This is why we don't like windows

>come into work
>all of your unsaved documents and open webpages are gone because windows decided it wanted to restart

Come into dictionary and try again.

this is the problem of Windows 10

7 works just fine

>he didn't save his session

Relying on sessions.

>not pushing Ctrl + S with your subconscious reflex every 10 seconds

When will Windows be ready for Desktop use?

i do this on files im working on but a lot of times i write notes in the editor and dont save them to disk

your workflow sucks
change it

why don't you backup to external

At this point, never. In a professional setting it's just embarrassing

this, I thought I was the only one
Sometimes I even reflexively ctrl+s while typing a long post on Jow Forums

Windows didn't "decide" anything. It was set to restart. If you didn't want that, you should have set it differently.

inb4 damage control
No, Windows 10 is garbage. But you're a retard. Either let someone else manage your computer or read the manual.

>we
Multiple personalities.

why would i ever read the windows manual lmao

>select "Windows 10" in my grub boot menu
>wait about 5 minutes for windows 10 to get to the login screen
>login
>wait another 5 minutes for the desktop to fully load and be usable
>"You have important updates, reboot now or in 5 minutes?"
>reboot
>wait an hour for updates
>boot into windows again
>same 10 minute startup time as earlier
>get frusturated and just go back to linux, lecture is already over now anyways

This is why I don't like windows. It being spyware contributes to my disdain, but it's not even usable. Like at all. It doesn't work. Even trying to use MINIX as a desktop OS is more productive than trying to get anything done with windows

Because you're too poor/stupid to buy a Mac.

>leaving your computer on/10
fired

Why do retards pretend this is an issue when it can easily be turned off? There are plenty of reasons to dislike Windows 10, but this isn't one.

7 also stalks you to go afk for some minutes to start raping the computer

Windows 10 has session saving and restoration capabilities, it's your own fault for not understanding how to use them.
WIN+Tab, oh look, multiple desktops.
What now lincucks

cntrl + s

I guess it's more of a general hate about Windows doing things behind your back or without your consent

what hardware do you have because my windows 10 boots in less than 20 seconds cold, usually much less than that, you must be rockin some old ass shit nigga

If you fail to set a specific variable in a configuration file on Linux and your application or environment does something "without your consent" do you also complain? No, you don't. Don't bitch about Windows if you aren't going to take the time to learn about the operating system. You spend thousands of hours learning about how Linux is structured and the way each application works, yet won't do the same for Windows, and then bitch when it does something "without your consent" that you don't understand.

I also don't understand, for people willing to toil through endless CLI man pages they sure do hate taking a whole 10 clicks to turn off windows update

So is Windows a timesink OS as well, except you pay money for it IN ADDITION to time?

I thought the selling point of windows was that you didn't need to rtfm.

what is so hard about turning off auto updating, superfetch, BITS, and removing cortana? you can do all of that in literally seconds

thinkpad x220 w/ a corei7, 6G ram, ssd, etc. Both Linux and FreeBSD fly on this thing but windows 10 is straight up unusable. Yes, the hardware is somewhat dated, but it's more than the minimum requirements for win10. 7 and xp run just fine but windows 10 is absolutely awful to use.

you can also earn a degree in literally seconds. a lot of em.

windows server doesn't have this problem

Neither does the pro edition
>disable update service

>system wanted
system - master
user - slave

A legit pro key is $5 on eBay.
All OS are time sinks if you want to be able to configure and use them fully. Windows just drastically reduces the timesink by providing a centralized system configuration and management GUI in the form of compmgmt

try disabling BITS, superfetch, windows update(or atleast set to manual update), and double check your install man because quick boots times is like one of the few things windows gets right

You're just retarded for not saving in the first place. How much hand holding do you need your OS to do for you? If there had been a power outage you would be in the same boat.

I feel like the problem with Windows is it's QUITE not a casual OS for retards like OS X because you can do a lot to optimize it and because it does require basic maintenance, however you can't customize as deeply as linux, and since its usually used as enterprise software people don't want to spend time fiddling with it like a hobby OS, they want it to "just work"

...

macOS does not have this problem

>A legit pro key is $5 on eBay.
just because a key works doesn't mean it's legit. the $5 keys on ebay are ms image keys that aren't supposed to be resold, so you're breaking their license agreement just as much as if you'd just pirate it.

If this actually happened why not just tell the sys admin and have them schedule the updates properly with WSUS

a power outage isn't the fault of windows though. restarting without command or explicit consent is.

I have win10 pro and I already tried to get it to work well, but it still wouldn't do what I wanted it to. I've even disabled auto updates & related resource wasting processes but it doesn't help much. Now it lives on a separate hard drive and I run MS Office under wine with zero performance issues.
this argument is valid, but I'd argue the opposite. Some linux distros are indeed hobbyist distros (like arch or gentoo), but others work just fine in the enterprise and should be considered as viable replacements for windows. I have had zero issues with fedora, centos, debian, and suse. The only problem is that it takes a little bit of tinkering to get Microsoft's vendor lock in software running. Once we get MS Office flatpaks there will be zero reason for casual home users and many glorified secretaries to use windows

>not saving documents
Lol

i like to live on the edge

even though i use firefox ;)

>unsaved
*yawn*

This. I fucking HATE this.

You didnt save. I think they start teaching this stuff in like second grade

The Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.

>It was set to restart. If you didn't want that, you should have set it differently.
Except for when you turn off automatic restart, along with other Windows "features" like telemetry, and then a Windows update restores them all back to default without telling you.

>forgot to turn off computer before I went on holidays for three weeks
>still the same as I left

What's it like being so shit at configuring your computer?

>just read the manual bro
Might as well install gentoo

>he thinks multiple desktops are new
