Monoprice announced their 16-channel processor, complete with Dirac, for 4,000USD

Can any of you experienced ones drop some advice
I have these desktop speakers lying around, usually you could get 5.1 with a compatible audio card on a computer
But I want to hook them up to a 4k hdr tv which only has an optical output
Moving the computer to it would look ugly and uncovienient
Is there some kind of way to covert the three analog outputs to a converter of some kind, i honestly dont want to spend 100s of euros on a receiver when this thing technically is one
Just with shitty outputs
Also if i have to use a receiver, is there a way to reuse this thing as a sub, doesn't look like it has an input for that, unless the orange one counts somehow

PC
RME ADI-2 dac
Some tube amp (diy)

The best
Shit

I suppose this could work, but how does it effect quality? Anyone got any experience?

These bose speakers, a sansui amplifier, marantz cd player and a dual turntable

furry?

I don't have experience with them, I'm sure they vary. Noise could be an issue, but it's a pretty simple digital to analog device. Ground loops could be another thing, but you are using optical which won't tie the grounds together so that makes that problem a lot less likely provided the converter and your HTIB are on the same circuit. I'd get something with a return policy, try it, see how it does, then return it if it doesn't work well and get a really cheap receiver. There are receivers for dirt cheap if you look around. Accessories4less in the US, I'm sure there is a Euro equivalent.

Thanks, i'll see what comes of it

I wholeheartedly approve of this thread.

Thoughts on this $700 party speaker from LG? It supposedly sounds better than two Altec Lansing or JBL boomboxes duct taped together. youtube.com/watch?v=yjz9iXVGvvo

Where do you guys buy your audio improvement pebbles?
Can you recommend any shops?
What crystal species are the best for clean sound?

These babies. They might be cheap but I love 'em. Best $200 I ever spent (got them on sale)

Gonna get a sub soon most likely, but I'm waiting for 4K120 to be a thing before I upgrade my TV.

Nigga you using some shitty ass speakers. You won't even notice

rekt

Ur probs right lol, just want the bass, anythings better than shitty tv speakers

Some of you saw me in the setups thread. I'm back
Looking to reorganize some things so I don't have to stack the components like this (yes I know very well that this is bad to have them stacked), but I don't have much space to work with.
TT: Pioneer PL-115D w/ AT95e cart
Receiver: Denon AVR-1507
CD: Yamaha CDC-575
IEM: MEElec M6 Pro mk.2
Plan on buying Klipsch R-51M speakers soon, and was able to demo them in person, and WOW! I know Klipsch has a "reputation" with some people, but I liked them better than even ELAC B6's.

>Bose
Look I understand that you may have received these as a gift, or you may have actually spent on them, but you can definitely get better sound for your buck than Bose
Power to ya, though. I personally can't listen through those speakers
Meant to reply to ya in the setup thread, but it 404'd. I like this setup a lot! You clearly put work into it. I hope it's treating you well! What's the cart on your Pro-Ject?

Attached: 0103190335.jpg (1109x2215, 332K)

Forgot to mention in that the rest sounds like a great setup! My father had a Marantz, good brand.
I'm also interested in the cart on your Dual. Is it stock, or a higher quality cart?

Thanks! I like your setup as well. I remember you from the setups thread too, I'm glad you were able to demo the Klipsch speakers.

I'm using an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. It's just the default cartridge that came with the turntable. I haven't really given any thought to upgrading it.

klipsch + onkyo, it's awesome and cheap

also thinking of getting some jbl 705i or 708i, do those work with receivers?

KEF LS50 masterrace

kys

I know about these bose speaker bro, have gotten them for free indeed, they are at my parents house have 2 MB QUART 390 MC'S with a pioneer tower and another dual here it's still all original!

What amp?

NAD D3020 v2

I thought I would be gimping it using such a weak amp but it gets ear-deafeningly loud for my desk. Also not the size of a small mountain so that's nice.

The old MB Quarts are nice speakers. Was sad when they sold to China.

When you are sitting a foot from the speakers doesn't take much to make it happen. I doubt my desktop speakers use a watt at any point during an average day.

Okay, that's very cool and good
ngl I got my Denon receiver AND CD player for free from my folks, but luckily only the Denon receiver is sub-par (not enough watts per channel).
I can definitely look past those Bose. Well done, user. Well done

The system I'm in the process of building is going to be based around these rare horn driven speakers from a small company called Goto unit. Should be interesting.
So far I have two sets of mid range drivers and horns; and a Technics SE-A3 amplifier.
Thinking of using Altec 515s to augment the horns for low end bass.

question about speakers. if my power amp (old) has only 75 wpc, and the speakers I bought are 85 rms, everything will be fine so long as I don't start clipping, right?
probably should have spent more time researching before I bought the speakers

It's not ideal but just as long as you don't play them load it shouldn't make a difference. If you start asking for more than 75w from your amp then it will start clipping.

Neat, have any pictures?

Is it true the majority of the sound comes out of the center speaker?

>Altec 515s
Going for a vintage design? I worry that might be a little too old for its own good.

Yeah, center channels get the most content.

Not really. I don't have everything to put it together. so most of the components I do have are still in bubble wrap.

iktf. I'm putting together my system and have so little time to spend on it that it'll probably be like three or four months by the time I finish.

Debating setting up my old stuff in the meantime just so I have something to watch movies with that aren't the tv speakers.

