Is the island keyboard really THAT much better than the chiclet? I prefer island but not sure if the t420 still holds up. Would it be OK for a college student?

island = chiclet
Chiclet is god tier for typing but the layout is not good at all.

very cute, F

they're both good desu, and yeah t420 should be fine for taking notes and programming if that's what you're doing, i don't think laptop processors have improved much

1fichier.com/?ht81c8g0zx9j7nf7wpu8. Follow this github guide and just skip straight to isntalling osx github.com/b-ggs/x220-hackintosh, if you want wifi you will have to install the modded bios and get a compatible card because osx cant into intel wifi

Is $120 too much for a t420? 8gb ram/500gb storage

Coming over a T420 (i5/4GB), a X220 (i5/4GB) and a X230 (i7/8GB) tomorrow for $750ish.

...Have to overpay for devices because of special characters.

The man who can't do basic tasks return

i got a x201 and I can do basic tasks. t420/x220 is just fine if you give it an SSD

Got a X230 with flashed bios, Ivy Bridge i7 CPU, X220-keyboard. It's my baby.

Hey /tpg/, long time no see! I'm testing qtchan right now!

Attached: thinkpad1.jpg (2136x1424, 1.19M)

is there any guide for modding the x230t bios after i dump it?

Attached: 1544959836895.png (956x1026, 967K)

is the t430s cucked?

unironically yes
just buy a T440p at that point
t. T420 masterrace

ur waifu a shit
unlike thinkpads she will never be real

I have no experience working with tablet thinkpads, I wouldn't want to give you advice in case of it being incorrect, as we're talking about bios which is a delicate matter.

Was obviously meant for

How is T440p for the ~$200 range. I need something for school. Would also be cool to use with a dock

>have x61 running linux
>does all my programmer tasks perfectly fine
>have desktop for music and gaming
>tfw windows 10 upgrade slowed daily usage to a grind
>tfw windows 10 has done that to several other of my machines
>consider buying x230 for making music on the go
>I know the second I put windows 10 on that machine it'll run worse than my x61 does now

Attached: round.gif (498x594, 97K)

actually it just occurred to me. I've never once used an SSD and have been using the same couple of HDDs on all these machines.
Would that make that big of a difference...?

ssd is a single best upgrade to any laptop ever, how did you even make it to 2019 without ever using an ssd that's baffling

I've been thinking about grabbing a think pad recently, and just found this HP Compare nw9440 in a closet at work with old equipment. I fucking love the feel of the keyboard and overall chassis, is this comparable to a thinkpad? Is there any thinkpad model that is similar but with a better processor than a centrino?
Pic related

Attached: csm_hp_nw9440_tastatur_07_075381aeca.jpg (1600x1200, 437K)

i have one and i love it.
i use it for writing papers, making presentations, and sshing into other computers that do simulations.
technically, everything i use it for i could also use a raspberry pi for, but i like having the screen and the keyboard.

I wonder how long it took Lenovo to manipulate an entire board into believing their laptops are so superior they need a daily thread

To what extent are parts interchangable between models? I'm considering replacing the battery in my T450s; do I have to explicitly go for that model?

There's a risk when buying a battery that it's been used and doesn't hold a charge as well. Is that a significant risk, and is there any way to mitigate it? Or is it basically just luck?

uwu based haven't seen you post in ages desu
i'll ask on the bios mod forum

just get ltsb ive had zero issue with ltsb and been running it for 2 years on numerous devices

Attached: 1544959135773.jpg (714x1009, 128K)

May your system be free from whitelists and not turn into a brick broder.

im gonna dump the bios like 5 times and then make sure i have atleast 3 matching hashes kek

Attached: monsterUltra.gif (398x400, 1.6M)

just get rid of win10 and use win7

I have a laywer friend who picks up thinkpads from bankrupt companies, whenI get a device for flashing I always let him know so he keeps an extra until he gets a text from me that I either did it or goofed before selling it. Haven't goofed yet but that makes me feel more safe about it.

I fucking despise HP but man I get uncomfortable in my pants looking at that

that's an old boy.

can anyone here comment on the cooling system for the P50/51/52? thinking about getting a P51 but heard mixed things about the cooling.

