated.
Plus, the Linux kernel is just better, so I don't know why you'd want to run the NT kernel.

Thiiiiiis. I wish I could have Windows/Linux instead of GNU/NT. God this si the WORST timeline.

I can't even run mpd what is this shit

daily reminder you could use GNU/NT even before WSL. And that you will never be able to run pure GNU+NT kernel the way you run GNU/Linux
