Indians are what you get when some proto-Iranian farmers come down and rape their way through an Abo-like hunter-gather population, followed by some Aryans storming off the steppes and raping those mixed breeds. So I would blame the Australoid genes for the ugliness.
Interestingly, Europe followed a similar process, with farmers from Anatolia moving in and mixing with the indigenous hunter gather population, followed by the Aryans who decides to move west instead of east. Only the Euro hunter gathers probably looked like the swarthy Welsh phenotype, so massively better looking than the Australian Abo type.