Yeah, those old HPs similar in characteristics to Thinkpads. What are the specs?

kek thats awesome desu. I saw this on the bios mod forums is this all i need to do? I have messaged a user to make sure the offsets are the same for the x230t

Mods for Lenovo x230, tested on bios version 2.73, PhoenixTool 2.73.

These changes were taken from other sites and other Lenovo models, adapted for the x230 and tested on personal laptop.

You need to dump the bios from your notebook, from what I read you can't flash someone else bios dump, your laptop will not boot.
Use the PhoenixTool part from here developers-club.com/posts/219893/

Quote:
We start it, we select our bios.rom and we wait until it unpacks it, further in the field of Manufacturer we select Lenovo and we press the Advanced button, there we tick off "Allow user to modify other modules" and "No SLIC". We click "Done" and "Go", when the window will open we click nothing and we go to the DUMP folder where our Bios is unpacked.

I would cause I'm a nigger with good taste.

No idea about the internal one but the tp battery 68 and 68+ fit in loads of models including t450s. I have a t460 72wh on in my t440s

Not sure on proc speed, I think it had 2gb ram, a whopping 60gb hd. The screen was incredible though, I think 1900x1200? 14" or 15".

Any thoughts on a Dell Latitude E6410 with an i5-M520?

i want to use an egpu through the expresscard on the x220

recommend me some gpus that will work, preferably amd bc muh linux drivers
im not that familiar with amd products, but is the rx 560 a good choice? will it work at all? are there bottlenecks and how much?

I would be too, if her clit weren't shriveled.

thanks frens
4 year old pic. "powerful" in a small package - much like the x200 she is next to.

I'm sorry user.

I want to install bsd system to play around in. What think pad do I get

based and truth

Still waiting for a Thinkpad P with Ryzen CPU, but I have a question to the Ideapad users here.

Is your Ryzen CPU socketed and can be changed like on old Thinkpads like the T430 or do you have to change the whole mainboard?

nani desu ka

iitai koto wa sore dake wa?

I'd say it's fine tho I'm a Thinkpad noob, just paid 80 bucks for a t420 but it only had 4 gb ram and a smaller HDD. Get it if it's really good condition.

how loud are thinkpads? I'm so fucking tiered of my "gaminglaptop" which is about to die anyway. I'm looking for the most comfy revision. Silent and not trying to melt the fucking sun while watching a youtube video.

Your dog is cute, I am sorry.

depends if it's an old model or a more recent one.

something maybe under 150 bucks?

I don't think so.
A used X220 probably, if you have luck.
It's like a normal Laptop. Just look at the pictures on Google.

I'm in love with tripcode!Q/7

Gave up on getting bumblebee to work on my w530 and stuck to the integrated graphics. Finally comfy.

Thanks user, much love. Laptop should be here in the next couple of days. Can't wait.

No way he will ever be even remotely passable without major surgery.

I disagree, he's adorable

You should get something with an ARM CPU if you want quiet. Pinebook or a chromebook or something.

What's that skinny fuck from superbad? Mclovin or whatever? Has the same fat/downsy cheeks. 2/10.

New to thinkpads. I was wanting to use one for a linux distro as my desk setup/"daily home driver". I've been looking at the T430 and X220. The T430's upgradeability is intriguing but fuck, the keyboard looks awful. I love the smaller size, look, and keyboard on the X220 but I'm not sure how I feel being stuck with the specs. Not that I think I'll need anything super resource intensive, just casual media use and light programming.

Any suggestions?

We found the nigger

The island keyboard of the T430 won't get you the autist-cred of an older keyboard, but rest assured that in terms of feel and typing comfort it is still literal miles above modern tiny chiclet laptop keyboards.

At least pick a good looking trap. I'd let pic related sit on my face.

Unrelated/related my x200 has coil whine real bad when brightness isn't max. It only happened after flashing trannyboot. I don't mind it, actually super cozy. This happrn to anyone else, and does anyone else actually like it like me?

Attached: 1528917125758-x.jpg (675x601, 217K)

I'm in it for the personality and adorableness, your trap looks like a thot. Pic related is a good boi

To each their own. Mine calls trolls on their stream boomers and cucks and bans them but is super cute so won me on all friends. To each their own, love ya fag.

*Won me on all fronts. Fuck I'm bad at typing.

Why not get the T420/T520/W520 if you want the old keyboard but with upgradability?
