All of the coreutils (aka userland) are FreeBSD version, it’s free as in freedom software so just check it out. Either look at the source code (which can be found at dev.apple.com) or take a look at Darwin distributions such as OpenDarwin.
You’re missing the point of a micro kernel, it’s supposed to be modular and not a monolith with built in drivers. Write your own kernel extensions and it will work fine.

Uh. But I install whatever I want on my macbook, even before I dumped macOS for Ubuntu exclusively. If it's not in a homebrew repo, you can build the software from source. Where did this "you can't install anything" fallacy come from? Is it because the iPhone restricts what you can and can't install without voiding the warranty?
