Win 7 has one year left to live. Then there will be no updates of any kind.
Win 10 now has larger usage percentage than Win 7 but this wasa achieved in 2018, some years after Win 10 was initially released. So we cant exactly say people have migrated fast away from Win 7. There was also Win 8 in between 7 and 10. Not many people were interested in 8.
Markets for new PC:s have been dropping for 7 years and it is not known exactly why people dont want to update their pc after every few years anymore.
It is now the hope of Microsoft that when support of Win 7 is ended, peple will buy computers which are Win 10 compatible. Therefore starting to use Win 10 in the process.
It is sad that recent troubles with Windows 10 updates have been making more people sceptical about the OS. Microsoft tries to make things better. All in all Win7 will be no longer safe to use so alternatives of Win10 are getting low on number.

The font rendering on that site is so atrocious I can't even read it

I broke the updates back when microbot was giving botnet10 for """'free"""". Still in stalling security updates manually. The updater says it's disabled in service. It is not. O and in the see more it says "go to (null) to see more"

I bought a used Windows 7 Thinkpad. I would gladly move to WIndows 10 if they offered it to me for free. I guess I can get it now for free but that includes some tricks and I am not going to be bothered with any of that.
it's bad in non mobile browsers though, I just checked
Evan Gomez
I've installed sp1 in 2012 and never updated again
Jason Morgan
They changed it again. No trickery required. Just install 10 and activate with your 7 key or just upgrade. They're that desperate.
Luke Wilson
will this be the year of the windows desktop?
Cameron Murphy
you can get the upgrade tool on their website and win10 will be automatically activated with your win7 key. or do it manually even. they've only disabled free upgrading for a short time.
Mason Russell
Fuck off idiot, the ms deleting files bug was not any user's fault
Liam Williams
>Win 7 has one year left to live. Then there will be no updates of any kind. Yeah, I've heard that before. XP was patched long after end of support. They have no choice, everything else they're doing is a failure. As long as 10 is beta at best, they will patch it, or else it would be Linux.
A ltsc iso further debloated with msmg toolkit is as good as windows 7, if not better.

If I was Microshafts I would have cut off support for Windows 7 years ago and pretended Windows 8 was just a dream. What a shitty life it must be having a retarded userbase that holds you back.
Grayson Barnes
Right. It's not that the company is incompetent and makes stupid mistakes, it's the users not accepting whatever shit they produce. Of course.
Hudson Barnes
I suspect that the recent update that broke stuff in 7 was a deliberate ploy to get people over to 10.
I fucked up please forgive me Jow Forums, before I kill myself please tell me where I went wrong. I can't even play resident evil 2 demo that came out because of this.
>keeping 7 "updated" after the forced updates that lead to 10
The fuck is wrong with you man? Use 7 until it dies and the drop Windows. Assuming they don't drop the Win10 SaaS model.
Andrew Gomez
I'm not saying I did the update myself , it was just a recent story. I'm mostly talking about normies that don't know any better. It's meant to scare them.
Jose Reyes
>it is not known exactly why people dont want to update their pc after every few years anymore It's known and pretty obvious too: They are good enough. The cellphone industry's running into this too (noticed how we went from replaceable batteries to sealed batteries?). The only thing you really need to change on a 5 year old computer is to put the OS on a SSD and you're good to go for probably another 5 years if you're an average user browsing websites and things like that. Now, if you're editing and rendering videos in 4k then that's another matter - but that's not something most people are doing.
It's not shocking if this is true. Why they don't just offer it for free to everyone already is beyond me. The start menu's got advertisements, it's a way to promote their Bing search engine and it spies and collects data on those who use it. It is quite frankly quite disgusting that they are getting away with charging anything at all for that garbage. A more "fair" or sensible approach would be to sell a Wintoddler PRO version with no advertisements and give away a free Home version (which is kind of what they already do except you get a "not activated" message).
Jack Morris
That's the stupid thing I've ever heard. >these people keep breaking stuff I use. I guess I'll try their other products!

im not using windows for years.. gnu/linux is fater bicuse it dosent consume all your machine ram against you.. It dosent auto update unless if you want to... It dosent log your input and send it to a third party server except ubuntu/amazone agreements.. It dosent fuck u as a user.. dont use microsoft products start to fuck theme up insted by not using that..
Benjamin Phillips
retards being people installing 10

>it is not known exactly why people dont want to update their pc after every few years anymore. 1. Normies switched to phones and tablets 2. in 2019, you can comfortably work on CPU from 10 years ago.
>Win 10 now has larger usage percentage than Win 7 but this wasa achieved in 2018 I feel like a lot of these are because of "upgrade to Windows 10" brought to Win 7/8 via updates.

Microsoft lies about the fact that 7 is old and broken to normalfags and claims constantly that 10 is the best thing since sliced bread and it's so fast and clean and bugfree. When your 7 starts to randomly break, and you don't know shit about tech, of course you're going for the shiny new lie, especially after 7 served you so well over the years.
Carter Morgan
And I'll keep using XP 64. Fuck microdick and fuck thier bloated as fuck OS.

