Where are they at for the next version number?

first post is right. Unix boomers.
I like the concept of slackware, but it should have more tools for sysadmins and, is not supported by most software vendors or developers. So mostly just hobbyist use it.

slackware seem like a great distro

He does.

>hobbyist use it.
like international megacarporations of world domination

Everyone needs more slack in their lives.

Unraid uses Slackware.

Trannies

Never use it. I dont know.

windows 7

I use it bc it feels like living in BSD land, but with all the drivers and goodess of the linux kernel.
Basically it's just the most "plain" or "clean" linux a regular dumbass like myself can be bothered to install.
Also p much everything is upstream so there's very little distro-specefic bullshit to be dealt with.

it scares me to hear there's no patches. If there are security issues do they update the whole package then? Or do they backport to the version on slackware?

iOS and Android

been using slackware based distros, they're fast and stable. never used actual slackware though. may need to play with it.

I use GNU/Linux
t. Zoomer

retards mostly

What are you talking about no patches?

You should be the one keeping up with the security meme and not rely upon others to do it for you, if you are truly security conscious.

40 year old sysadmins who havent used anything else

I was born in 1998 and I use Arch.

>just figure out a patch yourself bro
truly a pointless distro, thanks for confirming this to me

>just figure out a patch yourself bro
Not what I said.
I said you need to keep up with security releases, not rely upon maintainers to apply them for you.
Don't you know the #1 concern in opsec is trust?
Why should you trust some rando maintainer more than yourself?

All its users got fed up and left the distro.

I dunno but maybe someone can explain what the fuck is going on with their latest slack current live iso, because I didn't run into issues with one from around October
why the fuck does it take you to the bash shell during the loading process? I sign in under live but all that does is wait for bash commands and I have no clue what to do

Homosexuals

Debian, ubuntu, RHEL, all of them apply a lot of CVEs backports. If your distro patches none, that is a little big job you got there, I'd rather just do Linux from scratch.
The absolute state of slackers, relying on the obscurity of linux

Not what I said, faggot.
You are a huge faggot though.

They don't use computers, so it's Android and iOS.

1) wget package set
2) install package set

Alternatively use slackpkg or something.

Why would you even use this scuffed distro when ubuntu and Debian exist???

Android, the most popular Linux distribution.

I miss that 80s/90s zine aesthetic

Reminder that there is a anti-slackware campaign going on for some reason. Notice the fud and lies. Why they want to dissuade people from trying or using it idk. Why they are trying to change normal perception of it idk.

homosexual niggers

For me, it's Gentoo Linux
The best GNU/Linux distribution

Now also update all dependencies

>slackpkg upgrade-all
Wew dat woz hard

I've been getting the feeling that slackware users are fifty or older.

Lazy people, the name implies that people are slacking off.

I can't comprehend if you are baiting, are retarded, or you just didn't understand what we were talking about

the kernel is still in 4.4.x

What kind of retarded brainlet do you have to be that you fuck up using a live iso?

me

Heh heh...including all the lanthanides and actinides.
Good luck.

slackware current uses 4.6.x, it gets updated constantly but is unstable

if you try to use the stable 14.2., it is already quite old.. and still there isnt a new version out

nah, 14.2 is fine
if I want newer packages I can simply compile packages from -current on 14.2, this scenario is similar to debian's backports

have you tried to use -current packages in 14.2 already and were there any troubles?

I would be interested to update XFCE if it works after such tweaking and I would like to hear if you did this

It's my preferred linux os, but I use haiku as a daily driver now.

t. trans gal

yeah, since forever and it works fine
the only problem I can think of is that -current packages were built against gcc 6 while 14.2 still uses gcc 5 so they won't run on 14.2, that's why you have to recompile it
another thing to consider is to read the SlackBuilds file before compiling, -current packages tend to enable features that requires dependencies that aren't present on 14.2
example: vim 8.0 on -current has this
CFLAGS="$SLKCFLAGS" \
./configure \
$* \
--prefix=/usr \
--enable-pythoninterp \
--with-python-config-dir=/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX}/python$PYVER/config \
--enable-python3interp \
--with-python3-config-dir=$(python3-config --configdir) \
--enable-perlinterp \
--disable-tclinterp \
--enable-multibyte \
--enable-cscope \
--with-features=huge \
--with-compiledby="" \
--build=$ARCH-slackware-linux || exit 1
14.2 doesn't ship python 3 so you have to remove the following lines that enable that feature:
--enable-python3interp \
--with-python3-config-dir=$(python3-config --configdir) \

also NEVER try to upgrade your gcc or libc, library, compiler, etc to a major version, i.e. 1.x.x to 2.x.x, upgrading minor version is fine, i.e. 1.2.x to 1.3.x

People who want KDE but no Systemd
