Here's my opinion on the HD 600 vs DT 880.

I used the DT 880 from 2013 to 2016. Then I bought the HD 600, which I've been using since then. Both headphones have been used for three years.

I loved the HD 600 since the first hearing. I think the HD 600 are better in every aspect: comfort, bass, mids and treble. I don't think the HD 600 are veiled at all, but the DT 880 are bright and a bit harsh.

I won't say the DT 880 bad, since these are 120€ cheaper than the HD 600. But I would recommend to expend a little more and buy the HD 600.

Before calling me a "shill"... At least I actually own the headphones I'm talking about. I can't believe so many people argue about headphones they didn't even hear once.

Yes, I've been telling /hpg/ for years that the HD600/HD650 are the most durable of the oldschool trio family of headphones that are recommended here: DT880/K701/HD600 variants. DT880's gimbals wear out eventually. Same thing happened to mine, but it's still usable. And the plastic slider on the K701 wears cracks too, it's also still usable. Meanwhile the only visible thing that's worn on my HD600 are the pads.

Although I love my HD 600, I did hear the HD 6XX and I didn't like them. The HD 6XX (and, therefore, the HD 650) felt a bit veiled to me.

Yup yup, K701 are unlistenable on many modern music genres. The 2khz peak gives them a character not dissimilar to Grado, just less bad. The lack of bass contributes too.

can you comment on the soundstage of the k701 vs an older lambda? I mentioned to an user here that my friend noticed his modern one had a much larger soundstage

Well, I picked the 650 out of the two when I wanted to experience midfi Sennshit because I had heard about the 600 being utterly bassless which is a dealbreaker for me. The unfortunate thing is that the HD650 is also bassless. Even with the slight more treble the 600 would have, there is absolutely no way whatsoever that I would ever consider listening to either headphones. Ultimately the biggest value in owning a 6 series and listening to it every once in a while before packing it back in the box out of disgust is to have a reference to know who's full of shit and who's not, as every single person reviewing headphones in this world makes comparisons to those headphones and those who talk favorably of them I am sure to ignore their opinions on future purchases.

HD600 has a preference rating of 92, this makes it objectively the greatest headphone in the universe.

This. I bought a 6XX blind and holy shit it is unexaggerated mud. The imaging is just not there and the soundstage being closedback tier doesn’t help at all. And it still wows me how such a lower mids oriented headphone can suck so much cock at subbass. It just sounds so fucking weird. The 6 series is definitely not Sennheiser’s strong suit.

It has far superior build and no muddy bass. Very comfortable and guaranteed to last for a long time with portable use.

What's a good bitrate for opus?
Trying out 128kbps and I literally can't tell which is which in ABX. Not even memeing here and I've got a pretty decent setup too.
Could probably go down to 96kbps and be more than fine for car and earbud playback.