Interesting choice, deffinitelly gonna consider it but in case they wont like it, any other options? they dont want arch tho
Henry Carter
Honestly, even without updates I doubt most consumers already on Windows 7 will upgrade right away until many 3rd party programs and products start dropping it. Corporate environments will continue to hold out as long as they can, and I have seen some invest a lot of money to DOWNGRADE to 7 vs going up to 8 or 10 in the past. They are going to squeeze at least another 5-9 years out of it before upgrading and have mixed OS environments between 7 and 10 and slowly migrate.
Semi off topic question: has ANYONE in the tech field seen a Windows 8 environment? Every place I have worked at was either XP or 7, 7 solely, or 7 and 10. 8 and 8.1 was pretty much poison to most corporate environments.
Jeremiah Mitchell
Arch is always a bad option because it breaks all the time, but in different ways with each update (literally playing roulette). Gentoo is rockstable once installed and while they won't be updating on their own without you setting up a cron job and a binhost for them, it will work for them forever once setup. No other OS can claim that to my knowledge. Ubuntu, for example, is a broken piece of shit where the graphical package manager doesn't even work (click 'install', it will grey out the button for 0.5 seconds while displaying a progress bar, then remove the progress bar, ungrey the button, and ask you to install again, never actually installing anything; the installer itself goes into infinite loops and crashes if you try to touch anything related to encryption, partitioning, or lvm; there's a 50% chance it won't boot after an install anyway; it is easily confused about boot method (efi or not); packages are now fragmented because of snaps; updates can easily break things - though that's usually the exception instead of the rule unlike in arch). Fedora is more of the same, though more stable and with a working package manager. However it's a poettering nightmare and thus not all that stable. I haven't touched opensuse in a long time because last time I checked they had devolved from a fantastic OS that added stability and feature-enhancing patches to common software, to a bug-ridden shitfest that adds buggy as all fuck custom patches to software that otherwise works correctly. The same roughly applies to all the mainstream distros.
Ryder Evans
Microsoft has already invested in gimping and blocking windows 7 downgrades and installs. For example, it's not possible to use it without hacks if you have a modern CPU. It's also not possible to use it if you only have usb3 ports and no inbuilt cd drive, because it can't read the files on a bootable usb through a usb3 port. There used to be images with usb3 drivers baked in, but microsoft killed them. Overall they've expanded a LOT of resources to try to prevent people from not using windows 10. It's so bad that I genuinely think the best option is to install linux and run windows 7 through qemu+kvm at boot with max resources and gpu passthrough instead of running windows on bare metal anymore for people want windows.
Angel Gray
>Oy vey stop using XP and give us your data goyim! The shills are here right on time.
Ayden Perez
well, of course it will. i work at a publishing house running win7 right now and is going to upgrade within the next few months. our head of it is a massive freetard and installs oss left and right, but since adobe refuses to bring the creative suite to gnu/linux, there is no alternative (macs are way too expensive).
Juan James

>Markets for new PC:s have been dropping for 7 years and it is not known exactly why people dont want to update their pc after every few years anymore. it's because there is no need to anymore. any computer post 2010 just does fine. also smartphones and tables made many setups redundand.

You're retarded. I installed W7 with a Ryzen 2700X just fine. Faggot retards like you think a PS2 keyboard is "hacking".
these people think that since their hp had issues that's the company to blame and they get a gateway or dell the next time, thinking that will fix the problems they were having.

I've had enough of hardware becoming obsolete because of shit programming and shit OSs.
Fuck that, cellphones are more powerful than PCs from 5 or 10 years ago and are complete garbage. PCs from 10 years ago are ridiculously more powerful than stuff from the 90s and are completely useless nowadays even for fucking basic office work, it's ridiculous.. F U C K T H A T
At this point my only hope is we hit a goddamn hard wall in hardware tech so programmers will have to get good again.
Austin Reed
That is exactly what Apple was doing with iPhone updates. They were deliberately slowing down older phones so people would buy a newer one.
Jaxson Murphy
Seriously? If there's any source I'd like to read it, because holy fuck I'm raging just at the thought.

>and it is not known exactly why people dont want to update their pc after every few years anymore. Because videogames on pc are not as demanging in terms of processing as they used to, since most "AAA" games basically are console ports. And said consoles are not very powerful.
Also no one cares really cares about 4k resolutions.
I jumped ship from Windows to a Fagbook Pro and Linux on my desktop. Great job being terrible, Windows.
Landon Perez
Debian stable. You'll have to set it up for them but once you do it Just Werks. I usually give them Xfce for that Windows Classic-style look.
Jacob Perez
Microsoft wants to charge an annual subscription to license their bloated os. Why anyone still uses windows outside of "Muh games" is a mystery to me.

Also valid. It tends to come broken, but once you fix stuff you'll never have to worry about your fixes breaking ever.

This is the endgame, just like Adobe. But years ago they promised businesses a decade of support so they have to run out the clock on 7 before they can force people into it. It shouldn't be hard for businesses since they're already used to paying for ongoing support contracts.
Actually I bet they'll go further, I bet five years from now there won't be any W10 long-term support branches. MS knows enterprises are the most locked-in to windows, because of custom software, the need to train their retarded users, and so on, so if MS puts its foot down and says "You're gonna get rolling-release windows and anything else is a completely unsupported configuration, which we'll tell to your auditor/regulator if they ask us", well, then, enterprises are gonna scream but they'll have no choice but to go along.
Jackson Davis
Found a free spare old computer that I've been toying with linux on some. I put xubuntu in it. Guess it'll help me with the inevitable transition? Then again since it's old I can't really do much testing in the way of game support.

Here's a better idea, I'll just keep windows update turned off and not risk MS breaking my system. I have better defense against russians and malware than MS personally compromising my system and destroying it for personal gain.
