Has /anime/ tech regressed? Just look at this shit, it's older than my boomer self and the animation and composition is far superior to modern industry shit.

Computer animation is soulless and lame. Same as digital “cinema” which is just modern video. Filmmakers used to sneer at video, now they’re video makers themselves.

Pathetic.

People who are bothered to put an effort into art are all funneling it into 3D and digital, rather than learning how to do traditional 2D.
Back then everything was hand painted 2D animation, so naturally everyone in the animation industry focused on that without anything else distracting them.
Nowadays the money is in other places, so traditional has pretty much been forgotten.
I mean find a 2D animator nowadays who does traditional on online galleries. For every one you can find at least 1000 people who are able to do 3D
Besides that old anime is extremely rich in shadows and hard lights.
Modern stuff is way different style wise and most likely far cheaper to produce. Lucky to have any character shadows to begin with.

You can still imitate the stuff of the 80s though.

One guy animated this alone and he's still making more stuff.
It's really just a matter of effort and time. I really hope that the old styles make a comeback one day.

Also people of the 80s had an eye for proper anatomy and fit chicks.
That's also a big factor in the characters looking far more aesthetic than nowadays.

>computers are soulless and lame, I do everything by hand

>we gave up creative and visually interesting propmaking/vfx for shitty uncanny valley CGI

worst timeline

They don't make them anymore, there are some really well animated shows from the last 20 years but japanese animation in general has decayed extremely noticeable from what it used to be, probably because most shows nowadays are just throwaway shows just to fill a free spot, and the style in general, with each decade it gets more and more simple thanks to lazy animators.
There stills some exceptions, but overall the animation style is more simple compared to let's say the 80s or 90s decade.

Still better than western animation though...

2D can look really good (see Gurren Lagann, except for episode 4 and the cgi ships near the end), most just have low budget or untalented workers.

This, most movies have top tier visuals and animation.
