If I could use XFCE I would consider it. GNOME is just a shitty macfag wannabe.

Not stable enough to be in kde

i would, but debian only uses half of ram that ubuntu uses when idle

lost it at Archfag

I could literally use any distro and get this Jewbuntu Faggotry,

I'd rather stick with muh debian

Literally Xubuntu.
>or install Mint with XFCE

Also I agree. Fuck GNOME and it's cancer layout.

Or MX Linux, also a stable debian in xfce flavor

I prefer Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. If I wanted a distro that doesn't just werk, I wouldn't be stooping to using a normie botnet distro in the first place.

What does MX do better than Mint/Ubuntu?
>just curious

XFCE is one of the many, many DEs that do not just werk when you're running them on hiDPI displays. If you can point me to a non-ugly, non-botnet DE with good hiDPI support, I'll consider giving up GNOME.

I dunno, I just saw it was suddenly no. 2 on distrowatch the other day. Trying it out recently as live distro.
My only complaint about it is that I can't find the proxy settings for the network (but could adjust it within Firefox)

If I have Ubuntu 18.04, would I notice any differences when upgrading to 18.10?

This is always funny

Can you run microsoft office 2016 on wine yet? It's the one piece of software I'm unable to switch for an open source alternative.

user, if you can; Just stop using MS Office in general and start using some other open-source alternatives

I might switch.
Literally everytime I am installing something
"Ubuntu has the latest version of X but Debian you will have to build from source"

Even the OCaml compiler is like 5 versions out of date on stable Debian.

run it in a vm or run linux in a vm for everything else

KDE, Pantheon and Cinnamon have good hiDPI support.

>If I have Ubuntu 18.04, would I notice any differences when upgrading to 18.10?
Yes, you would notice things breaking in a few months because 18.10 is not LTS

Not really, and it would be silly to sacrifice stability for a negligible difference.

there's a version of office online

Sticking with 18.04 for the entire supported lifecycle most likely. Updating your OS is a meme, I don't have time for that shit anymore

cool wallpaper OP, can you please share?

running ubuntu 18.10 on one laptop and kubuntu1810 on the other one

i haven't used microsoft office in 6 years

Thanks for the replies, guys.

As much as I want, I can't, it's for work and I can't force other companies to change their formats for editable files.

I've heard of running a VM to make it more or less integrated with the host OS, but does that allow accessing files easily between the VM and the host OS?

I do need some specific macros and other functionality that is not yet accessible online. Hopefully that will become an option in the future.

use a vm, you can drag and drop files between host and guests

seriously though, libre office is fucking free, no one can tell you they can't open your files without looking like a retard

This is from someone who didn't use it extensively but did check it out in a VM to see what's up:

The big draw I saw with it is MX Tools, a control panel for tweaking niche things that you wouldn't find in the normal settings. Live USB maker, codec installation, repo management, etc. Kinda like yast in that regard.

Aside from that, it didn't appear to have much that was particularly good. The fact that it's not Ubuntu-based might appeal to some people, I guess.

>Wittingly lets it run in the background

Opening isn't the problem, it's that they have to be edited/corrected and sent back. LO often doesn't follow the same formatting that MSO follows, and sending a file with broken sections doesn't help. If it was always possible to send it as a pdf it would not be an issue, but it's an editing process that involves multiple companies, and MSO is pretty good for tracking changes.

I'll look up more info on using a vm, sounds like it could work out.

Can I get that pape, OP?

>Install Windows 7 on vbox
>Share folder with host and guest
>Turn on seamless mode
I do this when I need MS office to ensure any docx file I need to send out looks fine.

>KDE
Worse screen tearing than XFCE. Gtfo.

But Canonical sucks. They are failure after failure. If you want something that just works, get Fedora. If you need that proprietary software fix, install Fedy. Done and done.

What's bad about LibreOffice?

>company still uses docx

oof

formatting and rendering issues when exporting to ms office, i imagine

Does this work with win10?

Ubuntu is a poor mans windows, pirate windows or use a cooler linux

>poor mans windows
Windows is already for the poor

What is this? A picture from 2006?

UMA DELICIA.

wow this is good

that part gets me every time

Enjoy your botnet.

I would but *buntu is bloated. even xubuntu is kinda slow. I'd rather use an OS that's undoubtedly privacy respecting and also just werks.
based and RMSpilled

>GNOME

Ill stick with QubesOS
thanks

>I can't believe user prefers user's desktop to mine
I'm in tears. This movie was great.

Why would I when Debian exists?

Maybe you want a package from the last 5 years

I do have it. I don't understand why I'm using this much memory. I mean, it's not like I use even 4gb at a time, but I think I'll try to something else when I buy a new SSD.

bravo 10/10

generalfags need to die.

Windows is living in burned out car parked at a dead end in the ghetto poor. Their is nothing more poor than Windows.

Absolutely nothing.

>Words to avoid: Linux
kek

You can typically set up a shared folder in VMs. No need to bother drag and dropping at all.

Is the best desktop environment (unity) still available for Ubuntu?

>a fucking foot
Install Kubuntu, Xubuntu, or Lubuntu.

Attached: afuckingfoot.png (838x1198, 908K)

>not using wayland

I'll stick to arch because I don't suck dick unless it's a trap.

>Install Ubuntu 18.10
>18.10

DON"T
SHIT IS BROKEN AS FUCK

I had everything break in my installation, EVEN THE FUCKING SUDO
They managed to break SUDO

Stick to the LTS version and nothing else

PEBKAC

kek

>PEBKAC
I didn't even do anything to the system, it pretty much fallen apart on it's own.

18.10 doesn't boot
18.04.1 installer keeps crashing

Really not worth my time right now

I've had no issues. Must be a bad package.

> .10
i did that with 17 10 and it was shit
install ok, weird bugs after restart, don't think i got past the tty
not beta testing anything but lts, stay away from debian as well

could you tell me your dpi ?

>tearing
that's your gpu/driver

The Gentoo desktop does like nice.

use backports
if a backport doesn't exist, it's trivial to make your own from a sid package in a few commands

>app-text/
uses Gentoo GNU/Linux
>WPS office
but also uses proprietary software wtf

As long as the host machine is powerful enough to run W10 in a VM.

Already did, chief. Only I'm not using it with GNOME because I have a desktop computer, not a tablet.

Is this an Intel laptop with no power management software installed? I had the same problem. I think the combo of Intel patches and using Intel graphics is causing this.

The foot kicks ass.

I have seen a script for installing office 2016 for playonlinux, but i just use microsoft office 2010.

already installed it, what do i do next? how do i unbotnet it?

>how do i unbotnet it?
by installing gentoo

how buggy is it? should i just stick to 18.04LTS?

>Gnomeshit

nope

>systemd
Fuck off, (((Poettering)))
