Founder Curtis Yarvin aka Moldbug has left the Urbit co. Tlon

He says his work is done. It's now a question of polishing it. Do you think Urbit stands a chance? Also, thoughts on Urbit vs. Tim Berners Lee's Solid vs. other things?

urbit.org/posts/essays/a-founders-farewell/
urbit.org/primer explains what Urbit is (sort of).

wtf is urbit

>Your Urbit is a personal cloud server. A simple, private, general-purpose virtual computer on an encrypted P2P network.
Basically, it's a virtual machine with built-in peer-to-peer networking and user accounts. It lets you write and run peer-to-peer applications ignoring the old 1970s UNIX cruft. The intention is to replace social networks like Facebook, chat like IRC, email, etc. with something that's P2P with user-owned data.

>wtf
Urbit is the last platform. The personal-computing revolution hasn’t even happened

yet.

Urbit is.. a revoluti0n

Urbit is taking

1920 x 1080

and fitting in

7 word s per page.

Urbut is

reddit spacing on fucking crack.
Urbit is potentially interesting, but waaaay too fucking annoying to wade through and life is too short for this shit, so, thats that.

Weird, it looks better in my browser. If you can't take it maybe read media.urbit.org/whitepaper.pdf.

yeah, ok, done, will read, cheers.
and no, that layouts a tiny bit annoying, for real.

That's Sir Tim Berners-Lee to you.

I took away the exact same thing. It makes you wonder if the people involved are borderline schizophrenic.

>blockchain and increasing centralization of the internet

dropped. crypto goes to

Not a cryptocurrency.

>World-wide mad deadly COMMUNIST GANGSTER COMPUTER GOD
fucking awesome

the creator is an alt-right Nazi
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Yarvin
>Yarvin's opinions have been described as racist, with his writings interpreted as supportive of slavery, including the belief that whites have higher IQs than blacks

>In the book Alt-Right: From Jow Forums to the White House, Mike Wendling called Yarvin "the Alt right’s favorite philosophy instructor."
>Alt-Right: From Jow Forums to the White House
>Jow Forums

>including the belief that whites have higher IQs than blacks
stretching it some to call that Nazi, but, congrats on turning the thread into a shitfest, well played

It's true tho. I will never understand why it's racist to say that whites are smarter than blacks but not racist to say blacks are faster than whites

If you want to get you shit adopted you should at least:
- clearly explain what it does
- make it easy to use.

Urbit does neither of those things. Makes me wonder if it's just a very elaborate joke or just a case of autismus maximus.

What's your take, pol?

>He argues for a “neo-cameralist” philosophy based on Frederick the Great of Prussia’s “cameralist” administrative mode.[13] In Yarvin's view, inefficient, wasteful Democratic governments should be replaced by sovereign joint-stock corporations whose shareholders, all property owners, elect an executive with plenary authority.
>Yarvin lives in San Francisco with his wife Jenn Kollmer and their two children.
>American monarchists
>American people of Jewish descent
Jewish pro-market monarchist and married with children. Doesn't sound like alt-right or a neo-Nazi to me.

Urbit is everything wrong with literally every single part of its composition. It's a magical feat of retardation. It's what happens when cancer is allowed to proliferate to the extreme.

NRx =/= alt-right or national socialism. If you bothered to read anything he's written you would find he directly opposes both, but of course you aren't interested in that and just wish to slander him.

Ok, it's definitely autism.

He's one of those high-iq-jew-techno-nerd libertarians. (Strongest possible autism.)

Kind of? Moldbug has written a 5000 word essay about why he is not a libertarian, though that is like a tweet to him.

opinions disregarded

His overall beliefs are schizophrenic nonsense but he has a couple cool ideas. The cathedral-state dynamic being among them. Makes some legitimate criticisms of democracy.

It's way too similar to the IBM guy rants. What if skizos are somewhat right? Why do they always end about big government conspiracies?

Your browser is fucked, pal.

There's almost always a kernel of truth in the ranting of schizos... they're just too disconnected to express it properly.

>His overall beliefs are schizophrenic nonsense but [his #1 main most important idea is right]
Man, even on 4channel people can't admit they agree with Moldbug without the "I know he is a lunatic, but..." song and dance.

That picture is so right it hurts

soiboi is out, TERRORIZED GANGSTER FRANKENSTEIN EARPHONE RADIO SLAVE is in.

From what I understood from that clusterfuck of confusing four-letter onion-tastic names for every little thing, the VM is a barebones state machine interpreter for an esoteric language, with a few local services. I have a hard time imagining how you can make something even remotely complex and performance-heavy with this. And I'm utterly confused as to where the processing power in the "cloud" to run the VMs comes from if we're denying "megacorps" so hard.

Maybe you should read his blog before talking bullshit, you'd be surprised. Instead of letting people describe his opinions for you, go read them.

>you're using the internet as a modem

As a guy who teaches networking, I'm fucking appalled.
>you're using the ocean as a drinking straw
Nigga what?
