For me its
>Some shitty A6
>i5 3340
>i3-4130T in a steam machine
>i5 6400

My most fond memories were with the i3-4130T could do everything i wanted with seemingly less stutter than the 6400.

first some shitty intel laptop CPU
then an AMD Phenom II 1090T
now (actual) Ryzen 7 1800x (waiting to upgrade)

>Thinkpad E545 with A10 5750 apu
>Dell E6520 i7 2630qm maxed out

I also have a Latitude D630, Thinkpad T30 and another C610 for the racecar I'm building, muh serial ports.

I had a few computers before I first built one, but I don't remember what the CPUs were. I know I had a Pentium 3 at one point, but that's all I remember prior to my AMD Athlon 64 3200+.

I went:
>Athlon 64 3200+
>Athlon X2 4200+
>Athlon X4 640
>i5 4690k
>i7 4790k
>Threadripper 2950x

Bought lots of second hand PC's from 1995 to 2005, so multiple 286's, 486's, and lots of Pentiums 1 to 4. Then some Athlon X2, a Core 2 Duo E8400, Athlon X4, Core i3, and now a Core i7 Haswell. Next will be a Zen 2.

why does it matter and why does anyone care

erm, maybe a dx2 66
but then a p90
and then a p2 266 i think
then like a p3 500 or something
and then an athlon 1800+ i think
it gets hazy after that maybe a 2400 athlon
then I got a Q9450 i think
then i stopped buying pcs and do it through company so have lotsa stuff i can't even remember now, maybe a i7-7700k i dont event know the cpu numbers anymore

>i7-6700K (got a couple days after Ryzen launch, I told myself I needed Thunderbolt and more PCIe lanes)
>Ryzen 1700 (i7 motherboard died, bought with Amazon refund)
I used the Q9400 for 9 years (since I was 9 to when I turned 18), that PC was a piece of shit even for a kid, but looking back I think I think there was something wrong with the RAM or the motherboard, or both. I definitely learned a lot using that PC, I started using Linux and also macOS, it worked pretty well as an Hackintosh. Too bad it's a preassembled with a proprietary motherboard, I'd have tried changing it

>Sempron 2600+
This one was a gift for me, i gave the specs to my brother for him to build it for me, but instead of buying a 2.6Ghz Athlon he bought a Sempron 2600+. I was mad.
From now on i've built them myself with my own money.
>Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Pretty good
>Athlon II X3 435
Got this one to unlock the 4th core, worked nicely
>Phenom II X4 940BE
Got it used as an upgrade to the Athlon, finally got decent performance for PS2 emulation
>I5 4670K
THE upgrade, this was my first high-end build, got it a few months after the 4670K was out, there was nothing it couldn't do however i wasn't lucky on the silicon lottery and only got it to 4.0GHz
>R7 2700X
Ordered and should arrive next week, while i sell the 4670K

The first cpu I bought with my own money was a i7-950 when I was 12. Still very usable. Gonna upgrade soon though.

This has to be one of the most retarded ""upgrade"" histories ever posted. Honestly. I skim past most of these idiots, but, for this one, I actually had to leave a comment. Holy shit.

how much better is the i5 than the e2-1800? i still use my e2 for work when i'm not at my desktop

like night and day for me. i gave my e2 laptop to my dad and it throttles like crazy even when there's nothing going on. cpu utilization is about 90% when browsing web on linux mint and maxed out on windows 10 (or any other windows). i installed ssd in that thing but it didn't help much. i'd upgrade if i were you.

Athlon X2 was a workhorse. Favorite chip.
