Why are tech demos with mud so rare?

cause it looks like shit

It's the same texture tiled over and over, nothing new under the sun.

That's the thing!
If you can make mud look like mud and not like shit you can make everything look good.
It's a totally underrated competence.

speaking of tech demos, are there any new ones you can download and try? I remember Nvidia and ATI used to release GPU demos you could try out like Ruby or Dawn.

that's why your mud probably looks like shit.

because instead of looking at mud, you typically... I don't know... look at anything else on the screen.

the only game where mud is a mechanic is this game

and I think its sequel, beyond that why bother with it when it's just going to be covered with grass?

>Cryengine 3
>Frostbite
Well, what engine is it?

>look at anything else on the screen.
can't the mud is too important

>when its going to be covered by grass
Its always covered like that because it always looks terrible. If it didnt it wouldnt be (ex: RDR2 prominently features muddy areas that look great)

Yeah, they are called Battlefield 5 and Anthem :)

Both

>the mud is too important
t. swamp monster

you've just stumbled on to the biggest conspiracy in 3d tech my friend

You should be asking more questions. QUESTION. EVERYTHING.

its covered because most people are fucking sick of the desaturated grey/brown defining how games looked for the better part of 10 years, its covered because mud is fairly appealing to look at. would I rather have a fucking mud caked hellscape, or a lush green forest to look at?

if your game is a hellscape then they will make the mud look good or be bethesda, but other then that, no one wants to see mud.

I want to eat that mud

If I don't poop in that mud then my name isn't Sareesh!
