here's the thing
bing is indexing tor-facing proxies through web services that aggregated and displayed the images in a page in an unsafe and completely careless way
eventually, some of them got shut down but there's multiple of the same services that were being bounced between each other, causing bing to index several images multiple times
actual serious stuff was probably caught via hash hits on their rather extensive database, but most of the softcore or even unknown pieces that were eventually indexed through it stuck for a good while, eventually it somehow also got access to the same pictures in tumblr blogs, causing them to index them and become much, much more visible to anyone that wasn't paying attention.
We're talking may of last year, the tumblr blog case was in october and the aftermath is tumblr dropping on its knees and literally banning porn because of that.
On top of that, 90% of the material that got indexed through the thumbnailing service is STILL THERE on the source, the thumbnailing services either got closed down or just stopped allowing those urls
The most hilarious thing is that nobody noticed anything by some magical sum of happenstances until literally 2 months ago

The whatsapp thing was more retarded desu, it was about apps that could be used to discover whatsapp groups that promoted those groups. Most of the article is some bullshit about whatsapp not doing enough even though it's encrypted and it's not being thrown at you or whatever.
