solaris was perfectly usable until oracle bought it, then they killed opensolaris and made the licensing confusing
BSD is arguably better than Linux in some cases. Instead of every piece of the OS being developed by a different group it's almost all managed by the projects themselves. You don't see a GNU/BSD. My only problems is that it doesn't support some of my wifi cards
