The Jow Forumsanitard got spanked and is in the thralls of a tantrum posting almost random threads. Taking advantage of that, what do you think of Social Systems Technology?
Josiah Thompson
I think the promotion of "Rational Egoism" is a slight of hand maneuver to distract shallow people from the realization of what they would actually be doing if they were well-formed adults - Multi-Objective Optimization. That is, well-formed adults tend to optimize health, hygiene, and happiness (Truth, Beauty, and Goodness) for self, other, and the environment. "Rational Egoism" directs the attention to self while obscuring the other objectives behind an either/or, one-or-the-other assumption. I suspect this is done semi-intentionally to make the corporate "Economic Externality" more palatable and generally acceptable.
Ethan Howard
In a competitive environment, selfishness is a survival requirement. How much influence did the RAND Corporation have on the US economic situation? Military strategy is developed for a entirely competitive situation. If the models and methods that underlie the development of military strategy are used to develop an economic system... What a blunder.

If it isn't a competitive environment, there needs to be an other mechanism to promote some traits/behaviors while demoting other traits/behaviors. Are you/we/they going to reinvent or supplant Evolution?

What is this nonsense. None of this conflicts with rational selfishness. But it is even more strange that you chose these as you primary "virtues".
I'll not argue more here because I suspect you're a postmodernist/subjectivist anyways.
Jason Edwards
Selfishness and altruism are often presented as a dichotomy. That isn't necessary; it is possible, and common, to optimize for both objectives (self and other).
>big pictures in simple posts
Truth, Beauty, and Goodness are fundamental categories in philosophy.

>Selfishness and altruism are often presented as a dichotomy.
That's because they are: "altruism. 1: unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others" Which is the definition Rand uses. But of course, one can be both selfish and charitable/generous etc.
>Truth, Beauty, and Goodness are fundamental categories in philosophy.
Yes but what is the "health, hygiene, and happiness" stuff about?
Ethan James
>big pictures in simple posts
Multi-Objective Optimization (Truth, Beauty, and Goodness)
{health, hygiene, and happiness} {self, other, and the environment} {now, later, and future}