>working on a flexy rack
>got a JVC CD player and JVC KD-D4 cassette deck
My current setup is a Pioneer PL-400, Onkyo TX-8500 Mk I, JVC XL-M417TN, JVC KD-D4, and Pioneer SG-750. Thinking of saving some money for a pair of JBL 4311s.

My problem is I can't even cobble it together until I get the crossovers made.

Here's mine for the heck of it. Poorfag life, but it sounds pretty good and none of it cost much.
Realistic STA-800 (1980), crappy ION TTUSB with the USB burnt up when my last motherboard fried. (luck!?)
90s-somethin JVC cassette deck there that works pretty well and uh, Pioneer CD player from 1986. It's great.
I also have one of those cheapo RCA Voyager 2 tablets stuck there with VLC on it to play digital audio & internet radio. The speakers're 116/232 watt "American Acoustics". Not the most beautiful setup or anything, but I like it.

Attached: Stereo01.jpg (1920x1200, 353K)

>on same track
I lucked out on a set JBL horns. Found them at a thrift shop in a small town for $20.
I'm thinking about going a similar route. Large horn/folded horn cabinet with a 15" or 18" woofer, the JBL horns for mids and an eminence tweeter horn for the high end.
jbl 2482 drivers and 2350 horns with adapters.
> other horn in garage, refinishing it

Attached: Horn Proj.jpg (1440x1792, 531K)

On that note...does anybody know a good cleaning solvent for these damn speaker grills? Tried a bunch of stuff already.

Do the grills come off?
It might be easier to just replace the fabric.

They do, but since they're probably-fragile plastic being old, I'd hate to try my clumsy hand at that.
WD-40 left those dark spots with some light scrubbing, maybe I can just use it for the entirety, but holy jeez it's gonna take a whole can or two.

A pair of JBL 308P MkII's and a JBL LSR310S fed by Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer over XLR.
I have them placed on either side of me with the sub directly behind the couch behind me. Forgive the mess, still cleaning up from holidays.

Attached: IMG_20190105_201806.jpg (4048x986, 935K)

I'm bracing myself for a wild ride here, gents. I ordered a pair of Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekend Mk II's back in October, but a combination of factors have led me to also order a pair of Buchardt S300 Mk II SE's (there's a couple B-grade units on their site at the moment). Zu Audio decided to take an extra fortnight or more to ship the speakers, and dealing with them as a company overall has thus far been a lackluster at best experience, so I went in on the Buchardts (which I already also had my eye on) while I wait. I'm gonna put them both to the test, and whomever impresses me the most gets to stay. Both units will be set up on the same system, with a MiniDSP HD for tweaking and blended with a sub as appropriate. They have 60-day and 30-day respective return policies, so we'll see who wins the day.

Kinda yeah, but mostly I drive the subs off the same amp, so I need a high efficiency driver that can also hit 20hz. I also also found ceramic 12" drivers by Accuton that would fit the bill but I'm afraid they wouldn't sound right for the horns.

If you know of some other drivers that can hit 20hz on less than 200 watts I'd appreciate the recommendation.

bought this bad boy recently, it rocks

>Klipsch
My negro

do you know how klipsch compares to jbl studio 5?

I've got the same shitty PC speakers and they suck massive dick.

Nope sorry. I would be inclined towards Klipsch just due to brand loyalty.
Also I've never seen a zoomer with a portable blutooth klipsch speaker but that's neither here nor there.

Thinking of upgrading to a Denon DP-47F turntable and getting an Onkyo M-504 amplifier since my Onkyo TX-8500 has pre-outs. Open to any suggestions for stereo amps that have huge VU meters that aren't hideously expensive.
An user here had bought that Klipsch "The One" bluetooth speaker.

Volumio PC + Antelope Zodiac + NC500 + Amphion Argon 1
Although I would like to buy a new DAC to replace the Zodiac, because the XLR output from that Zodiac is just too strong that either I have to reduce the volume on Volumio or I could only put the volume pot of the Zodiac to 9 o'clock position.

a good catch
15" bass will be more suited
make crossover point somewhere in 600Hz range (18 or 24 db/octave)

>VU meters
>not expensive
some old Technics pre/power combo

Attached: technics_se-a1000m2_su-c1000m2_pre-power_amplifier.jpg (1000x567, 102K)

Only have a Denon DRS-610 cassette player so far. Its side loading so I don't get to see the tape spin but supposedly it means it has better playback. Been listening through my headphones for the time being but i'm trying to work on the rest of my setup now.

Any recommendations on sub £150 bookshelf speakers? Also looking to get a receiver but i'm struggling to find recommendations beyond the Onyko and Yamaha, was hoping there was a Technics, Denon or Pioneer that was good too

>spend $10000 dollar on speakers and amps
>empty walls, hard wood flooring

Loudness war is real. Enable "sound check" in iTunes (volume normalization everywhere else) and compare two of the same songs: One from an old CD pre-LW, then another one from a "remastered" CD from the 2010s (e.g. a best-of sampler, most artists have something like that). Both will be equally loud because your playback software will have normalized it, but the "remastered" one with LW will sound like shit, all depth is gone. Everything sounds like dubstep when they crank up the compressor to "make a track louder".

Pisses me off.

I think it would still be very enjoyable today.

I have a bunch of old magazines also, I oscillate between throwing them out or putting them on my shelves. I'm leaning toward tossing them. Trying to be more minimalistic.

Funny how these guys are all about accuracy but then use unbalanced methods of signal delivery.
That was a funny read though, I'm sure there is some sort of difference but I doubt it's actually a good one.
