Menlo is awesome for terminal use

Reminder: If you keep antialiasing on, all your fonts devolve into a blurry mess anyway, so it doesn't even matter which ones you choose.

>They dont give you much choice do they anymore.
No. Windows 10 has a mix of Segoe UI, Tahoma, and MS Sans Serif in its interface on a fresh installation. It also doesn't respect font smoothing settings so ClearType is enabled in some places even if you disable it.

name a better font

How do I change fonts on oneechan? When I try to load fonts nothing works, so I have to use the default ones. Would love some help

yeahhhh
what I want is that Grayscale antialiasing like the adobe products and android uses
but they dont fucking have that at all in windows and ive never found any third party software to replace cleartype with it either
> I also want full screen CRT shaders that are always in operation even on the desktop, but nobody makes that either

Win10 doesnt let you change fonts at all unless you use a util or hack it.
Neither does 8.1 which is what I use.

its a rounded plain sans serif piece of shit like all the others.
I dont really like sans serif all that much for anything. It lacks character, has no soul, or strength. Pic related is better.

Attached: 4030728748_5ff76868bd.jpg (500x421, 94K)

>what I want is that Grayscale antialiasing like the adobe products and android uses
"Modern" Windows "apps" use grayscale AA because they're designed for tablets that can rotate and therefore don't guarantee RGB pixel layout. In Windows 7 there was MacType where you could apply grayscale AA to the entire OS and it actually respected that but the software refuses to run on Windows 10. You can still turn AA off completely but a lot of fonts look like shit that way so the compromise is just to turn AA on but ClearType off and deal with the forced ClearType in a few areas of the OS.
>full screen CRT shaders that are always in operation even on the desktop
One day there will be "gaming" Micro LED monitors that do this, complete with black frame insertion and hardware-level shaders.

but TOday somebody COULD make that from the software side, and nobody does it

Because CRT shaders on today's flatscreen monitors are shit. Why spend the effort to not reach the goal?

Fira Sans, Noto Sans, DejaVu Sans... I don't care much anymore. I stopped being such a fontfag when I stopped ricing

font name?

the higher the resolution goes and the more you've got the easier it will be
> native 640x480 on a 4K screen provides all sorts of legroom for

thanks for the MacType recommendation, I dont know how I missed that after all these years.
I can say it works on Win8.1 but for some reason it does Not work in my browser (Opera). Works for all the UI in the browser but nothing in the window itself.
And just tested it in MS Word and it works Fabulously.

I owe you alot for this.
> and at the same time not so much, as I cant cling to 8.1 forever, its like frodo on mt.doom as the lava approaches

>Times New Roman

Attached: daffy_duck.jpg (719x719, 62K)

Yeah. I remember the CRT preset in MacType looking real nice on my trinitron monitor, in fact it was one of the many reasons I refused to leave 2008R2. In the end I had to install 2016 over it and as I said I'm stuck with shitty inconsistent font rendering again.

I use Terminus for everything except for my web browser.

You'll still get motion blur and shit contrast ratios and backlight bleed that are an inherent physical defect of the monitor.

Recently I've been using Baskerville and Fredrick Brennans's vector resolution KJV1611 font.

my recommendation is Freight Text

Such an ugly and sterile font. It might as well be Sans Serif.

>stormfrump
I don't know what that is. Yeah, the KJV1611 is a nice font but I wouldn't typeset an entire document in it.

Baskerville typeset a Bible in his typeface and it looked quite nice though.
Kudos to groff for showing me the font.

Monospace: Terminus
Everything else: Liberation
Noto to cover everything Liberation doesn't.

its windows, so its either tahoma, ms sans, arial, or verdana

Fonts is one of the few things Macs do right. Hell even Linux has better font rendering than Windows. At least 2008R2 and 7 had MacType, with 10 it went to shit.

Wtf happend with “d”?

Best mono spaced equivalent to times New Roman

>At least 2008R2 and 7 had MacType, with 10 it went to shit.
Mactype is just a poorly integrated version of Freetype anyway, with bad presets, settings, and no ability to do precise per-font adjustments. I was always curious why they called it Mactype when it doesn't really look like Mac at all - even when you put on a heavy weighting to emulate Mac's stem darkening it looks nothing like it. BTW Freetype has stem darkening as a runtime option and it looks pretty close to what Macfags get.

But honestly I'm not a big fan of the way Mac fonts look, they're far too heavy due to the stem darkening and they look incredibly poor at lower font sizes especially. I prefer Freetype on Linux with slight hinting and rgb aa. It uses the Adobe hinting engine which looks pretty great, although you have to properly alias some fonts. Looks best with the Liberation set.

This is still a Linux thread, get out wintoddler

its broken i think

it's not about the fonts, it's about freetype
overall liberation is the best

ooh you're asking about windowz - windowz fonts suck - they are phat and ugly and hard to read, dunno if it's the font [arial] or the thing that displays it

there i fixed ur fonts

try and connect a ~100dpi monitor to your macbook, it will look like absolute garbage. they have shit font-rendering saved by their high dpi monitors.

Wow it's almost as if an OS designed for high dpi monitors has font rendering optimized for them.

fonts will look good on any system with high dpi, in fact it requires less optimization

Install terminus

It's the same as DejaVu Mono with different zero FYI

don't care, everything looks like crap on my 768p laptop screen

Not anymore.
Mojave fucked up the font rendering and removed subpixel rendering from the system. The terminal hack to recover subpixel rendering is still a hack and will probably be removed.

Nope. Stem darkening is designed to be used with gamma correction to improvement legibility at small sizes and doesn't look like OS X.
Try it with ftview and enable darkening using FREETYPE_PROPERTIES

I just pirated an ISO of windows XP, and took the font file, and use librewriter.
meanwhile my friend using google docs to write his thesis, and after he finish is he'd use his dad's laptop to change the font.

Maybe he shouldn't have wrongly incarcerated and tortured an innocent man.

that man was rightfully convicted for robbing four banks, and also Adamowicz had nothing to do with that - he was just the mayor of the city, with no power over the courts of law who delivered the judgement. He should have laid his vengeance on them, if anything. Adamowicz also wasn't even a member of Platforma Obywatelska since 2018

Weird way to spell "bad", but iosevka is borderline unreadable.
I used it as a terminal font since its so popular and I though it was corrupted or something because it couldn't possibly look so bad.
